You will learn to hate the Core,
And everything it represented.
Your hopes...
Your dreams...
Your futures...
All shattered when reality reared its ugly head.

Some of you were changed by the Core. Most of you were not. Then envy struck, and many were slain by the hand of Man. The rest were thrown to the beasts.

But then...
Who are the beasts?

Wha?

I don't even know what's happening. One minute there's one thing then it gets swapped out for another thing and so on and so forth. So is this a sign that Return to Cradle: Origins is dead? Or just postponed.

@Travid

Return to Cradle: Origins is pretty much done. This fanfic takes place more or less in an alternate universe not unlike that in Finder's Keepers.

Okay...

If that's the case then I'll join. Eventually. I'm just not feeling it, the fanfic flow. I'll get it back. Just wait.

Dangit.

I have to make the app all over again. ;_;

Name; Blue
Gender: Female
Species; Frostifur
Life Stage: Unknown. Assumed to be child or adolescent.
Age: Unknown. (Young)
Appearance: A smaller frostifur, with completely white fur, and a light blue stripe across her back. Also wears a chewed up coolar with illedgible writing. Presumed to be her name.
Bio:(This may not fit in with your story, so please bend it to fit if you need to.) Born as a pup with several brothers and sisters, she lived a normal few days. Unfortunately, knights came and slaughtered her family. She escaped by doing what she did best: Hiding behind something powerful. She befriended a rouge lumber construct. It lasted a few seconds against the knights. While it died, she was able to escape. Although Blue liked that construct, she would do anything, ANYTHING to survive. Even sacrifice a close friend. Ever since, she has enjoyed herself by maddening knights throughout the clockworks. She made intricate traps to square the living hell out of them. She is curious of the knights, even though they murdered her family. Once, she was caught by a knight, and treated as a pet. He put a collar on her. She still escaped. Rumors of this rogue frostifur have been in Haven, once. hunts to find her, but no finding happened. Eventually, she was all but forgotten, but still there.
Personality: As a beast, It may not be safe to say she is intelligent enough to have a personality. Playful, mischievious. Loves playing tricks.
Desired role: Don't really care. Make her like a sidekick, or something minor. :P
Expendibility: Anytime. Just make it emotional, and preferably at the hands of a gremlin/rouge knight.
Arsenal/Abilites: Scratch. Bite. Burrow. I think each is explanatory. She isn't strong. At all. Probably wouldnt hurt anyone. :P She is also very fast.

Appy!

Name: Tay (Frator, read further on)

Species: Knight

Gender: Male

Life stage: young adult

Age: 20

Appearance: Deep understanding brown eyes, calm face, Personal colour: White, Tall, Short black hair.

Biography: Once a great knight in combat, he gained much respect in Spiral HQ. He was loyal until he was on a what was supposed to be 'mission' but was secretly ambushed by Spiral HQ them selves. He was experimented on to create a perfect result with unlimited magic capabilities but only failed to recieve a normal knight with a few faulty magic capabilities. Every year at an unexpected time he has a spasm and a few more side effects, like temporary blindness and nausea. However with this toll he is able to control the elements (water, fire, earth and air) although these skills are faulty and may sometimes not work as well. Frator (his original name) eventually managed to escape the lab. He hid and changed his name to Tay. He finally took a course as a doctor and now fully understands emergency first aid and the full anatomy of the knights body. He still prefers combat and is still exceptional with a sword.

Personality: A quiet chap who speaks up in the important moments to discuss his own ideas. Although seemingly quiet he will talk to the trusted quite willingly. He is sometimes panicky in the most needed moments of his powers and his powers will immediately diminish. He will take the burden from his friends and defend them from others. He will help in cases of damage (his first aid skills). Tay is kind to the trusted but if betrayed he will be extremely angry and will try to kill the character. (He can also cook well!) He takes his powers like it's a burden.

Desired role: supporting

Expendability: If he dies let him die in a noble way, defending the group and let him be one of the last few.

Arsenal/Abilities: Grey feather mantle set. He uses it to help focus his power. Divine avenger. Volt edge. Argent peacemaker. Grey owlite shield. Faulty magic to control the elements.

Modified app for Tay/Frator

Name: Frator

Species: Knight

Gender: male

Life stage: young adult

Age: 20

Appearance: piercing, empathetic brown eyes; kind, tempered face; light skin; tall height; cropped black hair

Biography: When the Core blew open, Frator was one of the few knights whose genes allowed him to absorb and utilize the immense energies released. He discovered that he had the ability to bend spacetime to his will, using techniques now known as "weaving," and became proficient in the practice. He was a powerful and highly-respected Vanguard of the Spiral Order until members of the Pureblood movement (Knights who have rejected the weavers as inhuman) kidnapped him to analyze his genes and determine his strengths and weaknesses. However, the processes they used to analyze him destroyed parts of his genetic code, rendering him weaker than when they found him. He somehow managed to escape, and once he had lost his captors, he joined a doctors' guild and trained to become a Spiral Medical Officer. He still prefers to get into the thick of the action, but he can operate in his capacity as medic when the situation calls for it.

Personality: He is very reserved and shy around strangers, speaking to unfamiliar people only when he has something important to say, and speaking thoughtfully to those he trusts and knows well. He doesn't take stress very well and tends to panic when pressured to make a quick decision. However, when he is allowed to battle in a peaceful state of mind, he becomes defensive of those under his care.

He tends to retreat into antisocial behaviors when his trust is betrayed, ranging from simply clamming up to entering a murderous rage. He is a superior chef, having practiced the art during his time in the doctors' guild since they were unable to hire a dedicated chef.

Arsenal/Abilities: Grey Feather set, Divine Avenger, Voltedge, Argent Peacemaker, Grey Owlite Shield, basic elemental weaving skills
__________

@Dewca, I have a few questions for you.
1. How do you pronounce Frator? (fray'-tore) (freighter) (frah-torr') I'm thinking of re-spelling it, or changing it entirely.
2. Tay feels like an awkward name. Is there any particular reason why you had him change to it?

---

Name: Carter.

Species: Isoran.

Gender: Male.

Life Stage: Young Adult.

Age: 25

Visual Description:
- Long black hair, black eyes (eyes seem tired/bored)
- Body looks thin, but knows how to pack a punch
- Slouches slight when walking, usually has hands in pockets
- Stares at the ground while walking in a familiar area, with a face that makes others think he's thinking about something
- Personal Color: Dark Blue

Habits:
- When in a new area, will take one very long look, spotting any detail (usually doesn't pay attention to anyone speaking while doing so)
- Sits down a lot, usually getting distracted by following something with his eyes (a bug crawling on the ground)
- Pokes things. (someone who's being stiff with him, previously mentioned bug, etc.)
- When walking and talking, won't make eye contact with the person
- Takes note of things he sees others doing, and remembers them (remembers if someone likes/hates something, remembers something odd he saw on the floor)
- Will unknowingly make a barrier from females (blocks them out of view with another person)
- Concerned for squad mates that come along with him, but doesn't show it.
- Will sit on top of a building, rather than in an alleyway, to spy on something.

Bio: Carter grew up in a normal family, going to a public school. After the first few years, it was obvious that he was one of the smartest there. He had earned respect from the instructors, but he was one that was picked on during the earlier grades. By the time his years of school were over, Carter had taken an interest in fighting. After finishing, he moved out of his parents' house and got into training for Spiral HQ.

During the training courses, he developed some hobbies. He took an interest in physics, and tried putting it to use by messing around in the small space his apartment gave him. He eventually learned how to free run (which he usually didn't do as it attracted attention to him) when he went outside to try.

After several weeks developing the skills needed to become a knight, Carter became a knight of the Spiral Order, though they weren't sure if his way of dealing with the enemy would work. He grew to be one of the best there, although few knew that, as he usually ventured alone.

Personality:
- Intelligent, has much sense and reasoning. Knows when to stop.
- Introverted, prefers to handle things alone - Especially has trouble communicating with females
- Has a sharp tongue
- Will place other's lives in front of his, which surprises them often
- Will usually notice something important, but won't interrupt someone else talking
- Tends to stay away from other knights, but makes friends with AI or animals
- Prefers not to sneak attack and will acknowledge the enemy as an opponent
- Makes gestures instead of speaking sometimes, if it still gets the message through (nods instead of saying yes)

Desired Role: Assuming "role" refers to role in battle, Main. If referring to importance of a character, then do what you want.

Expendability: Don't really care if he dies or not, but if he does, he takes the killer with him, or at least severely injures the killer.

Equipment:
- A blackened Solid Cobalt Helm and Vitasuit Deluxe, both modified to resist more of a beating (usually takes off helmet). They have the stats of a 3.5* helmet and 4.5* armor.
- Gran Faust, doesn't use shield alongside it.
- Has a pouch with a few items that can occupy him when he's bored (a deck of cards, etc.) as well as a few items of small use (a pocket umbrella)
- Casual Clothing: Gray collared shirt, Black jeans.

Fighting:
- Wields sword one-handed, sacrificed shield for movement.
- Attacks with both the sword and physical attacks (kicks, elbows, etc.), can chain attacks together to hit multiple times in a few seconds, powerful opponent at close range - Will kick as often as his uses his sword.
- Reaction time allows him to even deflect bullets if he gets lucky, but is much more vulnerable against some attacks due to having no shield (explosions)
- Does everything in his power to confuse his opponent, and maintain momentum. Frequently uses spinning attacks, and at least tries to jump around, over, and under his opponent.
- Info from Post 94:
"Carter blocked a couple shots with the flat of his sword and ducked behind a building."

Continuing from that particular situation, I think he'd climb to the top of the building, jump off and land NEAR Taric, roll around, and try to attack then.

My intention for his style of fighting was to be constantly misleading his opponent(s). Faking charging at them, dropping down on the floor last second to try to hit an opponent from below, jumping up against a wall and using the recoil to lunge, etc.

- Earlier in this post, I say he does not like sneak attacking. I'm pretty sure that when someone knows you're there, any form of attack is no longer counted as a sneak attack. Jumping from above to attack wouldn't be a sneak attack.

Edit: Application, specifically the fighting part of it, has been edited. Seems the different format I did takes up a lot of space. Might edit a bit more later to see if I can make things even clearer, just in case. :D

@Playerman

While reading your character, I'm imagining Spike Spiegel from "Cowboy Bebop." Thing is, altruistic protectiveness of other knights doesn't seem to fit well with the character. I'm expected to believe that he tries to stay away from knights whenever possible, avoids girls to the best of his ability, and is an introvert, but as soon as he's responsible for them, he throws all that away to become mama bear? Either it won't work, or I'm missing a critical piece of him that helps it make sense.

Also, his "rage mode" isn't quite accurate to his personality. He kinda resembles me, in that he is introverted and rational, but when I get angry, I do get shaky from excitement, but I don't go berserk. Rationally-minded people tend to throw insults when they are enraged.

Having no shield actually has more detriments than you've described. My combat system relies rather heavily on the presence of a shield, and its absence renders the entity highly vulnerable. I recommend giving him a Swiftstrike Buckler or something.

Finally, for story and balance reasons, his speed and physical strength must be sacrificed for the sake of his greater intelligence. He will have to rely more on superior tactics than brute force to win in battle. Besides, it's more in character for him if he's more tactical.

Aside from the issues noted above, Carter will make an interesting addition to the story. I haven't yet decided which faction he is on.

Hey Thin!

Application!
____________________________

Name: Topoyozada. (Was going for Carter, but was taken.)

Age: 25

Species: Isoran/Test subject.

Life stage: Young Adult.

Gender: Male.

Appearance: Blue eyes, black hair, average height, wears a T-Shirt that says, "Cobalt FTW!" when out of armour, black pants.

Biography: When Topo was a boy (8 years old.), his parents were killed by a mercenary. (Reason unknown.) Topo stayed by his parent's body for 4 days, before he fainted from dehydration and hunger. When he woke, he was inside a lab. The scientist did tests on him, and inserted certain hormones, that would trigger when he was mad. It works somewhat like an adrenaline shot, but it lasts longer, and makes him turns into a Wolver.

When he was 15, he was sent into Haven to see how he would cope with the knights. He, surprisingly, was friendly, and loves jokes. He's a real chatterbox, and loves to make friends. He made a friend, called Alfred, and they had a few adventures. Clockworks runs, LD games. But one day, he revealed his secret. He was a test subject in the lab. The Spiral Order killed Alfred, and that made Topo mad. Real mad. He raged on them, and transformed into a Alpha Wolver, taking down a few scientists before he was subdued. After a few more years of training, the Spiral Order let him out again. But this time, he was sullen. He didn't make any friends, until he met...... (insert character here.)

Personailty: A chatterbox, friendly, and loves jokes. Speaks casually, but speaks like military when in battle. A little aloof. Is very keen to make friends. Doesn't get mad easily, but when he does..... *IT'S WOLVER TIME!* Has a sad, wistful smile.

Arsenal: Cobalt 4*. Double Valiances. No shield. No magic.

Desired role: Of course, the main. (Pwease Thin?)

@Thinslayer

I suppose some of your points make sense. :3

I guess I didn't explain the "protective" thing well. Carter's the kind of person who'd do his own thing alone, but check over his shoulder every now and then to see if someone's in trouble. If they're just cleaning things up, he'll leave it. If they're having trouble, he'll jump in and wipe everything out. He has a phobia of coming back without his teammates, and being completely rejected by society because of that, which I'll admit I did not mention. That's kinda why he solos.

MAYBE "too personal" was an understatement? I guess? In Carter's eyes, there's a few people that deserve to suffer. Not many, but some. Close friend gets slaughtered, someone attempting to torture him, something like that. I suppose you could nerf his rage mode, or remove it from him completely and just keep it to Topo up there or something, but I would like having a rage.

For combat, I was kind of going for the glass cannon kind of fighter, having superior attack strength and speed, but having no shield would still leave him open, making it so he wouldn't exactly be able to wipe out crowds without a few injuries. I kind of thought this would make him more reliant on him teammates, and so maybe he'd want to party up more later on. If you really want a shield for him, then go ahead and add a Swifty.

Make him flip around opponents and whack the weak points then? I liked my idea better, but I suppose tactics would make more sense for him.

I'm sure this doesn't cover up everything, but this is what was going on in my mind.

@Topoyozariane

Don't be stealing Carter! Ya took his name and his rage mode! :c His personality makes me think of John, or Adam.

Re: Apps

Re: Frator: I like "Taric" better. Taric is now one of the main characters!
Re: Carter: Likely to become a main char in the Pureblood faction. Not sure yet.
Re: Topoyozada: Not likely to be used as a main, on grounds of redundancy.

Topo needs to be a more unique character. His lab origins feel rather forced, and I don't like to have more than one character take root in a lab. Rage mode is unnecessary, since adrenaline rushes are natural.

Chapter 1: Escape!

Taric's heart pounded as he raced down the alley. Scrap, dead end! He darted behind a barrel and waited with baited breath. Ten Spiral Justifiers came into view, led by a man in a Vitasuit. The man stopped, listened, and directed two Justifiers to search in each direction. He took the extra pair with himself, slipped his hands in his pockets, and wandered in Taric's direction.

Taric quietly reached for his Peacemaker.

There was a sound like thunder, and the Vitasuit man quickly moved away. Taric cautiously made his way to the corner and peeked around. There was a dark, slim figure standing not far away, with the Vitasuit man and his Justifiers kneeling in front of it. Must be a bigshot of some kind. It seemed to snarl at the man, who in turn began to plead with quivering voice about something. The figure slapped him across the cheek, and a droplet of blood splattered landed in front of Taric on the pavement.

He suddenly got the feeling that he was being watched. The figure slowly approached his position, and strange voices began to arise in his head. He retreated from the corner and tried to flee, only to bump into a Justifier. He nearly shrieked, but the Justifier planted a hand over his mouth and dragged him behind a doorway. He whispered, "Don't make a sound. She know's you're here." Taric nodded, and the man released his mouth. Taric whispered back, "Who's she?"

"She's the-" he stopped when the figure came back into view. It was looking straight at them. The Justifier whipped out his Callahan and fired at the figure. "RUN!!" he screamed to Taric. A large thorn tore through the Justifier and impaled him. He needed no further convincing; Taric darted away down the alley, narrowly missing a hot fireblast behind him.

What IS that thing?

Mob Justice

"KILL! KILL! KILL! KILL! KILL THE WEAVER!!"

A young girl, seemingly about 16 years of age, was thrown into the arena. She winced as she stood up and watched in horror as the mighty Vog Cub was released from its cage. It charged at her, and she snapped an ice bolt in response. Before she could throw it, the Cub teleported behind her and bit her injured leg. The crowd whooped and cheered amidst her cries, and applauded mercilessly as the beast tore out her flesh. She blasted the beast with her ice bolt, putting out its fire and earning boos from the audience. She finished it off with a thunderbolt to the head, killing it. The crowd became enraged, and poured into the arena to get at her. She tried to flee, but was cornered and assaulted by the mob. "No, please! Mercy! Let me go! NO!! STOP!!" she cried desperately. They ignored her pleas as they proceeded to mercilessly strip and beat her.

See as how man is basically good,
How he is loving, and does what he should.
Cares for his fellows, in mobs or alone,
His golden-clad heart is clearly shown.

Enter Carter

Carter felt like a dump.

He'd failed to find the Weaver "Taric," got chewed out and clawed by his boss, and had to do some PR stunts after the unexpected rebellion of one of his men. Well, it was nothing a trip to the Haven Arena wouldn't soothe over. He got a ticket for a front row seat and sat next to a really noisy group of teenagers.

Last week's contestant was a really buff weaver, and went down in an unforgettable blaze of glory, so he was pumped to see who was this week's contestant. To his surprise and delight, it was a beautiful teenage girl. This is gonna be good, he thought to himself.

But it wasn't good. In fact, it got downright ugly as the Vog Cub gruesomely tore into her beautiful, delicate flesh. He almost couldn't stand to watch. He began to feel sick to his stomach, so he got up from his seat and brushed past the roaring crowd onto the street. He keeled over, emptied his stomach, and passed out.

When he awoke, he still felt sick. He stood up, and nearly vomited again as a pungent stink reached his nostrils. Not far away lay the girl he'd seen earlier, disfigured almost beyond recognition and covered in slime. He activated the digital mask on his helmet to filter out the smell and wandered over for a closer look. She was still breathing. Witch or no witch, she needed his help, so he gingerly took her up in his arms and carried her to his home.

He set her down in the washtub and cleaned her off, taking care to observe her privacy, and put her in a bathrobe before laying her in the guest bed for the night. He lay down in his own bed and began to think.

Dude, she's a witch! If anyone catches you, you'll be next in the arena!
No I won't. They won't even recognize her.
But they'll think she's your hoe.
Maybe. Does anyone care?
Pfft, no, but your girlfriend will.
She's not nobody.
Since when did she ever care about you?
Like...a year ago.
Exactly.
What does this have to do with the little twerp in my guest bed?
Everything. Get her out.
But she needs help!
And then she'll kill you with her magic powers.
Yeah, but-
But what? You think she'll be grateful that you saved her? You just helped her after the damage was done.
I'm not a bad guy, you know!
Dam straight. You're a terrible guy.
No, I'm not!
You're a sick, twisted pervert!
Stop it! Enough!

He sat up, unable to sleep with such thoughts in his mind, and wandered back into the guest bedroom. The girl looked so...helpless. There was no way that she was a killer. He laid down on the floor next to her bed and fell asleep.

Hope Wolvers dont take over...

Name:
Vargon

Species:
Alpha Voltail

Gender:
Male

Life stage:
Elder

Age:
11 (x6 in Wolver Years).

Appearance:
Dark Blue Glowing Left eye, Right eye is white and doesnt glow.
Dark Grey Fur on his back & Head, Lining the Grey & his Beard is Beige Fur.
Legs and Tail are a Faded Crimson. Has a Vivid scar striking through his blind right eye. Has a Darkfang shield on his back.

Biography:
Vargon was born in captivity by Gremlins while the compound he calls his home was still active. His Mother died giving birth to him, and miscarried his siblings. Because of this, his breeder raised him as a Pup & cared for him through his adolescent life. They were a happy family who enjoyed eachother's company.

The two went hunting together, and Vargon was trained as a Carrier for the Gremlin's gear, including a couple of axes and his own Darkfang Shield. Because of this, Vargon built up his strength while venturing with his master. He learnt how to be a Wolver in his own right while chasing down prey that his Gremlin Partner couldn't catch. However it all changed when the demons came.

While Vargon was settling down by his Master's side, a struggle could be heard near the entrance of the Compound. Vargon's master took his axe and started to head out, but noticed his Wolver starting to follow him. Vargon looked quizacally into his Master's eyes as he fastened his shield onto his back. Telling him to stay, the Gremlin rushed out toward the sign of danger. Vargon sat and awaited for his Master to return, but he never did. Come morning, the Wolver creeped out and saw what was left. It saddened him deeply.

Gremlin bodies were strewn around, lifeless. Signs of Gunfire and battle were obvious. Vargon sniffed around and finally found what he was hoping not to find, the Corpse of his Master though he smelt different. Next to it was a strange sword. Not one he had ever seen before. It had a scent he had never smelt before too, but it was the same that was on his blood-stained Friend. An anger began to build inside of Vargon as he identifed the Scent's owner to his Master's killers. His pain, anguish and firy built up into one loud roar that echoed through-out the facility. He would do to whoever beared this scent what they did to his Master, in as much blood as he could bleed from them.

A few years passed before animals started to inhabit the ruined Facility, now named "Compound X5", amongst them were a colony of small furry critters. Not seeming very capable of defending themselves, Vargon thought himself as their Guardian, to make sure no-one of his Master's Death Scent would repeat history for him.

The Compound lays dormant for the most part, still rumoured to home the Shielded Wolver, a Ghost of the Facility's past. This all coming from Journals found close to the site, amonst lifeless bloody corpses of Recruits. Covered in bite marks and bearing an odd electrical charge. Now those who dare enter Compound X5 only wish for a swift end to their service on Cradle.

Personality:
Is caring for other creatures, and will welcome any to his compound that seem to be at a loss. Despises anyone/thing that wishes to harm his Dust Bunnies. Will visiciously assault anyone that wears Cobalt Armour as it bears the scent he associates with his Master's death. Is getting quite old, so cant provide much of a Chase. Gets sleepy quite alot, and can ofen be found lazing around the wild areas of the compound. Has very accute hearing and will always rush to the sound of his Dust Bunnies in danger. Will be very reluctant to attack Gremlins since they remind him of his master, but will defend himself if they strike 1st. Will never pursue an enemy outside of a Level. Will only pursue Cobalt Wearing Knights outside of his Compound. Will still try and hunt down enemies while they are in his compound.

Desired Role:
Recurring if the cast returns to the Compound, or Minor if its sure to be a 1-time thing.

Expendability:
Give him an Intro, some screen time. If he dies, Make it Dramatic. Would prefer for him to protect his compound til old age takes him, but its up to you.

Arsenal/Abilities:
Alpha Bite: The 3 bites in succession that all Alphas do, Shield: Can lie flat and almost Turtle using his Darkfang to block attacks. Dash: Can quickly dash around to an enemy's flank. (Cant Burrow, the shield gets in the way).

Note: If it's ok with Thinslayer & Atcatg, would be awesome for the 2 wolvers to meet somehow.

I could see Blue being a police dog and Vargin being a dog with weaving powers. That would likely earn them a spot in the fanfic.

Thanks for the feedback!

On the corner of Wheaton Avenue & Chantilly Street, there was a little inn called "Rudkin's Inn," named after its owner, a Stranger named Rudkin. Taric pulled his cloak over his shoulders and brushed through the doors. He hopped onto a barstool and rested his head in his hands. The bartender today was Rudkin himself, who wandered over to Taric and looked him over. "Ya look like ye could a drink, son," he said warmly. Taric looked up at him and sighed, "Sure, whatever. Milk please." Rudkin frowned behind his mask and nodded. He slid a glass of milk in Taric's direction, but another patron reached out and caught it instead. The man grinned at Taric, who just sighed again and looked down at his arms. The glass of milk bumped into him, and he looked up. The man who'd caught his milk earlier was laughing his head off. Taric chugged it down and said to the man, "Hey, no hard feelings. I'm Taric." The man reached over and shook hands with him, saying, "Cool. I'm Armero."

Armero ordered a glass of beer and pointed to Taric's empty glass. "You a medic?" Taric looked at the glass, then back at Armero and replied, "Yeah, how'd you know?" Armero chuckled and said, "Medics don't drink alcohol." They both had to laugh at that. Taric added, "Hunters only drink alcohol," to which they both laughed again. Armero finished his drink and nudged Taric. "See that guy over there?" He pointed to a fellow in a Chaos Cowl and Cloak. "He's been staring at you for the last five minutes. I don't like him. Shall we go see what he wants?" Taric nodded, and they both sat at his table.

It immediately became apparent that "he" was not a guy at all. A raspy feminine voice spoke quietly from under the cowl, "Hello Taric. It's good to see you again." Taric realized that she resembled the figure that impaled the Justifier the other night. He tried to get up and run, but something was holding him down. Now more than a little scared, he replied, "It-it's good to see you too." Armero chuckled and extended his hand to the woman. "I'm Armero! What's your name, ma'am?" The woman extended a scarred hand to him and shook it. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Armero." She returned her attention to Taric, who was fidgeting in his seat. "You want to go so soon? Please, stay awhile." She passed him a drink. "I've been expecting you."

Taric's eyes widened. "You-you have!?"
"Of course. Do you have any idea how long I've been looking for you?"
"Uh...no, not really. How-how long?"
"Oh...about a year now."
"Wait, a year!?"
She flicked a few fingernails with her thumb. "Roughly."
"But...but why?"
"Because we could use men like you. Soldiers with multiple elemental powers and medical skills are hard to find these days."

Armero turned to Taric wide-eyed. "You're a Weaver? Whoa! You guys are awesome!" Some of the surrounding patrons turned and looked at them curiously. Taric whispered, "Please keep it down, will you? Weavers aren't exactly popular around here." Armero put a hand over his mouth and said, "Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to say it so loud." The woman smiled under her hood and placed a hand on Taric's. "Don't worry, we won't make a scene. I would like to speak to you privately outside." Left without a choice, Taric stood up (now released from whatever was holding him down) and walked out of the inn with her.

Once they were outside, Taric tried to run from her, but once again found himself pinned face down in the dirt by an unseen force. The woman chuckled and shook her head. "Tsk tsk! You should know better than to try to run from me. I was hoping to settle the matter cleanly, but I see now that it's not possible." He heard the sound of a sword being drawn, and shut his eyes tight.

A dull thunderclap hit nearby, and suddenly he was no longer pinned to the ground. He quickly got up and snapped a fireball, but the woman was nowhere to be seen. Instead, he saw an Alpha Voltail. Under normal circumstances, he would have attacked it, but...well, clearly these weren't normal circumstances! That Voltail had just saved his life. He dispelled the fireball and watched it cautiously. The Voltail did likewise, and the two held a staring contest.

The inn door opened, and Armero stepped out. "What's going on? I heard some weird thunder out- whoa Nelly! That there's an Alpha Voltail! Don't git any closer to it!" Without averting his gaze, Taric said, "I don't think it plans on hurting anyone. It just saved my life." Armero raised an eyebrow. "Ya don't say? That's rather unlikely, ain't it?" "I suppose so," Taric replied, "but it doesn't change what happened."

The Voltail got bored of the staring contest and began to wander away, but Taric could have sworn that it winked at him before leaving. Taric sighed and went back into the inn with Armero. He went up to Rudkin at the bar and asked, "Can I reserve a room for the night?" Rudkin nodded and handed him a small contract paper. "Sign it and it's yours." Taric signed his name at the bottom and went upstairs. "Good night Armero!" Armero waved and called back, "G'night Taric! See ya in th' mornin'!"

Taric found his room and plopped down on the bed. What a strange day, he thought to himself as he drifted off to sleep.

He looked for Emberlight for a few years, for 6 years in fact. The Emberlighers attacked him on sight. Being a Motarfire, he wasn't used to direct combat. He was beaten instantly. The Emberlighters knew the truth when they heard his story, for what kind of Gremlin would send a Motarfire to spy?

He lived in Emberlight for 2 more years, and helped the place out in a few raids of the colony's supply crates. He regained his usual weapons, and is now stationed at Emberlight.

Cheerful, loves joking around. Loves to be sarcastic in action. Selfish. Does not like helping people unless there's a personal benefit, or if it's related to harming the colony.

Gremlins?

This Emberlighter looks pretty tough.
These guys look like great characters, too.

I plan on using one of these to represent your gremlin character. Pick one? :D

Waking up

Carter awoke to a cacophony of retching sounds. He rolled over and sat up on the floor to see the girl vomiting into a bowl. That was considerate of her. He stood up and watched helplessly as she spit up loads of ugly slime into his washbowl. When she had finished, he took the bowl and handed her a wipe. When he came back from washing it out in the tub, he found her sitting in a chair at the dinner table, wrapped loosely in his blanket. He brewed up a pot of tea, poured some for the both of them in two mugs, and handed her one as he sat down with her.

"So...what's your name miss?"
She just looked at him blankly.
"Uh...you a Weaver?"
She looked down at her tea.
"Look, I can't help you if you don't talk to me."
She sipped her tea and muttered, "Gwen."
He nodded and drank a gulp of tea. "Nice name."

There was awkward silence for a minute or two. He piped up again, "Y'know, I-" Then the doorbell rang. He grunted with frustration and opened it to find two Spiral Justifiers standing before him. "Howdy! We got sources sayin' you're harb'rin' a Weaver in yer home?" Carter deadpanned and exclaimed, "Dude, I hunt Weavers for a livin'. B'sides, I don't stick out my neck fer nobody." The Justifiers looked behind him at Gwen holding her cup of tea at the table. Carter quickly added, "Well, 'cept my niece." The men looked at each other and laughed. "Okey doke! Just checkin'. Stay safe, ye hear?" Carter laughed nervously and nodded. "Sure thing. See ya fellas!" He closed the door and sighed with relief.

He took his seat at the table and drank down his now-lukewarm tea. "That was a close one." Gwen finished her tea and asked him quietly, "Why are you helping me?" Carter rinsed out their cups in the sink and replied, "I dunno. I'm supposed to kill you." He heard the chair move back, and a small hand touched his shoulder. "Thank you," she whispered. He shrugged and began to put on his power suit. "I'm goin' huntin'. Come with?" he asked with a grin. She smiled weakly and nodded.

They headed down to Spiral Headquarters, where Carter let out a loud whistle. A snow white frostifur bounded into view and eagerly licked Carter's face. He chuckled and hugged her. "Her name's Blue. Isn't she the cutest?" he asked with a giggle. Gwen smiled and stroked its fur. Just then, someone roughly grabbed her shoulder. "Say, you look awfully familiar, young lady. Have we met?" She turned around to find a man in Mighty Cobalt staring down at her, with a hand on one of his two Valiances. "Um...no," she replied tersely. The man smirked and retorted, "Well, we have now." He whipped out his Valiance and put it to her head. "You're coming with me."

She looked at Carter, but he had his gun drawn and pointed at her, too. "Sorry, ma'am. Our little escapade ends here. I'm a Pureblood same as the next guy, and I'm not going to let you darn Weavers take over and kill us all." A tear dropped from the girl's eye, and he suddenly regretted betraying her. But there was no turning back now. He looked away as the man in Mighty Cobalt hauled her away.

He called for Blue and walked out of the office. The morning sky looked beautiful, like Fall decided to come early this year and grace the heavens with the colors of her season. But Carter didn't feel any better. Blue tried to cheer him up by tempting him with a game of catch, but she eventually gave up on him after he held on to the stick for too long. He kicked a rock and sighed. What am I doing? That girl needed my help. They'll probably just throw her into the arena again, and she'll die this time. But she's a Weaver! Why should I care? They'll kill us all, given half the chance! I'm just working for the greater good. Come on, God! Help me out here! I'm a good person, right? Right? "ANSWER ME!!" No answer came except a surprised yelp from Blue.

Well, no answer came immediately, I should say. A shady-looking person in a Chaos Cowl and Cloak sidled up next to him from the shadows. He recognized it as his boss, and nodded in acknowledgement of her presence. She whispered, "You did well catching her, but I still need that other man dealt with. I last saw him at Rudkin's Inn; can I count on you to nab him for me?" He nodded and replied, "You can indeed. One question, though: what's gonna happen to the girl?" The woman smiled and placed a scarred hand on his shoulder.

"We'll take good care of her."

This is the most recent story post.

@Topoyozariane: Yes, it was indeed your character capturing Gwen.

The second picture is of a gremlin mender helping a wounded gremlin demo through an icy, war-torn battlefield while under Sentenza fire. It's really very dramatic and awesome. Try googling "spiral gremlin mender demo" and see if you can find it. Tevokkia drew it.

Your request is granted. The Emberlight Gremlin is now your official picture for your character Harry Reid- I mean Red. xD

So to my understanding, the Pureblood faction is the enemy to the main character (Taric)? Are the majority of knights part of the Pureblood faction (treating the Weavers as non-human), or are they mainly tolerant of them?

I'm really liking the story so far. Seems like Carter might be switching sides or something.

@Playerman

Glad you like it! *wipes forehead*

There are two main factions, the Purebloods and Weavers. The vast majority of knights are Purebloods, which are your average human beings without any special powers. The Weavers are, as their name suggests, human capable of bending and weaving spacetime to their will. Weaving requires an immense amount of energy, which, until the opening of the Core, was not widely available, so those capable of weaving were unaware of it until the Core was opened. They are an extremely rare breed, but it is a dominant gene, so anyone wishing to wipe them out must do so completely.

Edit: that means that this genetic trait appeared recently. That's not a coincidence. ;)

Unfortunately, Weavers are still human, and many of them saw their new powers as an opportunity to indulge their hearts' desires. They became a curse upon society, committing mass murders, grand thefts, and other atrocities with nigh-impunity. People began to call for their complete elimination, unjustly ignoring the presence of the law-abiding few. They began to use the atrocities of the Weavers as an excuse to commit atrocities of their own against them, sparking a bloody feud that the Purebloods eventually won, sending the remaining Weavers into exile.

Hardly anyone now is tolerant of Weavers, and even those of the next generation, who were not alive during the reign of the Weavers, have learned to despise them. The feeling is mutual.

I probably should have told all this in some kind of flashback, but whatever.

Taric's Turn

"Are you awake sir?"
"..."
"You are in danger, sir! Awake!"
*groan* Taric turned over in the bed.
"Good. You shouldn't have stayed the night."
Taric yawned. "Mmf, wht?"
"You shouldn't have stayed the night, sir."

Taric turned over again to find a pale Justifier staring down at him. Taric nearly jumped out of his skin, but then realized that this could be the guy that helped him earlier. Wasn't he supposed to be dead? "I thought..." *yawn* "...that you were dead?" "No sir, merely impaled," came the terse reply. Taric sat on the side of the bed and rubbed his eyes. "I'll say. You're impale as a ghost," he muttered. The Justifier extended a hand to help him up. "My name is Valderis. You must be Taric." "Yessiree, that I am," he said lazily as he stood himself up.

"Why shouldn't I have stayed the night?" Taric asked as they went downstairs. "Because no fewer than three fellows have been asking for you here. They're waiting outside," Valderis said calmly. Taric rubbed his eyes again and exclaimed, "Wait- three? I don't know three people!!" Valderis beckoned him to sit at a table with him. They each took a seat in the corner, where Valderis replied, "But they know you, sir. One was Carter, my former boss and the guy who was after you earlier, one was the Lady In Charge who impaled me, and one was a young silver-haired woman. Do you know the latter?" Taric shook his head. "Nope, don't know the silver-haired one," he replied. Valderis loaded a couple rounds into his Callahan and said, "Got any weapons?" Taric spun his Argent Peacemaker in his hand and sheathed it, drawing a wry smile from his new friend. "Let's do this thing."

They calmly walked to the front door and peeked out. Valderis darted to the nearest rock, dropped to the ground, and scanned the area for enemies. Seeing none, he beckoned Taric to follow. Still no enemies. They made it to the main road without any resistance. Valderis didn't stop holding his breath, though.

"This don't feel right. They shoulda caught us by now."
Taric looked around and shrugged. "Maybe that Voltail got 'em."
"Voltail?"
"Alpha Voltail. Had a Darkfang Shield on its back."
"I doubt that even an Alpha Voltail would be a match for the Lady In Charge."
"Say what you want, but I saw it drive her off that one time."
Valderis's eyes widened. "Drove her off?? That's impossible, unless..."
"Unless it's a Weaver."
"Yeah, unless it's- wait, what? Voltails can't weave."
"That one did."

They didn't speak again until they reached the edge of New Emberlight. Taric piped up again, "Say, I've got two questions for ya. First, why did we go here? And second, why are you helping me?" Valderis sighed and said, "For the first one, 'cuz it's a heck of a lot safer than Haven. For the second one, I ain't helpin' ya 'cuz y'all deserve it. No sir, I ain't. I'm helpin' you scumbags b'cause two wrongs don't make a right." Taric nodded. He could understand that. They ventured into town, where they were met by a tough-looking young gremlin. "Helloo! I'm Harry. Pleezure to maake yer acquaintance fellas." Taric eagerly shook his hand, quite pleased to find a Gremlin who could speak intelligible Isoran. Valderis saluted Harry and said curtly, "Hello Harry."

Harry beckoned them to follow him to the Town Hall, where they were introduced to an elderly gremlin named Zedd. Zedd stood up with some difficulty and saluted them. "Greetings, feelow traav'lerz. Haave ye coome far?" They both nodded, and Valderis noted, "We came from Rudkin's Inn, not ten miles hence." Zedd stroked his beard thoughtfully. Harry piped up, "Kin aye coome with ya, whereever ye goin'?" Taric smiled and said, "Sure! We're running from some folks who are trying to hunt us down, and we could really use any help we can get." Harry clapped his hands and danced around. "Yippee! I git to see the vorld! Whee!" Valderis stifled a snicker, but Taric just burst out laughing. Zedd rapped his staff on the floor, and everyone fell silent. "Find our guardian angel, and she will help you find a place to stay. Well, perhaps I should say that you should step outside to let her find you. Begone! We shall speak again once you have settled in."

They stepped outside onto the dusty streets. It was high noon, and the merciless sun beat down on them like an angry dragon. They put their weapons into storage so they wouldn't get too hot to operate and began to explore the town. Across the street, standing out in a crowd of busy gremlins, stood a bright silver-haired girl. Taric pointed her out, and the three of them stepped across the street to greet her. She waited patiently for them to approach, and smiled when they reached her. Valderis tried to say something, but she shushed him and beckoned them to follow her. She led them into an innocent-looking craft shop, past the checkout desk, and into the back room. She removed a beautiful statuette to reveal a hidden button. When she pressed it, the nearby wall slid open to reveal a passageway with stairs leading downward.

Once inside, the girl turned on the lights and pressed another button, which closed up the passageway. Then she waved and said cheerfully, "Hi everyone! My name is..."

[To be revealed next chapter! Stay tuned!]

Yet another character app. This is part of a large shared universe that I've had tumbling around my head for years now; maybe it can find an outlet here.

Name: Tom MacGregor
Species: Wanderer (human)
Gender: Male
Life stage: Young adult
Age: ??? (indeterminate; very long-lived)
Appearance: Black hair in generic boy's haircut, brown eyes, average height, trendy jacket, plain T-shirt, jeans, sneakers, fingerless gloves; clothes like an explosion in an Animeland fashion store. (He was dragged on a shopping spree when he was still figuring out what he was and decided to keep the outfit as a memento.) Hints of a worn exoskeleton throughout, woven into his clothing.

Biography: Tom hails from a universe a bit like ours, but with two key changes; Star Trek was even more of a phenomenon than it was in OTL, and the writers actually got their science stuff right through some streak of luck. He was originally a technician working on dimensional technology on a deep space outpost when he and the station got sucked into one of those swirly space wedgie thingies Star Trek loves so much. Instead of just leaving behind a mystery for the Enterprise to solve, he got tossed into another universe, Seiren to be specific. Soon after he learned that he had inherited the title of Wanderer; a protector of the infinite multiverse, bestowed with a long life and various enhanced abilities. (Unfortunately, the multiverse shapes the Wanderer as much as it is shaped, and part of that multiverse is Warhammer 40,000; see Arsenal and Personality for more info.) Tom now works with the Transcendental Technomorphs (TransTechs for short; hyper-advanced, eternally snooty Cybertronians who discovered the Transformers-themed section of the multiverse and gained access to the rest with the help of a Wanderer) and their allied organizations to shut down any threats to the multiverse at large. He joins this story as he accompanies the TransTechs on a voyage to the HQ of an alternate Spiral Order (not humans like in here, they're basically like they are in-game minus the whole stuck-on-Cradle bit) for a security summit. Of course, something goes horribly wrong with the TransTech ship's jumpdrive and as Tom instinctively tries to escape by warping out (wit) he ends up on No Safe Haven Cradle.

Personality: When Wanderers become what they are, sometimes bits of other universes slip in to their souls. The Warhammer-verses are a very big part of the multiverse, so when the results of such a bonding are apparent it's usually a piece of Chaos that's to blame. Tom got a fragment of Slannesh, god of hedonism and excess, and he's understandably rather upset about it. (Normally I wouldn't let something like this near SK, but since this is a GRIMDARK fic about ethnic cleansing I'll let it go.) As a Wanderer, he has been to many worlds and seen many things, many of them quite unpleasant. Being a scientist from Star Trek world, he has a lot of nerdiness and curiosity about the world around him, and he will be the first to point out the cliche nature of the world around him. Lurking beneath all this is a drive to help others in need, and a worry of the dark bond that may consume him. The result: a man who is simultaneously mischievous, jaded, concerned for those around him, and very very snarky.

Desired role: supporting/recurring. Use as a way to highlight just how crazy this world is.

Expendability: Don't kill him! I have plans for this guy! However, there are a bunch of ways you could get rid of him non-lethally and without doing disabling stuff like chopping off limbs. The TransTechs could find him and drag him off, with Tom having to follow along for propriety's sake. He could be wounded enough to have to limp back to his home base in Axiom Nexus, unable to keep helping in this world; this would be a good way to incorporate Canon Knights, if you want to do that. He could just shake his head and walk away after a particularly nasty Pureblood atrocity.

Arsenal: Tom's Wanderer spark grants him enhanced physical abilities compared to a normal guy. He's not Spider-Man or anything, but he's better than some average guy. Other Wanderer abilities include a generic "second sight" power and the ability to sense the auras of the life around him; it's not a radar thing, though. His Slanneshi aspect grants him the ability to dash short distances with great force, independent of such petty things as gravity. (The effect is this small because Slannesh is the youngest and weakest of the Chaos Gods; other gods get nastier effects with ugly drawbacks.) Tom is fond of using this ability and his enhanced agility to do acrobatic stuff to irritate his enemies and get around quickly. He is equipped with a personal shield generator, projected by a worn exoskeleton. Capable of using Spiral weaponry, albeit not as well as a practiced Knight; fortunately, he's more than capable of throwing a few punches and kicks. Carries a sword of light in a bell jar; don't ask him where he got it from.

More stuff later, including a prospective intro chapter maybe.

It seems that we are of kindred spirit - my character Astran Valderis is from another universe entirely (I call it "Shattered Universe"), and Gwenyvier Valentine has been carried over from multiple stories and roleplays. I can certainly appreciate the amount of lore that went into your character, and in the possible event that he is included in this fanfic, I will attempt to utilize it to the best of my ability.

That said, blank-slate characters are much easier to integrate. But I'll do my best to find a good use for him.

Loading Dervenin's app. Sorry if unusable.

Herp derp, Realized this app was supposed to be here and not in Needles and Threads. Sorry about that.

Name: Dervenin, Bezerker of Den-Lon (The name may be subject to change)

Color: Dark Blue

Weaponry: Khorovod, An industrial catalyzer and a magnus (Upgrades into a Iron slug), Blast bombs and Super shard bombs. A few knives and a Tempered calibur for backup if his primary weapon is knocked away.

Life stage: Mature adult

In Armor: Modified heavy demo set. Trades in bomb bonuses and lowers elemental damage resistance in favor to have defence against all three attack elements, (Peircing, Elemental and Shadow). Normal resistance remains unchanged.

The Armor set itself appears to have numerous bolts and plates in certain areas, Pouches strapped over the chestpeice and waist, with a large backpack in place of the tube normally found on the backs of Demo Armor, and a Heavy canteen.
The Helmet is as the same style as the armor, and it has a heavy Comm array, Prismatic mowhawk, and a heavy scarf.
The Shield is the same base model as a heavy plate shield, Except the set of Slightly-upward-tilted spikes mounted on its front, designed to gore foes whilst doing a shield bash.
The set itself is called the Glacier set, upgrades into the Mighty Glacier set.

Appearance: His eyes wear a sort of tired expression, Sad will do, Dervenin is quite tall and walks a little haunched over, possibly because of guilt.

Out of armor: Dervenin wears gray slacks and a dark grey shirt, not being one for bright colors all the time. He still has the heavy scarf around his neck however. Hs hairstyle is similar to Axel's from kingdom hearts, except it's simpler, smaller and black in color.

Personality: Dervenin tends to be a jaded and cynical person, Preferring to look at the gritty realism of a situation, and that of life in general. Despite that, he is quiet, humble, and will put others interests above his own. Dervenin usually is very protective of gremlins.
He views their situation as one thing; "Kid, this is no war. This is a massacre, A genocide of almost biblical proportions. If the order is too busy squabbling over this petty situation of who has powers and who does not, instead of getting us off this rock with minimal casualties on all sides, then I have no need of this 'Order'."

Bio: Born on and raised at one of the outskirt colonies of the Order, Dervenin was your average spiral knight in training; A proto. After his graduation, Dervenin was positioned as a guard for the quiet colony of Den-Lon. This changed quickly when a Morai Raiding force appeared, and began to attack the colony. Dervenin earned his namesake after his dynamic entry of piloting an Explosive rigged truck into a large platoon, cutting it's size down by half, then charging in with a Troika and a few associates. Dervenin completely ignored the attacks of the Morai as he began to carve them, how a butcher would carve his meat in a shop. When a platoon found what was supposed to be a large assault force, was instead Dervenin and his friends, Bloody, beaten and exhausted, and the dismembered, and at times disintigrated, corpses of the Morai.
After the reinforcements arrived, Dervenin and his friends were recalled and sent to the Skylark.
That was many years ago now. ( Maybe a decade, Don't know how long Spirals live, this is meant to be a past event, before the Skylark encountered cradle)

The Core is open, The weavers have appeared, and Dervenin honestly couldn't give a damn about the situation.
Despite being called back numerous times in order to combat the 'New Threat', the Order made the error in speaking directly to him.
He had already seen the best and worst of all three factions (Weavers, Gremlins and Knights), And most of the Order were found wanting, as they were simply bickering over how they wanted to run the show, or their at times irrational hate for others not like themselves.
Dervenin made the decision of leaving the order, Cutting his ties with the it and most of his associates, Dervenin vanished completely from their radar, and branded a traitor and a coward.
That was only a few years ago (I Can't remember how far that was ago now :/ )
Now, Dervenin and his Drakon, Spark, wander the clockworks looking for some form of reason, some form of peace, Both tired of the meaningless struggles between the three. They occaisionally assist with some matters, but to them, its a moral matter above all else, and they will assist when they believe that they should. Dervenin's favor however, leans towards the gremlins, As he views the situation, they are just fighting for their lives and their homes, or because they have no choice.
As of late however, Dervenin has been spotted in tier 1 stratums, either assisting tenderfoots with deconstruction, chasing them out, or holding off other spirals, through many means, sometimes by chat, other times through force, in order to get them out of the level

He has no issues with any of the soldiers of any faction, but will try to avert conflicts when able, and avert the Spirals and Weavers from the deconstruction levels.

Expendability: Completely up to you.

Tidbits;
Tranquil Fury: In this state, Dervenin completely ignores any physical torments and can clearly focus on two things; The battle, and the Utter obliteration of his foes. His overall stats increase dramatically. (Should I edit this and put in an attack style or leave it up to you?)
Loves potato wedges and light beer. He's a smart drinker at least.

Role: More of a side character, bun the main cast run into him every now and again. Whether you want him to be friend or foe is up to you to decide.
Do what you want with him, and feel free to modify this in any way.

Also, apologies if I did this incorrectly or if it's not good enough.

Chapter 2: Abject Fear

"Carter..."

"YOU MONSTER!!"

Broken souls dance in my head...the call out to me with fell voices, crying for justice...death...my death! An innocent young woman clad in white approaches me with open hand. "Come, Carter! I forgive you." I reach out to her, but she begins to scream. She holds her face as it melts, and soon she is devoured alive by hungry beasts. Dark voices whisper in my head, "Guilty! Guilty!" I cannot be rid of them...

Carter woke up in a cold sweat. He looked at the clock; it was 3am. He got up, took a shower, and made himself a cup of tea. He had to be at Rudkin's Inn at 4am, so he might as well get ready. He donned his armor and equipment and made a sleepy exit half an hour later.

The inn was closed at this hour, and the manager wouldn't be in until 5am, so that gave him an hour to search the premises for his fugitive. He sneaked past the night stockers and maids as he checked each room, but his search proved fruitless by the time the inn opened. Looks like I'll have to interview the staff. Once the bartender clocked in (it wasn't Rudkin this time), he stepped up to the bar, held up a mugshot of Taric, and asked, "Have you seen this man?" The bartender shook his head. "Nope, sorry, cain't 'elp ya." At that moment, an older man with a Kat Hiss hat came downstairs from his room to get a bite to eat. Carter showed him Taric's picture as he sat down. "Have you seen this man?" he asked. The older man nodded. "Yep! Talked to him the other day. Pleasant fella, but a mite touchy." "Where did he go?" Carter asked excitedly. The old man pointed in the direction of New Emberlight. "He went that-a-way with his friend."

Carter frowned. "Friend?"
"Yep. Real imposin' fella, looked like a Justifier."
"Justifier!?"
"Yeah! Do I have to repeat it?"
"No, no, sorry, I'm just surprised is all."
"What's he mean to ya?"
"Well, he's...an old friend of mine."
"Is that so? You look kinda officious to be his friend."
"Well, he was friendly with a Justifier, right?"
"Yup, I guess it ain't so impossible, but...two of ya!?"
"Yep."
"Have at 'im, then. Like I said, that-a-way."
"Thanks."

Carter got up and headed down the road in the indicated direction. From the looks of it, he was in for quite a hike.

Instead of hiding in an alleyway, Carter will sit on the roof of a building to spy/observe something. I'm sure you can guess how he gives chase afterwards. :P

@Playerman

Makes sense for his character. I'll keep that in mind. :)

I'm trying to maintain a rate of one story post per day. The most recent one was typed up on an iPhone. :P

Edit: Darn, I didn't have time to make another post today. Besides, I haven't yet figured out what path to take from here. I should have it worked out by the time I get home from work tomorrow.

@Dragonlordofchaos

I'd appreciate some proper punctuation and paragraph divisions in the bio, but I can probably work with what's given. "Happy," "quick," and "mysterious" don't seem to go together. Are you thinking of a Han Solo or Mal Reynolds kind of character?
