I got screwed

A guy named "Yellowkid" took all my mats, 100 energy, 2,000 crowns to make me a Fused Demo Helm. When I gave them he took off to the Town and logged off. I haven't gotten a hold of him since and am hoping some Gm or someone can help me. And also to warn everyone to never deal with this guy ever if tries to sell you something.

I feel i had to post something... basically, in the entirety of my spiral knights career, I've always had to dealt with incredibly high latency. since the first preview even (i know everyone complained of the lagg then), all the way up to now. the last preview i could deal with it... it wasn't to hard, i just had to preemptively move. spikes weren't a problem, mobs weren't a problem either. but now, there are so many mobs to deal with and i can't just spam bombs anymore.

I'm trying to understand mob drops.
As an example, I've got a recipe that uses brute cores. These are supposed to come from blue brute jellies. A blue, brute jelly is different from a normal jelly, and what descriptive text I've seen so far indicates that the cores of these jellies is what makes them tick.

Yet over in the bazaar, someone just said that brute cores drop starting on floor 9.

I don't understand this, neither from game design, nor game balance, nor consistency.

As I see it:
If a monster is supposed to drop X, then it can drop X anywhere it can be found.

Towns are too far apart.

Especially when the levels in between them are large levels. It took me nearly 3 hours today to solo from Moorcroft to Emberlight, and that was with skipping an entire floor, and at least half of another. Having a party makes things go faster, but even then you're looking at a chunk of time to go from one town to the next.

This is problematic because towns are the only place that you can 1) save your progress and 2) change your gear.

Transfer of unique properties to crafted items

Question: If I have a base item needed for a recipe, and the base item has a unique property (example - prismatech alchemer with increased damage vs. Fiend: High) and I use it to craft a new weapon, is the unique property transferred? Does anyone have any experience with that?

And if not, maybe I should have put this in the suggestions subforum.

Followup question: Is the firotech alchemer more trouble than it's worth? I like the idea of setting enemies on fire, but I could see that backfiring (ha) pretty easily, especially in group play.
