February is here, and that means Valentine's Day! This year we want you to make a Spiral Knights themed Valentine that can be given to any NPC in the game.
General Format:
The Valentine must have three things:
- A cheesy, Spiral Knights themed line. Groan-worthy puns are encouraged. For example, "I think of you knight and day."
- A "TO:" field, left blank.
- A "FROM: field, also left blank.
Deadline: February 15, 2016, 11:59 PM Game Time (Pacific time zone)
Prizes: Three (3) winners from each of the two entry categories will be able to pick between a forever love puppy mask, a love aura, heart eyes, lovely glasses, or specify which monster pocket you want (chroma whelp, love puppy, hoptimer, or mewkat). The winner(s) in Category 2 will also receive an additional mystery Valentine's prize. Other prizes may be added depending on participation.

Category 1: Paper and Crayon
1 - Obtain a sheet of white paper and some crayons.
2 - With the crayons, create your Spiral Knights Valentine on the sheet of paper.
3 - Make sure your entry displays the name of your knight and February 14, 2016 somewhere on your Valentine.
4 - Scan or photograph, and upload the image(s) of your Valentine on a website that allows you to link to it. For example: deviantArt, Tumblr, or Imgur

Category 2: Knock Yourself Out
In this category, it's a free-for-all! You may submit poetry, macaroni art, drawings, prose, animated gifs of your own making, whatever. Pour forth your feels and create a masterwork.* Once you have done so:
1 - For art and video, upload your entry to a website which allows you to link to it, such as YouTube, deviantArt, Tumblr, or Imgur. For written entries, you may paste the text into the body of your entry post.
2 - Make sure your entry displays the name of your knight and February 14, 2016. This can be done using an index card or small sign if it can't be added to the Valentine itself.

Judging Criteria:
Judging will be based on creativity, execution, and the earnestness of your feels. Judges will also take into consideration the quality of the photo/scan submitted. Be sure your Valentine is in focus!
*But please keep it clean--no Rule 34 or anything else that would violate the Forum Rules.

- You may enter more than once, but only one entry per knight will be awarded a prize. You may enter each category, but you may only win in one category.
- Your entry must have your knight name and the date, February 14, 2016, appear somewhere to verify this is original work for this event.
- Your entry must have a Spiral Knights theme and be directed to a game NPC.

Oh here it is
Sheesh, only 5 days to get cracking with this. I had a bit of fun in a paint software using only the brush tool not too long ago, and while it didn't come out as fine-tuned as I've done before it looked legitimately painted. Might attempt to give that a go again.
Also, any chance we can request an item not on that list? One that exists mind you, such as a heart crest...
... Because lovely whiskers are pretty high up on my "accessories that I need to preview on all costumes ever".

I'm fairly certain that lovely node slime stuff exists, they just have to press the button. After all, we've had regal and volcanic outside of the node slime box and a unique reward for this would be rather appropriate and arguably necessary for these sorts of contests to function.

I think you're confusing "possible to create at a moment's notice and release into the masses" with "already in the hands of the masses". While I don't disagree that lovely slime node stuff should be possible, I personally am just curious if accessories or items that have been officially released but not currently listed can be requested, given that they still fit the theme of the contest.

The prize list is set and won't be changed. HOWEVER, I might take suggestions for the mystery Valentine's prize for category 2. I have something in mind, but it isn't set in stone yet.
Suggestions must be something already released into the game. No guarantees I'll choose something from the suggestions.

Just making sure: are we allowed to fold the paper at all for category 1? I'd like to make mine similar to a legitimate valentine (as I intend to send it to somebody for real). And does it have to be standard printer sized paper, or can it be any size white sheet of paper (even with cut corners etc.) As long as all the sides are posted for viewing...this should be okay ;n;?
Suggestions for mystery valentine's prize: I fully back up Fangel's lovely whiskers suggestion, and wish to add "any lovely item of the user's choosing from the Blooming Prize Box," except replace the halo+purple snipe with any of the red or white snipes. Just wondering, why are glasses in particular listed as a prize? Is there a joke somewhere that I need to be laughing at?
And it would be TOTALLY AMAZING if prizes were sent in one of the Valentine's Day Gift Boxes with a custom admin note, but I understand that people could potentially scam others with "fake admin boxes," so the box would have to be acquired bound and aw shucks it's just too complicated isn't it.

Nova I'm pretty sure you can cut it as much as you want, especially if you actually are going to give it out to someone.
That sounds adorable and if Aphrodite doesn't allow it I'll gift you something random if you link me to a picture of the thing. It's the season of loooove, not certain-sized-paper.

You can decide what size paper to use. If you want wallet size or wall size - you choose! If you do any fancy cutting of the paper or oragami folding, that will need to be entered into category 2.

·can we use coloring things besides crayon? (like colored pencils?)

Yea I'm having a bit of trouble grasping the concept behind "Category 1: Paper and Crayons". It says to obtain white paper and crayons then make a valentine related to Spiral Knights. Does that mean that I can get a marker and felt and make something that isn't related to Spiral Knights or Valentines day and turn it in?

Hey, I made a video for fun and didn't realise I could enter videos in this competition but I posted it anyway. You can find it here. I'm not really sure how I can 2 - Make sure your entry displays the name of your knight and February 14, 2016. This can be done using an index card or small sign if it can't be added to the Valentine itself. though. Am I still eligible? You can see when I published the video at the very least.
Actually I realise I'm silly and didn't read the whole requirement on making a card with the FROM: and TO:. Am I eligible one tiny bit?

The developers often send the prizes to the winners through mail in-game, so it'll show up in your inbox regardless if you're online or not. It works just like any other mail, so don't forget to pick it up within 30 days since the inbox gets cleared automatically every month.

Will you be my Valentine?
Ahh!!!!!!
I had a lot of fun making these dust bunnies, and I'm ecstatic that Three Rings liked them too! Thank you to Three Rings for hosting another fun, loving contest and to all the artists who entered. :) There were so many cute artworks that made me want to hug them (silly, I know).
SIDENOTE: I might make a tutorial on how to make dust bunnies, but no guarantees!!! :O
What would I have to do to get you to add lovely node slime crusher and/or wall as a reward?
