I just had a few simple questions, i know how to create new environmental models but how do I go about giving them animation?
Also not to be rude but I noticed the logo for embrace the dark was a little meh, if you'd like me to take a crack at redoing the design I'm glad to help :D
This is my tumblr I have a few graphics up their if you just go passed my spiral spy creations.
http://tovvok.tumblr.com/
Go ahead, I just whipped the thing together when I finished all the other panels, try to keep the theme of clockwork and shadows and save it in a format compatible with transparency so I can put it over top of stuff :D.
thanks for the opportunity, I'll whip you something up tomorrow night
Working on a few environments, hoping to post them over the weekend.
can't wait to see them :), if anyone has any scenes they've made in the past I will be very happy if you were to share them with me so I can see if I can work with them for this project.
I WANT MOAR NAOW!
1. Do Knights bleed? Should they?
I think not. Heat shed seems to be mainstream so i think maybe sparks or something would be the best.
2. PG, PG-13, 14A? How vulgar should I get? I'm thinking PG-PG13
You should probably use the ^%!@#*& marks as needed. I would prefer that romance would be out of the picture, but that's your decision.
3. Family relations
I always though of knights as people in armour so...
I'm thinking yesh.
bump
3. Family relations
I guess this goes right to the issue of mechanic vs organic nature of knights. Do they have family relations like sibling, cousins, and parents? Are knights born or made? Is their such thing as Spiral children? The behavior of knights suggests an organic nature as they do feel emotions, pain, seem to need to eat and sleep, and are capable of forming bonds like comradery, friendship, possibly more. But their appearance at suggests at least a partial mechanical nature of sorts, although I would like to point out knights do have noses if you look carefully enough.
Building on my previous responses, my answer is: yes, they're born, there are families, etc.
Also I thought that "nose" was actually just a snout-like protrusion. It seems a bit too wide to be a nose (sometimes, you'll see it as an area that's lighter-shaded than the rest of the face, and it's like a crescent across the face or something).
one of the qestions there... i say PG please :D
and I WOULD LOVE TO HELP YOU to be honest u r legendary in my books for this, and the scenes u do in ur spare time just tell me what to do and i will do it ;D heres some of my work that i have been doing :D
oh yeah
i am GREAT at storyboards,casting,animation ANYTHING PLEASE tell me when your on spiral knights or do you have steam :O? or something... just please I LOVE THIS COMIC i can help you as long as it stays anything PG PG-14 :D i dont wanna get too vulgar ;) heres a thing i just did in under an hour that might be helpful:

thats all :D PLEASE I WANT THIS JOB :P i would like to know when you are on spiral knights or something so we can meet so we can chat about some stuff :D or even a chat room :D
At this point having people make scenes for me would be the most helpful thing to get this off the ground, I can't do a story or make characters without a setting to put them on.
On that note casting will be starting in the near future so keep an eye out for that.
I am very interested in reading this. I don't think knights should bleed, I think they can have families. Also, they can curse but doing this @$%# is funnier.
Four sky island environments.
That's all for now. Working on others of different themes, but need to prioritize papers. Let me know how these work, and if there's anything I can do to improve future environments, give me a heads up.
ok one question so am i hired???????? i am working on first comic prior to the knoowing if i am even supposed to IF you want me tocontinue please say so ;D
EDIT:
i will work on it anyways hoping to have first 10 pages done by tonight ;D have 2 done now will post sometime soon :D
Sorry Happy. I can't do the Haven scenes. I'll try a Wolver Den instead. Also, I have school so I may not be doing 100%.
im currently working on another sky islands scene, but then i read ur comment about keeping the shadow clockworks theme, and now idk if this is useful for the project...
here's a pic of the scene iv've been working on:
Few more pages done... 6/20 pages done :O

BTW: can the name be "The Dark King"?
i am trapped anyone got a storyboard after the dark king has ordered well.... just read my post above
Nice rodrigoch we may be able to use that as like a safe area from the cursed bots/shadow bots :D
@Smashcraft
Brilliant! I like these I can work with them. You can leave out things like the team buttons in future works because I won't be including them because the whole idea of having a great big button everyone needs to stomp on is rather silly when one is trying to be somewhat realistic :P
I've plotted out what I'm going to do for the first chapter and its going to be mainly in the clockworks, those would be the most helpful scenes at the moment.
@Rodrigoch
It's all good, I was talking with Tovvok about having him remake the title image to something more epic then what I made, which was something I threw together before i posted it, your doing fine from what I see :)
@Seelo
As much as I appreciate your enthusiasm I would like it if you could avoid spamming in this thread, use the edit button, also I think you misunderstand what I mean by when I say I need help with scenes, what I need is plain empty scenes without any characters in them, the story I'm making is something I've already mostly plotted out, NOT an open ended tale for people to add on too, don't make anymore pages if you intend for me to somehow work it into what I'm doing here cause I won't, if it's your own tale then by all means go ahead, but post it in another thread of your own.
As for the whole 'hiring' thing I think your taking my whole "need help" comment a bit too far, all help is voluntary and if you want to be a major contributor then that's your choice, what I really need right now is scenes more then anything, you can help by putting together clockwork scenes similar to the ones I posted as examples, preferably in the normal theme.
@Lordvesuvius
I suspect this is an alt for someone I know... at this point I think a wolver den may actually be more useful then a Haven scene so everything's good then.
I think i hinted that I knew that
Would a large eviroment covered by trees and bushes be good for one?
Also that end arena for the dens as well?
A question, would Wolver dens be with the Aroura Isles Sky Islands tileset/background?
as long as it doesn't have too many models and doesn't appear to suddenly drop off in the distance.
I can change the skybox as I need for a scene.
Dmg looks sorta like blood. I think you could do that. Swearing ideas: baaals: forbidden fruits.
Since I've been working on a Haven scene but it doesn't sound as though those will be needed any time soon, are there any specific Clockworks settings you would particularly like first? I would like to try and provide you with something you can actually use.
o i didn't know i was that much of a problem... bye this forum i am not probly going o n for a LONG time,,.... i just didn't know what u meant and i know i was just joking about the hire thing i just wanted to basically say "do i qualify to volunteer for this fan comic?" sorry... bye probly not posting again ;C bye
wow, nice work Happy, it was nice to see you finish this up finally :D
and yay, now i can make a wall !
I am not on the family laptop(Better for SK and spiral spy) and school. I have inset day on tuesday.
i finally finished the scene i was talking about :D hope u can use it, i tried to save as much space in environmental models as i could
"You're going about this all wrong. You don't do projects like this for praise or a massive following. You do it for yourself, then post whatever to share the joy, no matter if it's one person or a thousand that like it. Else, what the hell you doing it for? It stops being fun and becomes work."
Would like to second that. Idk if your opinion has changed since you started this thread, but just in case it hasn't I'd like to enforce the concept of doing it for your own personal enjoyment.
That said!
I would otherwise want to help out/contribute somehow, but am busy with my own wee project, so I just want to give a wee thumzup. The first person view was interesting as a visual, and the comic style appearance of the storytelling was nicely done. Looked good and kept a nice atmosphere. Well done :)
Edit - three Clockwork environments:

Quality's not great, but they should be usable.
Ok, finally force myself to put something together, let me know what you think

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/3235/embracedark.png
You can hardly make it out but the first of those can be placed over other images it is translucent
@Rodrigoch
Very well made scene, maybe too well made :P, its a bit large on the file size and I may have to cut off parts of it that I won't use if you don't mind.
@Smashcraft
Once again brilliant! I may actually be able to use these in the first chapter.
@Tovvok
Very nice, but...
The title is wrong (there is no 'ness') :P
Otherwise it is awesome :D
http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/5900/embracedarkoverlay.png
http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/3235/embracedark.png
again the first one can be put over other images
Hey Apathy, I'd like to help you with your comic here but unfortunately, I lack a lot of time for it. If you want though, I do have time to make some floors. I can do these in different patterns and switch out which tiles are used. You can also use different sections of them to make different scenes. This could potentially speed things up, but I simply cannot place every wall.dat file into place. Let me know what you think.
Here's an example
Three more Clockwork environments. As usual, let me know how these work and if there's anything specific I can do to improve future environments.

i see people messing with the eye expression of their characters in spiral spy, no matter how hard I try this i cannot achieve! how do I achieve this?
I just moved all the stuff from the pack outside to another non zip file.
I meant to leave a shadow copy of the casting thread in the general discussion forum but seem to have forgotten to do that, too late now :s
If you want to suggest a character do so in this thread:
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/42339
Suggestions in this thread here will not be considered.
@Bulby
Give an example file of what you mean and I'll see how helpful it is
That was one of the best story starters I have ever seen in these forums. Heck, even better than some things I can think of. You really out did yourself happyapathy. I would like to assist in any way I can with this project. Although I am complete crap at spiral-spy, I think of myself as a fairly decent writer so if you need some story ideas I'd be more than glad to share :)
To answer your questions:
Do knights bleed?
I've always thought of knights as alien beings wearing full suits of armor. Probably to protect themselves from an unknown environment. The black part of their helmets, I have considered an airtight balaclava with the glowing "eyes" as holographic goggles. The most realistic way I can think of making them "bleed" is to have heat, energy, or air explode from their suits to show that it has been breached and that their body is exposed to the alien environment of Cradle and The Clockworks.
Language and intimacy?
The knights always struck me as a military branch of their alien species. I would go against the overuse of language, but it might be realistic for them to spew out a cuss in dire situations (such as getting the crap blasted out of you slowly and painfully). But words like "Crap", "damn", "Oh my god" can be used more frequently, but never go overboard. Moderation is key.
As for love relationships, they can be used but in moderation, like language. Since this comic is shaping up like a horror/suspense/action thing, some relationships can be good for the plot. They can either be sources of hope for some characters, or serious flaws in others. It's kinda hard to put into words but I hope you get what I mean.
Family relations?
As I have stated before, the knights always seemed like an alien species to me, so families would make sense. However, I am unsure as to whether the entire family shall be wearing suits, or if they live in an airtight shelter. If you plan on making the armor as "military-issue" then the family should be in a safe shelter (like the Skylark pods, but bigger). Otherwise, the whole family can wear armor.
These kinds of relations can also supplement the story, but only if used correctly. I can't say how since I have no idea how this story is going to go.
I would love to see this continued and I'm prepared to offer any help I can.
Hi!!!
I'd just like to ask how do you move models (the actual characters) and how do you put 'em there in the environment?
Just asking.
Three final clockwork environments. I intend to move on to another theme from here.
I went a little crazy with the last one, but hopefully it's still usable.
@Smashcraft
Thanks for more scenes there, everyone please keep in mind that along with characters I'm also still looking for help with scene construction, at this point Haven-ish scenes will be the most helpful.
@Tovvok
I love the title screen you made, but when I tried using it to make the opening panel for the first chapter I found that I couldn't fit much else on around it :s, if you have time do you think you could remake/alter it so that I will have enough room to put other things around it (the frame size will be similar to the panels in the prologue), perhaps have the title float on top of the gear image. You also don't have to put a transparent>black gradient in the background, leaving it empty is fine. Could you also tell me what type font you used and where I can get it? Thanks.
The font is called PErfect dark I downloaded it here
http://www.1001fonts.com/font_details.html?font_id=852
And here is the revised logo for your use sir, enjoy! (not it's probably not to scale with your panels but I'm sure you can simply rescale it.)
http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/4717/embracethedarkbaybe.png
Also let me know if there is anything else I could tweak
I wish to help, But I am not good at Spiral spy yet. I am improving though, and I will learn to create scenes. As for the comic itself, No gore (Robot knights.), Nothing too vulgar, And as i mentioned a moment ago, ROBOTS! Gotta love them robots man.
Just a quick question, are those Attackers connected in anyway to the Swarm?
@Ravenevan
I'm sort of leaning towards using a bluish fluid for knights when they 'bleed' at the moment, nothing in excess though, I think they are more organic then machine but that's just my opinion.
Answering your second question would give away the whole mystery behind them :P, I did release a bit of chapter 1 in my Role Casting thread that has some speculation in it but your going to have to wait to get the answer to that question.
----------
I really should have asked this earlier but do you think I should show Gremlin's and beasts bleed? It's not a question of if they do bleed but if it would be okay to put it in.
I think that in moderation, it should be fine. I wouldn't show any decapitations or anything (not that I think you would), but a little bit of spatter here and there wouldn't be too inappropriate.
I think it mostly boils down to the sort of aesthetic you want to keep, though. Would it be realistic? Yes, of course. Would it be in line with the game itself? Not particularly. I suppose it also depends on how many gremlins and beasts you intend to kill; if you're focusing more on things that don't bleed but occasionally deal with things that do, showing them bleed would lend a little bit of contrast. If you're using gremlins and beasts heavily, then making them only bleed sometimes would be a little weird, and making them bleed all the time may get excessive.
Thanks for the guide- I'll check your wanted list on the front page and see about making something as soon as I get my little one to bed tonight.
EDIT: Indeed, this is tedious. I can see why you wouldn't want to have to do three dozen different scenes. I'm mostly done with a Haven scene and I'm a little worried that I'm going to have too many pieces ... I think I'll try a Clockworks setting when I'm done in hopes of more cooperative tiles.
