Wasn't your entry a submission? Those were supposed to be judged separately by Ters, not as a part of the whole.
Now Trending: Fashion Contest Hosted by the Fashion Bloggers of Spiral Knights
It was supposed to get put in with other entries, but I don't think it ever was :O
Ters couldn't get in-game, and he said for it to be judged with in-game entries.
Touchmyfrags costume was nice, he/she mixed the two Color schemes well, but.... the tall/extra tall height mod really ruined it and doesn't look nice on the angelic line :/ But maybe that's just my personal opinion.
Do you guys think I would've done better if I had put my costume: http://i.imgur.com/pVikF.jpg in a different category than badass, because near the beginning my friend suggested scary
Had this made up if I wouldn't be able to make it to the event :D
It strikes me as a general or badass entry, but a little incoherent. Heavy/volcanic bases, fancy parrying blade, unmatched sandlike brown in the feather. Blue personal colour that doesn't really get enough space on the coat to be a proper contrast, nor supports the general colourscheme where it -does- show. I don't find it terrible, but it doesn't really come together as a whole.
On another note, thank yooou for being so lovely and supportive of us. It was really very comforting to get that token of appreciation after the stress of the event. <3
I'm sad I didn't even get a mention this time around. Hell, I'm still not too sure if I even made it past the prelim. Guess my outfit is becoming lame.
Nawh, you were (fittingly) shiny. I think the blue-in-blue might've been a factor, but I can't recall the details of your look.
Yeah light, I think yours shoulda been badazz because when I see something "scary" I see something big + mean + scary. The big would be your height mod. The mean would be that thing thats on your forehead. Dunno what it is. A bolted vee/wide vee or something? The scary would be your volcanic drago wings. But hey, what do I know about fashion. Nothin.
@Pokenuevo: I only logged on like 20 minutes before the event was supposed to start, so I don't know if he mentioned that to Red or Inco, but I was not aware that we were judging any submission entries next to the in-game ones. I for one play full-screen, and would have had to be told in advance to score yours in whichever category you were entering beforehand. The in-game portion was quite cramped for time, and we wouldn't have been able to draw your entry up *during* the proceedings to judge it (which is why we'd need to have known that you were supposed to be judged with the in-game entries ahead of time). Anyway, Ters didn't tell me (again, I can only speak for myself) about anything like that, and I was under the impression that he was going to score submissions that weren't able to make it to the actual event himself separately. I'm super sorry about that mix-up, if that's the case, because I'm sure you would have done well D:
@Lightyourfire: You were, in my opinion, better off in Badass than in Scary, and really probably better off there than in General just because of the sheer crowd that ended up in General. You really did do well score-wise, comparatively. You can msg me in game for details if you want =) Also, ditto Inco on the thank you. That really did cheer me up, and I'm glad I waited to accept before I ran off to eat XD
@Inco: I like when you say incoherent. Also, don't worry, I am here now! For you to shower love upon! <3
@Guyinshinyarmor: I definitely took notice of both of your entries. You did well numerically in both categories, though we couldn't take the time to announce everyone's number score. Yours was one of the ones that made me wish we could have had less contestants and been able to spend the same amount of time we spent on the finalists on everyone. I'm a fan of 'blue-on-blue' as Inco puts it, so you would have had my vote.
@Zade:
Legit classification you've got there. :) I personally disagree with it because scary to me isn't something big and mean. It's creepy stuff, stuff I wouldn't like having in my closet. Big/mean? More of a badass thing imo. This is all subjective, though. And for the record, I don't like judging by categories, exactly because they're so subjective and potentially overlapping, but this was not set up by me. I just helped out to the best of my abilities.
"I don't know if he mentioned that to Red or Inc"
I thought we'd dropped the screenshot part due to lack of interest. Don't like that we don't seem to have a common agreement on what happened here. :(
@Inco
Oh, so it's not lame. Just forgettable. Which is lame. (You cannot win :p)
If ya meant what Vifig meant by blue-in-blue, I'll assume you mean how it was monochromatic. Well, no colour goes better with itself than itself. 'Sides, it's kinda required since the poncho is basically one giant prismatic item. :v
Sorry for misspelling your name in my last post. I just noticed you include the 'u' in armour, haha. Also, you cannot be too hard on Inco for not remembering clearly. Like has been said before, we judged over 70 knights.
@Guy
Give my head a break, it's absorbed somewhere between 70 and 100 costumes in a very short timespan. x) But yeah, it wasn't bad, it just- lacked flavour for me. (ETA: Ninja'd on the memory note by Vi. :O)
Then again, I have the backlight on my keyboard coloured purple/green/orange. I like colour variety. I like details/highlights that stand out in contrasts (possibly ironic considering 70% of the time I'm running around in a primarily grey outfit in SK). These things aside, I did give yours a high score, if that's any comfort.
Also, repeat of how subjective contests like these are. That one guy that scored 1/6/6 springs to mind. Or the 4/4/7, or 5/5/8. And 3/5/7. Differing tastes, differing scores. Averages always landing lower than the most appreciative judge's opinion.
@Vifig
They're the same word, and I did make sure to snap up the other name too. No way you could be talking about someone else. Unless you mean ShinyGuyInArmo[u]r, who may or may not exist. Maybe I should reserve that too.
And of course. That's why I was joking around, what with saying Inco can't win. :p
@Inco
Hm. Kinda wish behind-the-scenes stats were posted after the show. Or at least highlights of the more interesting splits. The 1/6/6 sure sounds like an interesting outfit.
You SHOULD snatch up ALL of those names XD
Hurry, before someone else does!
Also, we do have the stats on hand if you are interested, but I personally won't give someone's number to anyone but the person in question. And we didn't have time to take screenshots of all the contestants by any means (at least I know I didn't), so it's not like you'd have a visual to go with it ):
"You don't like the same things that I like, therefore, you have terrible taste. My opinion is absolute."
Really? Tell me about your toasty accessories on your Skolver set.
I don't see how my costume isn't beautiful-er than Touchmyfrag's (/ಠ益ಠ)/
Wolver line helms just look really awkward on anything except wolver line coats Imo.
I personally like your costume Ibubble :)
While I agree with Serell that Wolver rarely looks good, I think you made it work.
I actually like using a dusker cap with my Grey Feather Mantle.
I'm split on what to think about wolver lines but Ibubble does make them look good. vmv
To whoever got dusted away by full sets and mismatching combos: don't worry, I think this judging means nothing fashion-wise.
@Everyone: I just found another picture from the competition. It's of the guy who on badass or scary or something. The glowing blue and red don't match anywhere and the crest and the blue on the helmet seem to be from another costume.

The judges realize, I hope, that in categories such as cute or scary one's costume has to not only match the category but it also has to actually match color-wise.
I think they judged them based on how hard did the crickets outside chirp and a little on how much they matched... the category.
Finals were 100% cricket-based. 'Cept frag, I think that outfit was ok. I wasn't there to see all the other ones but maybe there was something more deserving of 1st place but eh.
I still think wolver caps look really awkward on anything but wolver coats, but I do believe Ibubble makes the wolver cap look the best without a coat.... though it's still awkward looking.
Just noticed a Snarbolax dude in one of my pictures who got past prelims with shadow extra VVs xD
@Ibubble,
Idk, your costume works. According to my notes, I rated it highest of the three of us even though I'm biased against the regal colourscheme in general. Numbers deciding, that didn't bring you over Frag.
"@Everyone: I just found another picture from the competition. It's of the guy who on badass or scary or something. The glowing blue and red don't match anywhere and the crest and the blue on the helmet seem to be from another costume."
A total of seven people were judged in the Scary category. This was not a tough category to win at all. (If curious, the other two in the top three of those seven were judged 4/6/7 and 8/5/4 - we weren't at all in agreement here, but averages spoke in Modelp's favour.)
His costume presumably got the nicest scores in the category because the overall impression is quite the monster. It didn't do well in the finals exactly because the technical aspects are not terribly well put together.
"The judges realize, I hope, that in categories such as cute or scary one's costume has to not only match the category but it also has to actually match color-wise."
This is another of those comments where I'll go "feel free to host one yourself", so you can be sure everything adheres to your personal tastes. The category winners were -primarily- judged on whether they fit the category or not. This is why the finale had wildcards in it besides category winners.
"Just noticed a Snarbolax dude in one of my pictures who got past prelims with shadow extra VVs xD"
Seconding Ters' request for sharing pics, particularly this one. I do not recall judging a vented snarb. It might well have been a random walk-in/spectator.
On the note of random walk-ins, not everyone who was judged had actually been there for the prelims. Vi originally raised the concern that people who weren't sent to us in the arcade could just pretend they were, but either Ters or Red (my memory's not sharp on who) brushed the concern aside with a comment on how someone not making it through the prelims would have next to no chance on making it in the judgings.
Just got around to uploading this combined screenshot of the General line, in case anyone wanna see the monstrous sea of people.

There I am again standing awkwardly behind Xairthan's text bubble. I always do my job :D
Thank you sooo much for dealing with all the replies Inco :) I've been busy and one part of me is just like: meeeeeehhhhh ... The event is over ... doesn't matter ... that much....
"@Red: I mean, were they judged competently or with much thought as to their CREATIVITY as opposed to the amount of CRYSTAL ENERGY that they spent in order to make the costume?"
Not sure why this was directed at Red specifically, but as for my own scores... They were given out based on how well I thought the look worked over all. I don't give a hoot whether or not something is rare, expensive, uncommon or overused. If it works as a whole visually, I'll like it.
"I liked how this event was in a public place though i got a bit of a headache trying to keep track of who was meowing.(also distracted by season 4 breaking bad on netflix) I liked the guild invite version better. Less chaos. At least i made it into the wildcards but i'll remember to wear mostly promo items next time."
1) I don't think costume contests should be held ingame at all. It gets too messy and time consuming and the idea of joining a temporary guild can be off putting.
Instead, everyone submitting a screenshot of their costume (both inspect view [possibly from several angles] and regular view) and then judges taking their -time- going over the details of everything, communicating properly... This would be nice. This would have a better ground for being fair across the board.
2) I can't remember the details of the handful of costumes I saw you in during this, but if you want, I can probably tell you some reasons why things went as they did. In the finale specifically, it was definitely a colourscheme mismatch that broke it for me (which may sound unfair given Spireo's placing, but your volcanic demo+dragon scale was, among the three of us, found less matching than his heavy demo+grey feather).
"Full Infernal Guardian ? Full Winter Accessory Set ? Seriously ? Yes, that's totally original and not pay-to-win at all.
Could as well have picked a guy in full Skolver Suit. One can see better costumes just standing at the AH for a few hours.
Thus I come to the conclusion that this contest must have been a joke to troll people who actually put some effort in their costumes."
Great. Go host one yourself to ensure a judging more appropriate to your own tastes. :P I see no reason to punish expensive accessories. Infernal Guardian is the only piece in this that -requires- purchase. And it looked nice. The "it's a set" -did- subtract from his score, but it works as a whole.
"Lou's costume was good, but I don't feel it was deserving of third place. I saw much more creative costumes out there :/"
I'll cite the time restraints and averaged scores again. There were quite a few occasions when one or two of us would really like a thing and the last be all "nay!" for one reason or another, potentially shanking some greatness after the averaging. Costume contests are a subjective type of contest. These are the results we ended up with. This time.
On a sad note, we lost track of a few people that I'd have liked to bring up when we were considering our wildcard additions to the finale. But they poofed. :( This is another reason I don't think this sort of thing works well live.
