For who wants to risk his life for higher damage, unequip shield and put another sword. So it will be 2 swords or 2 guns and no shield. Each gun with his own fire rate. Charging will be very cool :)
This will be able to choose at begining of every level together with rest of gear.

If you have any decency whatsoever, you'll graveyard this.

Dual-Wielding weapons is at the top of the unwritten "DO NOT SUGGEST" list.

This has been suggestion a trillion times, and been shot down every time. I created a thread attempting to balance it using my ingame experience and knowledge of what works and what doesn't from threads I've seen come and gone, and even then it was quite a big stretch. The truth is, this game isn't designed for that amount of sheer damage output with zero defensive ability. The shielding ability is far too crucial.

This is just as bad an idea as Pets or Energy System Removal.

Leave each player to decide

Leave each player to decide for himself if the shield is far too crucial. I am willing to leave it home for having bigger damage or damage rate. Nobody force you to leave it home, this is an option just like any other choice of gear.

When the new player starts the game, the shield isn't needed. Of course a player is going to choose two swords so they can rambo their way through things. But as they progress and reach later, more difficult levels, using the same mindset they'll die more and more, leading to miserable gameplay and hence, ragequitting.

You can't leave a player to decide if a shield is crucial or not if they never use the shield to see how crucial it actually is.
Tell me, what tier player are you, and how many times have you run a tier 2 or 3 danger room or Shadow Lair with your shield dequipped and survived?

Seriously, no monster is strong enough to demand the use of 2 weapons anyways.
Just some skolver/shadowsun and they all die in 2 seconds.

Overpowered and overkill. Completely unnecesary.

@Hexzyle please just Graveyard...

@Hexzyle

You already know if no one at all is going to agree with you... Why post it anyway if you're not going to get supported? Just get ready to get your thread bashed. ._. OOO's already thought of this anyway. How would you be a knight without a shield? You would be a rogue with two weapons in your hands. Spiral Knights wasn't made to have very complex fighting mechanics.

.

Swiftstrike is hardly comparable to noshield at all though. With a shield, no matter how crappy, you can still shield bump and shield cancel, two extremely crucial skills. Even your shield break prevents damage, and you only take a scratch, even if you're using a proto and just got smacked by a Knightmare.

Believe it or not, a possible 'choice of gear' is to have no weapons or shields equipped at all.

Doesn't make it viable.

Aside from bosses, there is no monster alive that warrants the use of firepower beyond the most specialized weapon for whichever monster it is.

Two flicks of an Acheron and Gremlins are screwed. Charge attack on a Gunpup and said turret is screwed.

Dual-wielding guns? You accepted the lower damage in exchange for range an mobility when you chose that path. The shield will be CRUCIAL in not dying.

Don't believe me? Think about the final stage of an area. That massive enemy swarm? Yeah, it won't go anywhere without a shield.

Avoid arenas then? That's not a viable argument. Don't like Gremlins? Can't avoid Rawzog; he's the first boss.

And why is it people CANNOT be bothered to search for an argument that we have already DISCUSSED and SHOT TO FIRESTORM UMPTEEN TIMES???

@Lezly:

My friend is in Ludicrous, they do many variations of Vana runs. No shield (at all, not swiftstrikes), proto armor (Not weapons obviously), and many other variations. Vanaduke is such a joke that basically any competent group can breeze past him. Ludicrous isn't even a pro guild.

@OP:

Shielding is much more effective than having a second weapon imo. For multiple reasons....

1: Shield Cancelling.
2: Shield bumping.
3: Latency issues.
4: No enemy has enough HP to warrant the use of two weapons, honestly. Like...not even Vanaduke.
5: It may not double everyone's CE spending, but some people would get duplicate 5* weapons for it. In other words, CE prices would go ridiculously high for months on end.

So, no.
