Why does OOO appear to squash and bury criticism now?

Just gonna ignore some people from now on.

@Orangeo
I see your point, generally. In this case I would say their actions are rather cowardly, so can something be demeaning if it's true? Perhaps the thing that confuses me most, and set me off in the first place, is their recent actions. No, any game worth it's salt knows how to shrug off unwarranted criticism. Crappy games will shrug off warranted as well. But OOO has never before reacted the way they did recently. They didn't even lock and GY threads back in the binding patch days when literally half the forum community went through the ceiling and was all but cussing them out.

These particular reasons they use don't make that much sense either given that this thread exists in GenDisc and was started by OOO staff:

I mean, you cannot tell me that that thread is not solely about spoilers, test server content, and getting reactions from people that have not been on the server and cannot give any feedback. But it's not ok when other people do it with things OOO knows the whole community will be against?

My two crowns?

can something be demeaning if it's true?

That's probably a bit more philosophical then intended, but I'm going to say... yes, if Three Rings aren't/weren't aware of the reasons people are demeaning them for, or they are/were and they don't/didn't want to acknowledge it. It's not as bad for the former, but the latter...

The threads getting locked were created before that particular thread... including Nick's thread about all the stuff in the test sever that was posted in GD, which seemed to snowball from there.

I'm not entirely sure why Three Rings have created this new thread, although it's probably an attempt to lessen the impact of their recent actions, although that's just speculation and probably very wrong, considering my track record.

True or not, it's debatable.

True or not, it's debatable. Some people here certainly don't think OOO is afraid of criticism. Back to the bob analogy; If I say "Why is bob a fat slob?" in the presence of people who think he isn't a fat slob, I'm jumping the gun. They're still stuck on the question "Is bob a fat slob?". If I assume that bob is and then ask why, I'm completely dodging their opinion, thus pissing them off.

I don't think all of them would get P'd off by you asking if Bob's a fat slob (that's a filtered word btw), and some of them may have reached the same conclusion as you, but for those still wondering if he is a fat slob would probably consider the fact that he might lock and graveyard them if they say anything.

... Seriously though, one has to wonder why, in this historic time of the forum's life, the GMs locked and graved a dozen threads, including one or two that didn't have anything to do with the test server, assuming Randomzz is right about the binding update backlash. That said, I don't know when the binding patch was done, despite a couple of searches on Google.

@Grave post #52-
The threads getting locked were created before that particular thread
Granted, but that's part of what's off about it to me. You lock a ton of threads doing exactly the same thing, and then you turn around and do it yourself? It's like a cop arresting someone he personally saw shoplifting from a gas station and then slipping some twinkies in his pocket on his way out the door with the perp.

@Grave and Orange over true/demeaning-
I suppose that's true. While I agree with Grave that not everyone would get upset, and more than a few probably agree with my statement already, I won't deny that the title of my thread probably caused this one to pop up without him reading any of my post: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/83706

I'll change the title to something a little less opinion stated as fact, tell me how it works for you

@Grave post #54-
That said, I don't know when the binding patch was done, despite a couple of searches on Google.
From these threads it would have occurred the night of May 17, 2011:

http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/8736

Edit: The date stamps will be a bit messed up on some of the previous posts now. Apparently I'm disturbing the snipes so I'll tone a few posts down a bit, or try to.

Haha, you actually changed

Haha, you actually changed it? Alright then. I was speaking on more of a "next time" level. I guess not throwing around the word "afraid" is a good thing. Thought it's kinda... long... heh.

Have you seen that episode of south park where Cartman gets to do the morning announcements? He'll take his opinion "I think Wendy is a blank blank blank", word it as fact, "Wendy is a blank blank blank", then add a question word to disguise the fact that it's opinion worded as fact " "Why is Wendy is a blank blank blank?". That way people don't think "Is she a blank?", they think "Why is she a blank?", causing them to assume that she is indeed a blank, even though her blank status is what is under speculation. What would be accurate would be "Is Wendy a blank blank blank?", followed by an answer with supporting facts.

Sorry to be critical, I'm rambling for the sake of explaining myself accurately, not because your title is worth paragraphs of my complaints. Also, apologies for comparing you to Cartman in an analogy.

I don't know why Wendy is a blank blank blank, but I found out why Bob's a fat slob: He didn't hear those all-important character building words when he needed to.

On a more serious note, and along the lines of censors, I have to wonder why that P word hasn't been edited by a GM, while a word I used was equal (or lesser?) in offensiveness in another thread (i.e.: not offensive to anyone who's head is screwed on correctly) was censored within the day?

In case anyone's wondering, I used that alternative word to backside.

@Orange
It's fine haha. Also, just because I happen to disagree with several things going on doesn't mean I'm not open to valid arguments. I saw your point, so I changed it. Granted it is kinda wordy, I couldn't think of much to rename this to xD.

@Grave
/shrug. I apparently said some things that broke forum rules that quite honestly were pretty mild (even compared to other comments I made in the same thread), but some guy going around calling people idiots and sissies is apparently ok. The forum staff is a very peculiar breed that takes a lot to figure out how they think and of what they approve/disapprove. If you find some sort of guide, like ye ol Nintendo Power for OOO GM's, let me know.

I also find it rather ironic after I made the point about them discussing the ultimate skills in GenDisc... it was moved to Testing Feedback. Now do I think they moved it because of me, no. It is funny though.

It's really such a nice

It's really such a nice game... I'm sure the game masters would respond to player suggestions and criticisms if they didn't risk getting under fire from OOO. OOO, why are you doing this?

Thanks for the guide offer, but I think I'll be okay with just sticking to the rules, and avoiding words that are filtered. Hopefully they won't mind me partially censoring a ton of bad words with asterisks, although...

It did cross my mind. Also note in the same thread was a post that said that there wasn't any reason to move the thread, but I'll link to the first relevant post .

Obvious stuff is obvious....

Seriously. If the developers didn't do [edited] stuff like buff the already strong brandishes (If someone thought brandishes were ever underpowered, then that person is a [edited]), and did more cool stuff like prestige missions and new (not OP) weapons, they wouldn't get so much hate.

New weapons! New levels! More balance! (insert more blatantly obvious player wants here)!

herp derp

(We'll see if this upcoming update adds anything new they they didn't mention. Hoping (probably in vain) so!

Edited to remove personal attacks and language.

@Oat
With all the previous instances of community upheaval, OOO merely ignored the crap out of it. Your shard bomb thread, Zeddy's, all the binding batch stuff, all the pages of negative UI feedback, everything. They just let the threads die on their own after everyone finally figured out OOO didn't care and won't ever move an inch from their great Plan, because the devs -one in particular- is clearly all knowing and can comprehend things that we mere mortals can't.

This is the first time, though, that they've actively shut down threads and squashed the community response. That I remember.
