IGN: Same as here.
Possibly my most memorable is soloing Darkfire Citadel for the first time.
The Story:
From my screenshots i took on that day, i believe this happened on the 16th of October 2012. Now this was WAY back before i had this richy costume i have today, i had only 100-200K crowns at most of the time and i lacked weapons. I cannot remember what guild i was in at the time but i do know it wasn't Impervious, i believe i was in Skybreakers at the time. This was also the time i kept paying monthly for a Elevator Pass and before i started playing Team Fortress 2.
It all begun while i was looking for recipes from Basil at Depth 23, two more people were with me at the time. i do not remember what i was after but a guildmate of mine was after Voltaic Tempest recipe which i would glady kept a eye out for, sadly he didn't have it this time. However, then came that moment that changed my life in SK forever.
Before we were about to head back up. a person in Vog joined a party, i thought i first that he was after recipes but Basil won't sell you any if you join the Terminals directly and that he didn't know that, oh how wrong i was at that moment. Once the Vog person finished loading, he went right for the Darkfire Citadel gate and before my very eyes, he opened it.
I couldn't believe it, a random person joining a random party and opening a Shadow Lair. At first, i thought this was a very bad idea he was doing and should of made his own party with his friends or guildmates. I talked to him a bit that is he completely sure about this as it could be a waste of a Shadow Key, i didn't get a reply on the latter bit but the former, he said we should give it a go.
Before we went, i had to decide on a loadout as i had not made a loadout for Darkfire Citadel. It was hard but i came up with this set: Unheated Heavenly set, Combuster. Blitz Needle, Barbarous Thorn Blade, Argent Peacemaker and 2x Soaking Wetstone Pendants.
And so we went down the elevator, towards Vanadukes cursed citadel now taken a turn for the worse by the Swarm. So far, the run went good but the Vog guy did the unthinkable: He left after his first death by the wheel traps. This was a huge shock, now only 3 of us remained. Not long after, another one left after he died a second time from a zombie. Now it was only me and the other guy who was in Ash Tail.
We make it to the front doors of the citadel but we were caught completely off guard by the respawning Howlitzers, this resulted in the Ash Tail guy dying and me on low health. Although i somehow clear the first wave of zombies, the wave with the two Almirian Shadow Guards got me as i was pushed in a corner and died. The death counter started and now i had to think what to do.
At that moment, the Ash Tail guy left. Unbelievable, all three of them left as if they ragequitted but i didn't because i was extremely determined to clear the Shadow Lair. Now i had to make a decision: Give up and leave or try and go on by myself.
I decided to do what i have never do before: continue on by myself in a Shadow Lair, taking on those guards again. After much baiting, i get them both down without alerting the Howlitzers this time around. I go on to claim my prize but i wasn't gonna stop there yet. No, i was gonna try to do the rest of the citadel by myself. So, i went down to Charred Court.
There like in the normal citadel, the sprite was there asking for six of his friends to be saved and brought to the fountain in the middle of the court so they can bring water into the citadel to clear the shadow fire. But this court was different, i heard a lot of rumors that this version of Charred Court was easier then the normal citadel.
That turned out to be half true, some of the rooms were completely nightmarish while others were much easier then normal. Regardless, i clear the floor no problem but one thing caught me completely by surpise: The trap at the fountain.
Upon placing the six sprite at the fountain, a horde of monsters appeared, including two trojans and some alpha wolvers. However, i defeat them no problem and continue on my way, reporting my progress to my guildmates.
Now i was at the Ashen Armory, this has gone the biggest change in the citadel. The first room was as normal, only this time, the spikes were at the outer rims instead. I get killed twice in the last wave by the Almirian Shadow Guards as they pushed me into the spikes but i got back up again and again, resulting in three deaths total.
The next bit was somewhat tricky, you are now forced to do both sides as the right button has been buried in planks of wood. The rooms themselfs have gone the biggest changes, i end up nearly dying to another Almirian Shadow Guard but finished him off before he got me first. The Trojans in the second to last room were tricky to defeat, not because they were hurting me, they were half of the time on the fire traps which i feared would come on at any moment. So i lured them to the outer bits and killed them.
I clear the room with the totems no problem and head on my way, now i was almost there to Vanaduke himself as i now head down to Smoldering Steps. Somehow by pure luck, i cleared both of the battle rooms but end up nearly dying in both of them. Now my greatest challenge awaited me in the Throne Room: Lord Vanaduke himself, now known as Darkfire Vanaduke.
Due to the Swarm Seed, i had to bait Vanaduke to the outer rims of the arena so i could get Blitz Needle charges in but had to deal with the zombies first. The 2nd phase took a long time but still cleared it and damaged his mask. Vanaduke catches me completely off guard of what he summons: 4 zombies and 2 Almirian Shadow Guards.
Because of the guards, i didn't want to risk Blitz Needle charge shots so i spammed my AP at him and a mix of normal Blitz Needle shots. I get killed when he gets me in a corner but i got up again, the 4th death now. I cleared that phase but i had to kill the zombies and guards first before i could even focus on the mask which took much longer then i expected.
Now it came to the final phase, i was extremely hot, my heart was pounding, so close to my goal. After much more baiting, one of the guards got lucky and killed me in a corner, this pressed my Berserk Button. Enraged, i immediately get back up and started spamming Blitz Needle charge shots at Vanaduke, in a last ditch effort to down him. With just two charged shots, He falls.
The fight had lasted a whole hour but it was finally over, i couldn't move for a few minutes after Vanaduke fell, seeing what i have just achieved, but it wasn't over. One more challenge there was: The Unknown Passage.
Collecting my prizes, i go down to my final challenge. There the Swarm waited and sent it's endless horde of corrupted monsters at me. Holding them off long enough, the gates opened and i ran for my life. The last gates awaited me as the Swarm sends in it's most powerful units.
I get killed again, not once but twice by the slimes spamming thorns, fueling my anger even more. Finally, after a few minutes of fighting, running and dodging, the final gate opened as the monsters made one last effort to take me into the darkness of the Swarm. Ran as i did and there, hope awaited.
There it was, a lone elevator with just a blank white picture. I jump on and taken away from this dreadful darkness.
There i was, a place of hope and freedom: The Sanctuary.
Collecting my final Echo Stone and reading it's contents, i felt drawn to the place and refused to leave for a hour or so, until i finally decided to head back up and meeting my friends again. There my adventure ends, having done that very few have done: Soloing a Shadow Lair.
To this day, this was my greatest experience in Spiral Knights and i hope to find more amazing experiences like this, thank you for reading my story.
I've been playing T2 LD for a long time now, so I have plenty of good memories of funny shenanigans or intense matches. However, my favorite memory, was easily the 3 man shard blitz we had before the update. Because it was T2, and not T3, I rarely saw bombers around. Mainly because at that time, T2
was A LOT more competitive, and thus bombing was a lot harder. But this match I just so happened to see not one, but two other shard bombers on my team. We immediately knew what must be done. Three man Shard Blitz. The shear amount of projectiles on the screen and the amount of power we had when we were together had me laughing the entire match. We were facing a team on pretty decent wolver clones. We dominated. It was pretty awesome.
