Fair enough, but note something: My boys are killing people not taking hostages. With the exception of those who aren't on the list, the ones how are are quiet dead. Still that being said, there is not panic or anything in the Order yet. Hell this wouldn't really cause a panic, more like a moment for people to gather arms. And no Guild has been found out or framed for the attack. Everything has been done swift and deliberate. The only ones who know its another guild attacking are the Watch, and the ones who highered the Watch. Its going to be difficult to get the Watch to talk (since of loyaty and all that non-since) followed by the fact this has yet to even leave the Spades' hall. So far all communications to the outside world have been shut off and the Operator has closed down comms. chatter to a secure channel.

Contrived point out of the way I am glad to see people coming to the main plot. But now THINSLAYER has to start posting because I am waiting on him. Sorry to say it mate but my end can't progress because your the only other one I can interact with at this point.

@Liminori

You're in the special detachment the Queen of Spades sent to lock down the guild hall. I wouldn't say you're unnecessary.

Sorry.

Ugh. I'm not cut out for these kinds of RPs. Does anyone want to take my place as GM for the game? I can brief the new GM on the planned story and plot twists if necessary.

Is there no way past the speed bump? Maybe we could finally call upon the ever-waiting fate points for this slowdown?

No there is not for the bump in this case is the GM who is currently done with Forum. It make since, we can only go so far before we have to give up now the problem comes down to this you need to make things happen in the moment. Thinslayer is a very good story teller and yarn spinner but there is one problem I can feel no shame in saying and sorry to him for placing this over his head since I am still some what new.

He lacks the ability to keep forward progression, in other words the narrative of the story is good, hell that is what got our attention was the story and the 'idea' behind the story. But there in lies the problem with the answer. He got stage one correct; the draw, but some where between stage one and two he lost us and himself. Writer's block maybe but still we need to carry on. But in this cause I don't believe its writer's block so much as it is Boredom with the repetitive motions he has been taking.

Take for a moment if you will, we all join he sets up the events like a good DM should. However some where between the lines some one stepped too far out and instead of correcting the problem themselves he has to step in and correct it to get the narrative of the story flowing again. That stated too he gets to the point where he sees more then one problem going on and instead of trying to sit and fix everything that is wrong with it, he instead finds that its getting to the point that people as well are waiting on him to do something or make a move based on our actions. Don't get me wrong a DM needs to do this but most times the Story has already told us where and what we are going to do. A Free ranged thing like this that has a little directive in the first place leaves us with open ended choice's and makes it to where anyone can come and destroy the motion of the train.

Let me make myself a little clearer.(Yes bad use of grammar) For instance, my group decides to just straight up attack some one because we want them gone or some other reason in the story that happened because Thinslayer or the current DM didn't know about. Not a OOC being bright into IC but something that happened and now has caused us to be in this engagement. Since the story didn't say this would happen we have to work around it and work it into the story line where the person dies or has more mental scars then he should. This means that we created something that shouldn't have happened because the story said it didn't need to happen. However in a Free ranged thing like this that will happen and if your trying to narrate a story then this is not the style you want since it will brake the flow and pacing of the story in general.

That being stated I can rest easy saying this Thread is dead in the water and Thinslayer should graveyard it and we all work on something else. Not saying Free range is bad, just saying that Free range requires a level of DMing that is currently not able to be done.

Uhm...

So... Is this my fault for going after the contracters, or is this due to the sudden creation of a new character who just kinda popped out of nowhere?
(.________.)

Also, what do you mean by Free Range?

A few details

I don't think it's your fault, Liminori. You haven't had much of a chance to do anything, let alone anything disruptive. I think the fault is mostly mine for being unclear about where everyone is located, and it's biting me in the butt now. That, and I don't have a proper strategy in place for keeping the Spades alive. They'll need a two-pronged approach: first, they need to contain the Darkwatch. But I can't even begin to write about it until I know exactly where everyone is located, which I don't yet. Second, they need their guild master to negotiate peace and convince Skotino that all is not as it seems. But I don't have the prerequisite story elements in place to make that happen, and I don't know what I need to do.

The final problem is the game system. It feels pointless.

In short, I'm stuck, with no easy way out.

May I?

Can I draw the layout of the guild, give it to you, and have you put each character where you need them?
As I recall, I was moving away from the guild hall, But not out of the guild. So that means Left, Right, Or forward.

Remember what you have people playing your thread for. :P

Edit II: More importantly, How big is it? Does it have specific aspects to it? Perhaps it has bookcase levers, or the stairs have doors in front of them?
Edit III: It does kind of feel pointless here, but it does stop powerplay, or endless battles; with luck. However, if you feel like you don't need it, toss it.

@Liminori: It'd be simpler if I just told you where I last knew everyone to be. Darkwatck probably has a better grasp of their locations than I do anyway, so I'd recommend getting his help instead.

I recognize that some people are here for the game+story; taking out the game might ruin it for them. I don't think discarding the system is a viable option.

The guild hall is basically a standard Spiral Knights guild hall. If you've ever been to EoS gh, imagine that, but more practical, with precious few decorations.

Let me give you my boys current location as related to the map that was given above.

Units 1-8 (The Vets that are all using Stealth gear currently breaking out the person of interest) are currently located at 3-D the group just busted down the door and are removing said VIP to the Extraction which is located outside of the Spades' guild hall into the hands of Agents ready to return the VIP to the contracter.

Skotino and the woman who is in overwatch with him are currently in the Console room, located directly bottom right and bottom left looking around the corner getting ready to adress the group who just walked in and spotted the dead guards. Now, he is going to try and sneak behind or around the corner and uncloak to gain there trust since he has on a Costume looking like a Five Star Cobalt Armor.

Wait a sec...

Is there anything I should know about the spades uniform?
I mean, I won't change the post I'll make, but still, Should I know things like;
Specific uniform,
A badge to confirm guild,
or any specific mandatory accessories?

Not that my character will know the difference... Right?

While the Spades do have uniforms, they never wear them. It's officially silver-white armor with decorative blue cloth and a black Spade for their coat of arms. Males wear the brigandine, females wear the armored battle dress.

But like I said, they rarely wear their uniforms. Most of the Spades prefer gunslinging armor; Astran, for example, wears Shadowsun. The few swordsmen among them prefer modified Skolver or Snarbolax.

Example
Name: Selvaria
Appearance
Affiliation: Spades
Role: Squad Leader
Equipment: Skolver (armor); Heavenly Iron (costume); GOS; DA; AP
Personality & Bio: Despite her sweet-looking exterior, she's tough as nails and a powerful foe to reckon with. She has a good grasp of squad tactics and a surprising familiarity with physics, which produces a number of interesting battlefield decisions.

FYI, I've been long planning for this character to be the one holding the line against the Darkwatch invasion.

Well you better do something because so far they have just ransacked most of the guild hall and are about to bug out with the VIP. Your inactivity has cost you the lives and heads of most the spades' at the moment.

Most of the Spades were not in the guild hall at the time of the attack. That was kinda the point of the battle scene - to show where they all were. That's not to say the Darkwatch didn't make a notable dent in the Spades' numbers, but it's an overstatement to say you got 'most' of them.

Last head count you stated around 4-5 people where in the group. Now you also stated this group had a connection to the SK's main arsonal which means they are large in numbers and have some political sway. Its hard to get an idea of how many people are on your side when I am getting the feeling you have so little with you. Now if you change something to state the guild hall was empty at the time (aka post something) I would have worked something into one of my post to off set the fact it was so easy to just get in and take them down. Added onto the black out.

Yes I realize I did put you on a spot with the blackout giving my boys a bit of an advantage when it comes to the sneak in. Now unless you can start saying something the Operator can hear since he is currently moderating the communications so he can hear you're entrance team. Best case would be to start talking to something that would make Skotino stop and think. So far he is just doing this for the money/because soemthing doesn't feel right and he wants to see the truth right now.

There were about 5 squads of 4 men each in the guild hall, all under the command of Selvaria. Two of those squads were wiped out by the Darkwatch. The guild has about 20 high-ranking members and about 200 lesser members; roughly 100 of these were out on a mission, and about 50-80 of the remainder are doing business in town.

The least amount in the guild

The least amount in the guild hall is 40, and the most is 70.
I'd say there are about 50, Including Amber and everyone else.

Then the blackout would have saved them from too much since they went about doing subterfuge instead of going loud and trying to take everyone on. Subtlety is king when trying to extract some one.

Still I guess as far as it stands they would have removed a good 10/20 of the current memeber's in the guild trying to get to the MVP to remove. Still as stated before, Skotino is waiting to see what will happen since the Extraction team needs to meet up with Skotino before moving on.

Well, I feel like we've got almost all we need to continue, but I still feel stuck.
Maybe it's something about actually doing something about it, instead of trying to plan.
However, I'm not really the best when it comes to fix a gap in roleplays... Otherwise, they just end up... *Poof*

The thing that will bring this together is this:

  • Start bring people together for a moment or at least have PC's try and come together to figure out what is going on. This includes those who are not part of the Spades' and the Watch.
  • Second It would have been smarter for PC's to have been in one of the two major groups fighting at the moment. It would cut down on losses in story and also give people some sort of system to follow.
  • Third is a system inside the system that keeps people from getting too far off course. Thing the Operator who is currently giving out order's from the higher ups. He has access to the network systems allowing him to get in and talk to people and fill them in with information.
  • Lastly we should rethink this 'free range' style which should follow a bit of form which gives others a since of direction to follow.

That's my thoughts :/
