Did I miss something here?
I'm talking about the Shadow Lairs. What are they?
They're coming soon to a Spiral Knights near you!
sounds like new T3 content with new prizes
im thinking Hard Mode
Now I'm curious, Eury. :C
I must know more!
Heck, that crusader armor makes it worth getting repeatedly mauled by Vana by it's looks alone.
Looks awesome Eury just dont work yourselves too hard now ;D
I'm so going to force Gkku to buy that Arcane Salamander suit.
Remember this...The boss are even harder...
this is how i feel right now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxBbbg2HI4w&feature=related
Mercurial demo...I think I'm going to need that. All of it. Hoping for at least med ctr on it though.
Looking foward to this ....
*edit a day later:
After being enlightened by the player base, what you are are actually doing, OOO, this is very disappointing.
God damn it Three Rings, I wasn't even given enough time to heat my new gear!
But wow this was fast. I just hope you balanced (and programmed, too!) those levels PROPERLY this time!
oh who am I kidding this is going to be so broken for the first week
Take a look: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Shadow_Lair_Overview
AWW CRAP! You need Shadow Keys.. which come from IRON LOCKBOXES D:<
this is how i feel now...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmaY_6gkbpU
whoops sorry just paste and copy that link i guess :P
Thanks King-Tinkinzar
WTB Shadow key
Hopefully they have a promotional package that will give be like $20 for 7.5K CE & 200 silver keys. Maybe more. Like, 2,000.
I was hoping for an Arcane Salamander Suit to go with my Dread Skelly Mask... but I guess it's not happening lol
For those that tested parts of this content earlier- there's much more in store for you for the official release!
Do you need a shadow key every time you go in or just the first time to unlock the gate?
Each visit requires the party use one Shadow Key.
The other day I was wondering how we would get to the Ultimate bosses. I thought...
Maybe the entrance will be at the end of the normal boss. Geez, hope not. T1 here we come!
Maybe there will be a special place you pay 500 CE to get get in. Heh... no way, that's silly...
Maybe they'll open the elevator to the left of Basil that'll just go to the gate-appropriate ult boss? Yeah, that sounds like it would work.
>_<
Assuming that current wiki content is authorative, it sounds like a shadow key is needed everytime.
Sounds like it will be best to be in a guild to run these things, or be familiar with each other, since a random pub won't work well.
People may need to pay a fee to the person who uses shadow key to share the costs.
People who only go solo, or don't like communicating with others and just join random pubs and hack & slash away may not like this....
Assuming that current wiki content is correct....
Interesting. I am intrigued!
Shouldn't the Clearance Level 1 at least be Depth 29? Someone who can make it to Basil but not the Core in a party is going to get pwned by Rabid Snarby.
Do you have to have clearance to get a shadow key? Or is it totally random?
@ reading that you need silver keys to open lockboxes to get Shadow Keys:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_HwzO2uqVs
I love the new content... but please... please god no keys.
You have to spend 750 CE to get a CHANCE at getting a shadow key from an Iron Lockbox? And you need 1 key each time you visit the Shadow Lairs? No thanks.
Just read the overview.
No. Just. No.
For god's sake Three Rings. This is nothing but an insulting, ridiculous and pathetic money grab.
I'm not going to be paying ridiculous amounts of money to access what might be overly difficult content (not to say most of it is more likely to be the boss dungeon "remakes") for just new armor. Doesn't even matter if this armor is ridiculously overpowered - This is just freaking insulting. If this was a god damn one time thing it'd even be fine. But seriously? Using one key every single run? When it's more likely that the dungeon will be ridiculously overpowered and difficult without any training, which might mean we'll be dying countless times and have to redo it several times before we do it properly? God DAMN.
...sorry for the anger. But seriously, this is just plain outrageous. It's like the Auction House patch all over again, except much, much worse.
I guess it doesn't cost to ask, though;
Is there going to be any way to permanently have access to Shadow Lairs?
Are the crown/heat rewards any better than in the test server?
Is it harder/easier?
Does it cost any additional energy to delve?
and... what will be the revive prices? T3-based?
Are boss types dictated by the boss of that same gate? (Gate w/ jelly boss = Shadow lair ice queen, etc.)
Or does any T3 terminal have access to any type of boss?
How do you ensure that a person with a shadow key can ensure that everyone in the party has clearance for that shadow lair (e.g., ice queen stratum, party of 4, all say they have clearance, but one doesn't) What happens to that person?
In the towns, a person without clearance cannot pass the mist wall. Is there something similar there?
I suppose these questions will be answered when the content is released... lol
Ugh, keys. Well, my opinion of this update has just suffered a sudden change, to say the least.
I mean, it's ok to keep it to cosmetic stuff but this is kinda iffy.
Went from extremely excited to extremely disappointed in record time, all in a single thread.
well, there goes the big suprise. But the snarby clothes rock!
@Oakgear
At least you need only ONE key for the party :D
Ahaha actually having to buy to be able to access the endgame. How greedy can you people get?
Shadow keys... Welp, guess that's a pile of content I'll never see.
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Shadow_Lair_Overview
So the Ice queen conquers pink, gooey royalty ..... Its Fionna and Cake all over again!!!!
Also, is there going to be any other way to get shadow keys? There should be an alternate (even if expensive) method to getting them. Like Krogmo, or trading Almiran seals for it.
If shadow keys are out of reach for you currently, then that means there are still plenty of other things within reach of you, namely the rest of the game content currently released.
New content of the past, such as T1 & T2 bosses (snarby & twins) were not sufficient for many T3 players who have beaten FSC many times. Accessories were hardly "new" game content, but just something on the side. The requirement of the shadow keys makes it a bit more of a challenge to make the rewards; this should make it more valuable for whomever is able to get it.
I guess it just depends on how common the shadow keys are from lockboxes. I guess lockbox prices will rise now..
It's an amazing free game, but spend some real money too. They deserve it. I've learned to trust that these guys know what they're doing far more than we do. I just continue to be impressed with what the entire staff at Three Rings is capable of producing.
A significantly greater number of players are currently sporting accessories than have ever actually opened a lockbox. There is no reason that Shadow Keys will be any different.
fire tiles around the elevators... they're already harder than the rest of the clockworks from the get go.
Biznasty said all that is needed to be said.
Hell no, I am not paying energy for a chance to get a CHANCE at the level...
I like arenas, you get harder difficulties at the risk of dying and losing energy, and the reward is crowns and more stuff.
But paying energy for a chance at a key from an iron lockbox so you can run a shadow lair which is HARDER than T3, which people who have not done the test server will have virtually NO IDEA what to expect. And what do we get? Better gear of which some of it looks absolutely horrid? I don't know the stats of these things, but it can't be worth this much for gear.
OOO, you are going to be losing a lot of players on this update if you do not reconsider the process of getting to the Shadow Lair. We will not be paying that much just to fight in the Clockworks. Those who do have too much money on their hands.
Good fight OOO. You lost my support of you.
That's pretty lame that you need a key every time especially since getting a key is random. Would rather that it require everyone in the party to have a key to unlock the gate once or each tier in the gate once.
Good accessories each cost more than the keys that opened them, so therefore there's no reason to believe that Shadow Keys will be priced lower than the Silver Keys themselves. Unless getting Shadow Keys is really common (it probably won't because you spend more money by opening more lockboxes) then they won't be priced lower than the Silver Keys themselves.
The message is that you have to pay 750 CE to do a really unfun "ultimate" area that is in reality just a bunch more enemies thrown into the same level. It's basically pay-to-play endgame in a semi-F2P game and it makes no sense and is just absolutely greedy.
e: just to expand on what Scarred-Knight said earlier, you should probably rework your whole design philosophy around this. Want to do the second and third parts of an arena? Make those customers pay! 3 energy to go past each gate... wait, no, the rewards are too great! 5 energy at the least! And bump up gate prices to 20 CE, nobody will notice with the wool over their eyes! How else can you make money.... 1k CE crafting cost for 5* weapons? After all, everybody wants 5* weapons at some point!
Somebody still needs to use real money to buy the CE needed for the Silver keys, and the chance of getting the Shadow key from the boxes is significantly lowered by the chance of getting an accessory. Their price will most likely be extremely high.
ya the fact the dev team isnt being paid nearly enough to do their job
