Give it one more try guys. Who knows how deadly is that laser. Another intel in your pocket. :)
Choose Your Adventure, Pick Your Path! [The Gremlin Spy] - Completed
C gets the most votes!
We have reached 200 posts (hooray)! Thank you once more for contributing, but the adventure is still yet to end!
Against all will, you decide to head back to the laboratory again. You try to find the scientist you met earlier, but he is nowhere to be seen.
“Are you trying to find the mineral specialist?” one of the scientists replies as you question him of the specialist’s whereabouts, “Oh, he’s busy right now, dealing with a talking Kleptolisk accident. You can get more mineral samples over there, but take only one. Sorry for the inconvenience.” He grins briefly at you before he resumes minding his work.
You will have to pick the minerals you need by yourself now. Aside from the Crimsonite, which other mineral will you choose? Remember that the combination should concentrate on the laser beam’s firing power.
(You can read the spreadsheet again here: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Mineral#Mineral_Types )
A- Valestone
B- Luminite
C- Dark Matter
Let's go with Luminite for Zeal factor: Valestone contains the essence of all natural life, and lasers are anything but natural, and while Dark Matter is full of chaos, I think that's balanced by the nothingness and wouldn't get us far.
Going with tevokkia! B shall be bit *erhemm* it
Two votes against one, and you picked B! Better hope the second time's the charm!
After you get the Luminite sample, you take quite a while to look for Elliot. Apparently, he is surprised to see you searching for him. Just as you move forward to greet him, he lays down a stack of papers and wipes the sweat off his forehead. "Good sir, you're back! I really do hope you bring good news this time."
You hand him the Luminite sample. "Ah, a mineral for me again?" Elliot raises his eyebrows in slight astonishment, "And I'd thought you've given up, just like I did! Well, an opportunity presented by itself... Won't hurt to give it another try, I suppose. Come, come." He beckons you to follow after him, probably to the machine again. "Is this Luminite truly pure? We don't want it tainted by any foreign specimens, especially Dark Matters. They're opposing minerals, with opposite powers. We certainly don't want both of them to get close together."
Before the machine, Elliot replaces the Moonstone shard with the new Luminite, leaving behind the red Crimsonite in place. He flicks around with the usual controls, and, after adjusting the final setting, mutters to you, "Hope this works." Finally, he pulls down the trigger lever.
The device beeps for a second, and you stare hard through the glass at the minerals, keeping your fingers crossed and eagerly wishing for something to happen. Before you can imagine what happens next, everything around you turns white. You realise that it is the minerals releasing a blinding light, but strangely your eyes don't hurt from looking directly at it.
"This isn't just light, sir! It's something else!" Elliot speaks, his voice shaking bewilderedly. "Look!"
As your eyes start to accustom themselves to the brightness, you spot a straight, luminous line inside the device, with such brilliancy it glows pure white. Even the whole contraption is humming with raw power. Everything happens for just a few seconds before the light vanishes, leaving behind nothing but an empty, silent machine.
The workers who were standing around, witnessing everything, stay rooted at their feet, their eyes staring wide. "Did you see that? Did you see that!!" Elliot, the first one speaking, starts to jump in excitement, "That thing! That bright thing... is the most powerful laser beam ever created... by the gremlins! We did it!"
Everyone begins to shout and cheer and shake hands, some roaring cheers for the King, others bring out whatever drinks they're holding and toast each other. It was truly a miracle, and you would even swear you've seen nothing as brilliant and amazing as this invention.
Elliot switches off the machine and opens it, and indeed, there is nothing left inside where the minerals were. "The reaction consumed every single bit of the minerals, unleashing clean and effective energy... and truly devastating." He holds your hand and shakes them excitedly, "Thank you again so much, kind sir! I'm truly grateful for your gratitude. Your kindness is beyond anything I've ever seen, or felt, from anyone around here... No one here had given me a single lending hand, not even one..." Elliot's words wander off, and he seems to look into the far distant space. You can even imagine his thoughts drifting far away along with his empty stare.
He turns back to face you, "You helped me not just once, sir, but twice. Who are you exactly? You don't seem to be one of us... Are you from the orders of the Grand Arsenal? Or are you something else? A wanderer? A stranger?..." Elliot trembles as he try to keep eye contact with you, "Why... why have you come to this wretched place? Why... who... who are you?"
A- Tell Elliot your true identity and your assigned mission.
B- Deny every suspicion Elliot has made, and keep your current identity as the guard.
C- Hide and eliminate* Elliot in secret to prevent him from further making and spreading any conspiracies.
*In other words, destroy/kill
/agree Infurnus-Dragneel
Edit: You continued a minute before I posted. -_-
New one is B
You can still get valuable info off him, so keep your guard identity
Note that a new chapter will be posted daily, after a majority vote is reached. Actually, I've delayed posting the 22nd chapter for a few hours. My apologies, if I caused any inconvenience.
Well, better be quick if you wanna make your answer count! ;)
For what I'd do personally, I'd most likely choose A, but I also know that it places much trust in Elliot. If there was only a way to keep the "identity" while affirming his accusations, because that would help both in the investigation as well as by keeping us anonymous. Alas!
So, I'll go with A. I trust this Elliot, and I think he'd be a useful asset to our mission...even if it gets us in trouble. :P
We should trust him! He seems reasonable in fact that we helped him a lot!
You have to trust people in your life, it will make you go far.
Did we all forget Kevier inside the backpack?
Edit: besides, I'm already a step ahead of myself if anything bad is going to happen >:3
Poor, poor Kevier... hiding in that backpack for so long, all for the sake of the mission. But don't worry, he won't be staying inside there for long ;)
A step ahead of yourself, eh? I'll wish you all the best for your future plans! :)
But don't tell Elliot in such a public place. Intel sharing is one-to-one business.
Poor Kevier is going to be furious with us. And am I the only one who wishes that we could confirm his suspicions of us not being a guard by giving him a bunk story that won't totally screw up our mission?
Guess I need to think about whether to risk our lives or alienate a potential ally for a bit longer .... XP (C is not an option).
That was exactly what I was thinking prior to posting...however, there isn't a third option there. I'd rather tell him and get kicked out than lie and potentially lose a powerful ally.
After all, that's how we met Kevier! :)
@Kanoka & Tevokkia
Sorry for not giving enough choices for you to pick from, I'll try to be more comprehensive next time :)
You make the ultimate choice of revealing everything to Elliot, that you are an outcast of Emberlight, a spy sent on a mission to disclose the secrets of the Arsenal, and in fact, not a guard on duty at all.
Elliot takes in every word you say, not believing anything at first, remarking once in a while with something like "You must be joking" or "Good Cradle!". But soon, he stops smiling in amusement, "Great Cradle! For goodness sake, you, an outcast, infiltrated this dangerous place all by yourself? What... a Knocker is with you? The knights sent you? I... I can't believe it!..." His face turns pale and you doubt he can remain standing for good. Before he can faint, you grab hold of his arms and bring him to a private spot.
"My apologies, old age gets into me often..." Elliot smiles weakly, "Well... you brave little young 'un... I admire your remarkable courage and strength. Indeed, the Grand Arsenal is dangerous, even more dangerous than anything else constructed in history. Project R is a meagre joke compared with it. It really is important for everyone - knights and gremlins - to know about the Arsenal's pressence. Why, I could've brought you to the guards, or even kill you by myself! But no... I have heart for the outcast; Seerus is a mad gremlin at work, not to mention the King." You can imagine Elliot spitting to the ground at that last statement, but he's probably too polite for that. "A lot of us are brought here by force; forced to work, forced to build, forced to invent mad inventions... My young one, get all the information you can to the knights, let them put a stop to this Arsenal, for we alone cannot overthrow Seerus by our own hands." Elliot salutes you, "Of course, I'm glad to be of service, in case you need any."
Just as he finishes speaking, you notice your backpack shaking around by itself, only that it's Kevier again. "Did you forget about me?" the Knocker squeaks, clearly very annoyed, "Why on Cradle did you tell everything to that old guy?! Can we really trust him? He's just a sick technician!"
"Oh, so that's your Knocker companion?" Elliot chuckles briskly, "You remind me of my children, when I was an outgoing man out there..."
"Good thing he's an ally... or I will leave you for good! Alone!" Kevier continues to shriek, "And you'll cry over your mistake! While I'll be in Emberlight, safe and-"
"Incoming transmission. Incoming tranmission." you hear a muffled sound calling out inside your backpack. Kevier rolls his eyes before he reaches in and pulls out a communication device.
"A message from Kora." Kevier hands over the device to you, "I think we're pretty much done for now."
[Continued at next post]
You click on a button to initiate the transmission. After a short static, you hear Kora's voice transmitting through the device, "Greetings, soldier. We've just detected that construction activity in the Arsenal is starting to cease. If you are inside the Arsenal right now, evacuate immediately and get back to Emberlight as soon as possible. Avoid from being detected at all costs. We'll meet you there, and good luck." Immediately after the message ends, you hear the sound of a ringing bell, echoing loudly throughout the whole area.
"Oh, I nearly forgot about that bell," Elliot pats his forehead, "The work shift is ending, we really should get out of here. The construction site will be closed until the next batch of workers start off their work at the next hour. If you stay here, you will get noticed. Move along now, I think I know the best way out of here."
You follow Elliot as he leads you to one of the many elevators contained in the Grand Arsenal (and you thought it can't be bigger). However, before both of you manage to get into it, two nearby guards walk forward and block your way.
"Sir Edgar?" one of the guards address you, and you identify yourself in agreement. "If that is so, you were not assigned on duty to be here," he replies, "you are under arrest, in the name of His Highness and the Warmaster, under the crime of staying out of your duties, wandering off bounds, and resisting to oblige by the rules." The guards grab your arm before you can react. It's all too late now.
"No!" Elliot shouts at the guards. All in a split second, you hear a buzzing sound, and one of the guards loosens his grip on you, crumpling to the ground. It was Elliot, with an electric taser at his hand. The other guard notices the assault, and he attempts to strike the technician. Elliot dodges out of the way, barely missing, but the guard is swift. "Just run! And be quick! Go ahead and leave me, I will slow them down." Elliot yells, panting at his efforts.
Your escape is an utmost priority now, but will you leave the technician behind for the sake of it? However, saving him will surely grant you more essential information. Hurry before the guards get you!
A- Escape through the elevator without delay.
B- Rescue Elliot and attempt to escape with him.
Let's rescue Elliot! I'm sure Kora would love to chat with him.
I fully agree with Tevokkia. Let's save Elliot, with my choice being B. Besides, we've brought him into this situation - it's our job now to get him out.
Elllllliooot!
/me saves him in slow motion while Kevier staring in awe
Hit ze guard with yer axe. Mwhahahahaha
Anyways I'm gonna be absent from this thread for a while because of lots of school stuff. Anyways cya all.
Thanks a lot for participating, we hope to see you soon!
B! More adventure! More butt-kicks!!
So "B" it!
Prepare yourselves for the most classic decision-making ever, up next!
You pull out your axe and strike a blow on the guard, who gets caught off guard by your sudden assault. You attempt to swing your axe once more, but the guard is really quick on his feet, dodging and countering your attack. Swiftly, he side-kicks you at your stomach, launching you off to the ground. He lunges towards you with another kick, but you roll away and barely miss it by an inch. Still in pain, you summon your last strength and give your axe a swing. It hits his leg, tumbling him down easily. But he manages to get up just as soon as he had fell down.
Out of nowhere, Kevier gets hold of his wands, dashing towards the guard. "Eat kaboom!" the Knocker unleashes a great blast, throwing the guard off further. Before the guard can make his next move, Elliot reaches out his taser and successfully electrocutes the guard. Thankfully, with Elliot's handy tool (and Kevier's last minute appearance), you can escape from the guards, for now.
"Quick! Into the elevator! Let me help you." Elliot sees that you're limping and helps you to walk. As the three of you heads in, Elliot pushes a white button in the console. "We've been delayed by that assault, and now that you're hurt, surely we'll get slowed down even more. Still, I thank you, for rescuing me form those guards."
"What about me? You guys always forget and ignore this tiny little gremlin!" Kevier smirks angrily, "I get into all the dangerous situations, and I have to suffer from your mistakes!"
"Don't make such a fuss, little one. We'll get out of here soon, I promise." Elliot replies comfortingly, "Even though we can't head to the exit directly from here, we can travel along an unguarded corridor, and then straight into another elevator. After this, we will get out of here. Alright, we've reach the corridor now, the door is opening. Now run!"
As soon as the door is wide open, the three of you charge forward for dear life. Just like what Elliot stated earlier, the whole passage was indeed unguarded. "How long will this take? Are we there yet?" Kevier would say whenever he slows down to gasp for air, and Elliot will simply reply, "Soon." and tug him forward a little more. After running seemingly for ever, the path suddenly branches out into two ways.
The left passage is downright pitch black, devoid of even a single flicker of light. The right passage is fully lit by the overhead lamps, and bright red caution lights, probably to alert the rest about your escape. "Uh... I can't remember which way leads to the elevator." Elliot scratches his head in frustration. "Oh, dear me! We got to find a way out now! Um, go left! No, no... is it right? No, wait! Oh, blast it!"
"Just head right!" Kevier suggests to you, "the lights should be able to guide us easily."
"No, we'll get noticed!" Elliot disagrees, "The darkness will hide us from the rest."
"It's pitch black in there! We won't see a thing, you old fool!" Kevier yells back at him, "And what if we bump into something?"
"Well, we're more likely to bump into an elevator," Elliot retorts before gazing back at you, "what do you think?"
Now you will have to decide which escape route to take, each with its own risk. Will it be left or right?
A- Left.
B- Right.
Who puts an elevator down an unlit hallway? You're probably going to find it in the lit area, even if you're more likely to be seen.
I dunno... Somehow Kevier sounds right, he was pretty lucky when he was just cramped inside the backpack without anyone noticing him. And maybe... Elliot will lead us into a trap!
B because
"The darkness will hide us from the rest."
He forgets that the darkness will also hide the rest from us.
Im back and b seems logical, and we can always kill any gremlin thatnstands in our way ;)
i think I'm going to go with A. With an injured member of our team, I think we need as much cover as we can get - if the team gets stuck in a lit corridor, they can only fight for so long before getting defeated or captured.
Im currently going through reading everything. Some nice work, Snow! :D
A as the right way has "red caution lights" and that would probably lead to the grand arsenal.
Thanks a lot for the compliments, and welcome to the new world of fanfic! :D
P.S.: If you've been wondering, I'd been reading through your recent fanfic, and it was fantastic ;)
You make up your mind and motion everyone to go right. Just as it appeared, the hallway is entirely flooded with bright lights and and blinking signals.
"I hope we're heading the right way," Elliot voices up, "and better pray hard we will not encounter any more-" Out of the blue, you hear something ahead of you - footsteps.
"Guards." Elliot finishes off shakily. Without thinking twice, all of you turn around sharply and run with all your might. But you are still too slow, and you begin to hear the footsteps approaching very quickly.
You glance back to take a look, only to be shocked by the sight of a large troop of gremlin guards, pursuing relentlessly. You try as hard as you can to get your legs working, but your heart feels like a bursting chamber inside you. When you start considering the notion of giving up, out of nowhere, a door flings out directly in front of you, and more guards start to pour out from it. This time, instead of gremlins, they're fierce and hostile Mecha Knights, built by the hands of your own kind. For now, however, they are the ones going after you.
Injured and tired, you can only stand still as the gremlins and Mecha Knights surround all of you from both sides, and you are greatly outnumbered to fight back. "So you Edgar?" One of the gremlin guards sneers at you, blinking its hideous, scarred eyes, "Me Ricky, nice see Edgar here. Now Edgar die!" Those are the last words you hear before you see a swinging axe, and feel your head hitting something hard before you fall to the ground...
[Continued at next post]
(Edit: I apologise in advance for the ridiculously long chapter.)
You wake up only to feel like you've been hit by a Tortodrone (those were the days). You open your eyes slowly, and little by little, you start to recognise your current surroundings. At first it seems barely familiar, but now you remember it as clear as day; right now you are in the guard's hangout post, exactly where the real Edgar had dropped by before you flanked him off.
All the other gremlin guards have stopped talking and eyeballs at you as soon as you are awake. They start murmuring to each other, followed by a hush from somewhere at the back. A tall, brawny gremlin steps forward and bends down to take a good look at you; it was Ricky. His eyes twitches as he struggles to speak.
"Hello, too bad Ricky no kill Edgar. But Edgar still naughty. Ricky wants big smash." He swings his mighty axe once more.
"Ricky, stop!" another guard jumps up and blocks Ricky before he can execute a deadly swing. Ricky sighes heavily and sits down with a slam, holding his axe upright on the ground. The guard turns back at you and forces a smile, "Sorry, Ricky's having a grudge again... you know how much he hates you. By the way, you look seriously hurt... It's me, Bill. You okay Edgar? Boy, you're so wounded I can't even recognise your face now. Can you hear me?" He waves his hand in front of your dizzy eyes. It seems that the guards still don't know who you really are yet.
"Yes, he is Edgar, you dimwit," You hear Kevier talking behind you (apparently all of you have been tied up in the same place). "You checked his identification and pass and everything. Now leave us alone!"
"But, why?" the one who called himself Bill stares at you more intensely, "Why did they gave orders for us to track you down, and arrest you?"
"Edgar naughty!" Ricky pounds the ground with his foot, "Edgar not listening to King!"
"Quiet, you." Bill orders again, and Ricky sheepishly obeys. Bill turns back at you, "Now, we all know each other here. Even if they want you dead, I want you alive and well. I just want to know what went wrong until they demanded an immediate search for you." You try to make up a reply, but since your head is spinning like a twister right now, you can hardly even think clearly.
"He's been helping out, sir" this time it's Elliot speaking up, "I needed assistance, and he gladly did so. I swear by His Highness' name, sir, that I'm speaking the truth. Unfortunately, Sir Edgar here, unintentionally... wandered off and took great measures in assisting me, and then the alarm sounded. It's not his fault, my good sir."
"So... this nosy Knocker here," Bill remarks, "is an outcast prisoner, and you're supposed to take him off to the prison cell."
Before Kevier can protest, Elliot hurriedly replies, "Yes, sir. Apparently, Sir Edgar was extremely determined to help me out first before sending off the prisoner."
"I remember you brought two prisoners with you."
"Oh, the other one managed to slip away, while Sir Edgar wasn't looking, sir." Elliot lies smoothly.
"Very well then. So, this declaration of arrest, I suppose, is simply a misunderstanding." Bill raises an eyebrow, "Now, the other prisoner is still at loose, we have to track him down before he discloses anything about this place. I'll lead our troops to search for him, but before that, I'll inform everyone of your rather innocent account. Meanwhile, just take a rest here while we're away. By the way, we've forgotten about saving you the bubble tea, sorry." Bill apologises with a shrug, "I'll try to get you some more on the way, maybe. And... do you want me to bring along that Knocker prisoner to his cell?"
You quickly shoot out a response, saying that you would like to keep Kevier and interrogate him personally. "Alright," Bill shrugs again, "suit yourself."
Just before Bill and the others leaves the room, he gives a stern look at Ricky, who was preparing to tag along, and points a finger at him. "You, stay here, and watch over Edgar. Don't let him leave this place until I say so. And no crushing!"
"Okay." Ricky replies gloomily and sits back down. Just as the door closes, Ricky quickly turns back and stares at you like how a real thug does. And he then he never looks away.
"Great, now we're all tied up, trapped all over again in this stinky, hot place, with nothing but a brute gremlin for company." Kevier whines as he tries to wipe off his sweaty forehead with his chained hands, but to no avail. "Now how are we ever going to esc- ouch!" Elliot elbows Kevier before he can spill any beans.
However, you really do have to find a way to escape now, but you will need to convince Ricky to actually step out of the room. Better devise a proper plan, or rather, excuse, to get Elliot, Kevier and yourself out of here.
A- Fake a major headache, then ask Elliot and Kevier to help you get a medical treatment elsewhere.
B- Excuse yourself for a bathroom break (with Elliot and Kevier joining you).
C- Make a deal to fetch a new batch of icy bubble tea for Ricky (again with their help).
@Snow
War? The Trojan Story? Or Battlefield?
Despite the fact that you're not a bunch of women, I'm going to have to go with B. I'm sure our guy can think of some utterly obnoxious excuse why Ricky wouldn't want to come ... I mean, there's a bathroom involved. Considering Ricky doesn't like us, I don't think he'd be interested in our head, and the reason we don't get along may be because Edgar started needling him first, making C implausible.
Then again, Ricky is kinda' stupid, so I'd be willing to switch to C in the event of a tiebreaker.
War and Battlefield. Now that you have finished writing about dangerous gremlins, so start to actually get into their shoes. :D
Edit: I went through your short stories, and they're great. I enjoy The Auction House Flop series the most. Poor, clumsy Luke xD
If we choose B Rick might end up cutting our Family jewels off.
XD sorry I just couldn't resist saying that.
Call it a day
