What the hell is going on?
CE market
Guys, it's obvious why the Price skyrocketed like a mad man.
They are selling almost all of their excess CE for the Update that is to come in about a couple of hours!
Lookin' forward for dat CE Price Skydrop!
I've heard that there was a price ceiling to prevent people from exploiting the CE market. Is there any solid place where i can find this? I want to report to GM's about it but I'm not sure if I can without solid evidence. Also, cant we do anything about these prices?!
@Sgt-Brownie
Update? Which one, the Guild Hall one? I haven't been checking the forums much lately x3
Went for 10million
Couldnt take a picture :(

Either this proves that price fixing is unbelievably more profitable than anyone dreamed. Or there was a bug occurring in the CE market today. If it is the latter then shame on OOO. If it is the former, the players posting the wtb bids and artificially raising ce prices for millions and millions of profit need to be banned ASAP.
Anyone who would argue the free-market economy/capitalism angle on the is flat out wrong. This is a spiral knights market economy. And OOO cannot allow a player or group of players to destroy the game for any new player trying to make their way in this game. It is OOO property. They have to be the caretakers of their property.
Yes Arilys, that one huge GH update that'll be a massive, international, constant crown sink which will effectively and forever drop the CE Price back to 6k/7k, even lower if possible!
I just figured some rich players were quitting and going out with a bang.
OOO's own players are going to ruin them.
harsh, its like on of those B&W horror movies.
looks into this, and takes action against those who did this (if it was done by human players). But i doubt they'd do anything, or even care, as they are lousy stewards of their game in that sense.
Kill off 95% of player to player economy
Allow players to manipulate the market and pretend its supply and demand.
I hope they do it again. I logged on SK just to watch it when a friend told me.
Who would pay hundreds of kcr for 100 CE? Not some doofus clicking the "buy now" button. It has to be a (previously) fabulously rich player--or players--throwing away cr. It's weird, but not malicious or harmful. It's like a giveaway via the market.
At least, that's my hypothesis.
As much as I disagree with whoever did this, I don't think the player(s) should be banned.
He was not doing anything against the game's TOS. Also, OOO knew this was a problem before, and chose not to do anything about it. If anything, OOO should have a good look at themselves.
As Three Rings always said it is a player run economy they don't influence it at all. Even though that was a lie but still. Though.. trying to think of how many crowns just got shoved into the economy makes me wonder if a GM could be rage quitting their job? >.>
10m per.....
OOO,
You guys need to figure this out and fix it. If any players were able to sell off mass amounts of CE for 10m per, you need to adjust that. give them their CE back and take the crowns.
This was obviously a glitch. I have talked to people who sold a small amount of CE for 9-10m crowns. If OOO does not step in and fix this, and roll back peoples CE and Crowns to what they were pre-glitch, then i am quitting. if thats the case, take care SK community.
I must of missed it when it hit 10m per 100 because I never saw it get above 100k. Though I guess I haven't been watching it 24/7 and only seen it spike 3 or 4 times. Honestly if they revert everyone's CE and crowns back to before this happened then they better return any money they got from players that bought CE packs to sell during it.
Think about it. That 9-10 mil cr did not appear out of nowhere. Someone had to pay it. Think: who would do that, and why?
I think it's an exploit someone found. If it's somehow legitimate and somebody really had that many crowns that they wanted to give to random players, then fine, sucks for most of us, but it's not against the rules or morally wrong or anything.
If it's an exploit, and it probably is since nobody has THAT much money to utterly waste, then OOO really needs to undo what happened. Massive amounts of crowns being generated from nowhere and given to what are effectively randomly selected people is not something they can just patch and then ignore the damage.
thats why i said i think it was a random glitch. its not like glitches are unheard of, or even uncommon on this game. We all know once upon a time an arena was glitch-ing and gave out nearly infinite crowns. Why is it so hard to believe that a glitch could have occurred in the market exchange system?
and if thats the case, it would be unethical to ban the players who took advantage (as they did with people who abused the arena glitch), which is why they should do a roll-back. aside from that, you and i can agree to disagree. But you'll probably be right in the end, as OOO never does what they should, IMO.
We're checking into this. Thanks to those of you who reported this in-game right away!
I could really use an extra 10m crowns too. Too bad by the time I can actually log in it'll be 'fixed.'
There was nothing to "fix" though. I just think it's hilarious either way.
9/26/2012 - the day Good Guy Greg wandered from Reddit to SK
After investigation, it's been found that this market fluctuation was brought about one player using a suspiciously ginormous amount of crowns to flood the market on purpose. This player has been banned, and we continue to investigate the cause of the existence of these crowns.
Once again, many thanks to those of you who reported this promptly via the appropriate channels.
well, thanks for the response, Eury. If those crowns/CE were illegitimately obtained, and i assume they were, can we expect a roll back nonetheless? I look at NJ's 70 million crowns, and wonder if anything will ever be the same. At this point, we need to look into the value of a player controlled CE market. Perhaps it is time to reevaluate? just a thought.
So in other words, Eurydice, the gamemasters or devs aren't going to roll back anything.
Somehow I just knew it was something phishy. I bet he used a hack to give his account more crowns or something.
Rollback.
@ Everyone:
Unless these crowns were gained legitimately through approved Spiral Knights practices a Rollback must be performed. Or do you approve of one player illegitimately destroying the SK economy for their own amusement.
That guy......... has to be the best troll in the game.
If only we knew his name :<
I guess so. Someone exploited a crown cheat to destroy the entire economy of a game played by a 100's of 1000's of players.
Goes past trolling though. That's like saying someone is an excellent troll because they killed your dog lol.
Lol, they have needed to, look at it for a long time now. These was foreseeable.
@Eury,
OOO really needs to suspend the game while this is investigated and a solution is swiftly and judiciously agreed upon. A roll back is in order, IMO. Njthugs screenshot is telling. The longer that is waited, the more harm and collateral damage will occur. Put everything on hold and let's sort out this mess.
@NJTHUG, thank you for so clearly illustrating why I will be quitting this game if nothing is done to rectify today's debacle.
In any event, the game should be down for maintenance until OOO finds a solution for this. Millions of crowns have been obtained most likely in an illegitimate way, the more time OOO waits with the rollback the more players are progressing in game will rage. (Think about if, what if someone rolls an ASI VH Flourish just before the rollback? :3 OOO is kind of in a catch-22 situation)
EDIT: @Pawn: Not saying i approve or anything xP But it does seem like the guy did this because he wanted to troll. Unless he had no brain what so ever he must have known he'd get banned.
@Njthug, man every time something in the game completely breaks you are the ultimate benefactor. Don't know how u do it.
Ain't no one messes with Njthug's crowns.
Ain't no one.
So this is gonna be one of those threads, where there's a new post every second
You have to shut the game down for maintenance while this is investigated. The longer it goes, the more damage is done. No player accrued 100's of millions of crowns through legitimate means. I'm guessing at least 300 million false crowns were deposited into the economy today.
By the way, if this clearly was earned illegitimately, he would clearly be able to do it again.
He very well could have had an alt online. Many upper end players hold CE/CROWNS/GEAR on an unknown alt for safe keeping in case of being hacked.
Not saying this was the case, but I'd be more surprised if it wasn't than if it was.
Also, this is another reason why a rollback would be in order if this suspiciously ginormous amount of crowns proves to be illegitimate. No telling what who has stash red away on their alts in terms of crowns or CE now.
I could use a million and you seem to have more than enough to spare. ;P
Except it's been established that it was the fault of a single person, and that single person has been banned - presumably for the duration of whatever's being looked into. Shutting down an entire game because of the fault of one person would be comical, but it's also unnecessary considering at the end of the day, everyone's crying "rollback" anyway, which would completely negate the premise of shutting down the game to begin with.
In short, calm your balls. If it gets rolled back, it gets rolled back. You can't really argue "damage" for a shutdown when your solution would erase any progress from today anyway, both positive and negative.
But I'd better not lose the shock high I rolled on my pierce max jelly mail. :< I'm sure people who unboxed good stuff or finished SLs or found good AH deals will feel likewise.
Honestly though, while I can understand doing a rollback (or preferably just removal of cr) for the sake of fairness, I don't buy the "destruction of the economy" argument. The economy will be fine. Yeah, a few people are now massively richer, and maybe a few hundred are somewhat richer--so? I don't see how this will be disastrous for the economy.
Remember: I'm not disputing that the outcome is unfair (although that's nothing new in SK). I'm asking what actual harm you think this will cause to the economy.

Shutting down for maintenance is less about "preventing damage" and more about "finding out how he got those crowns and patching it if it was via exploit/hacking" IMO. Even if they roll the game back, if this guy gained a massive amount of crowns through some kind of exploit/hack and it's not fixed, it could happen again.
Indeed, I took a screenie a bit ago and was gonna make a thread about it.
Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/MnXI2.png
It got to 30k per 100 CE but I couldn't screen it, and now it seems like it's returning to around 9k but... what the hell just happened? xD
EDIT: Nevermind, it just went back up to 15k per 100CE lol. Good thing I don't need energy atm o.O
