There's days I wonder why I want their job.
CE market
speak for yourself, I do have an idea on how things are logged.
if they are storing data it will be in a transactional database.
and everything is logged at the transaction level, because they need to make sure that everything is kept consistent.
i'm saying, it is *possible* to trace where the crowns have gone, but there is a LOT of work needed to do so.
and they still have to decide what to do with player interactions such as if someone traded these crowns for an item, or if they bought something from the AH, or what ever
like in Bogga's story (post 125) they probably can't be bothered figuring out what is legitimate and just wipe crowns/ce/uvs. and even that takes a lot of work.
It's not even remotely feasible to track down where each crown went. What about that buyout on the AH from somebody selling a rare item? What about the items that got UV rolled? What about the people who converted their free crowns back into CE? It's not realistic to expect them to return that item to its owner, delete the UVs, and then un-buy the CE. If I go on and post a CE offer right now and somebody who got a ton of money buys the lot, and then I spend those crowns, then what? Do I need to have my buy un-bought so that I can have my CE sell then un-bought? I wasn't involved in this situation at all, why should I be affected? I estimate that they would have to shut down the game (so things stop happening) and devote their entire staff to resolving what happened for weeks. Which would mean coding utilities which track down where things went, since nobody can realistically just look at a database transaction log and make sense out of thousands upon thousands of transactions.
Basically, it's not going to happen. Rolling back 6 hours is rough for a game, even if they're off hours, and it punishes people who didn't do anything when the core integrity of the game isn't at stake. And it was only 500 million crowns, which isn't that much, globally speaking. Hopefully it was distributed fairly well, rather than one person now having 200 million crowns.
OOO's doesn't have a good move to make, and probably never did, so they've made the bad move that they feel is less bad. We can't really ask for more than that. You could argue that the exploit shouldn't have existed in the first place, but as a software dev I don't fault them too much for that. Bugs happen, you fix them.
"Here's an update on the situation, for those interested:
We have now confirmed that the market fluctuation was the result of a single person encountering a bug and then later exploiting the result by flooding the CE market.
We have removed the crowns that player illegitimately received, and the CE purchased by the player with those crowns.
The exchange has self-corrected.
A few other players did benefit from the market fluctuation, but our logs show that the bulk of the resulting crowns have already been sunk via Punch. As such, we will not be initiating a rollback.
We have now patched the bug that caused this situation, and we have determined that the bug was not encountered and exploited by other players. We apologize for any inconvenience and upset that the period of inflated CE prices might have caused you."
Your logs show that the bulk went to uv rolling???
THAT IS A BOLD FACED LIE. A PATHETIC COPOUT ON YOUR PART TO NOT DO THE RIGHT RIGHT THING. SUCKS.
WOW. OOO. JUST WOW. Man up you spineless wimps.
No, it's not a lie. Telling an upsetting truth to players is no fun, but lying instead would come back to bite me in the butt every single time, so I don't do it. I'm sorry you don't believe it, but please keep your comments civil.
I'm confused. Well I'd believe most of the money got spent at Punch (darn that gremlin fool!). Don't know why yelling (I guess yelling more like CAPS locking?) at Three Rings is going to help. If you could explain this to me I'd appreciate it.
Not sure why everyone is so mad. So some yahoo decided to pull a Robin Hood, steal from the Rich and give to the poor! If you missed it, like myself, wrong place and wrong time. Saddle up and move on. Yelling at Three Rings isn't going to help your case at all.
And Finally:
Pawn I dunno how you can tell Eury to "man up" when obviously she is a woman. <69
[Avenged]
"Man up you spineless wimps."
"No, it's not a lie."
You know what this means.
Break dancing competition.
No, it's not a lie. Telling an upsetting truth to players is no fun, but lying instead would come back to bite me in the butt every single time, so I don't do it. I'm sorry you don't believe it, but please keep your comments civil.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a suitable response. I have gained a lot of respect for your team.
Everyone sounds very angry at the way OOO is handling this, but I think they are doing just fine. I know, this is an upsetting situation for many, but in the end I think it will turn out just fine. Just my opinion.
So it did turn out to be a glitch and not just a rich guild having some fun while they quitted. Well, I can't blame those that are quitting for quitting. I don't blame them at all. I abused it also and wouldn't of had a problem with a rollback if I got my $10 back.. Yeah I had to rush buy a ce package because I had nothing to sell.
Personally knowing there are people out there now running around with 10m+ crowns from this glitch makes me want to quit also.
I'll start with............
the Charleston.
:P
Back on topic: I can really see this as the following analogy:
There was a sudden huge leak in the plumbing in apartment 3b, property managers fixed it promptly, and are cleaning up the water damage.
You live in apartment 34F and expect a handout? Compensation? Uh... does not compute.
Hope you have renter's insurance.
they pretend to have a free market. but i guess no freedom of speech. pawn has had his forum privileges permanently revoked for calling them liars.
Please, don't tell me that's true. That's just wrong. Soo wrong.
To be fair, I'm sure that had a lot of people known it was a legitimate glitch and not someone just toying with the CE market as we've seen on a smaller scale in the past (a-Whaddup, insurmountable walls of CE preventing the price from falling), it would've been reported sooner and the damage -probably- could've been addressed in a more timely manner. With OOO touting how the CE market is completely user-driven and that they do not influence it in any way, I'll be the first to admit I thought it was someone who was bored, if only because I could see myself doing it if I had invested the kinds of figures we were seeing into the game.
And now I know how to piss a ton of people off for the next April Fools. Guess I better start saving!
Well...................................................
I guess I'm not too surprised. I would instead of accusing them of Bold-Faced lying, to instead ask for further proof that the previous statement by Eury is true.
And Free speech isn't always necessarily free. There are laws that prohibit some forms of speech, including but not limited to slander, prosecutable in the US. I suppose you could conclude that calling the OOO staff liars qualifies as such. And afterall... their house. their forum. their ToS.
Pawn got perma banned from the forums??? :O <----- This is almost more of a game changer than 100's of millions of crowns entering the economy unfairly earlier today
This is a very unfortunate event that took place today, and I personally do feel very bent out of shape about it as many of us feel.
I am also concerned that this could happen again in the future. I would like to trust that OOO has corrected whatever the glitch was, but I guess for those of us who don't quit over this fiasco will just have to play a game of wait and see...
> Please, don't tell me that's true. That's just wrong. Soo wrong.
I can't speak about particular cases, but we don't forum ban people just for a single instance calling us liars. If someone has a pattern of rulebreaking over a period of time, it is documented in the player's support history. If warnings and tempbans don't cause them to stop breaking the forum rules, a forum ban is then applied.
Please note that appeals about support actions should be escalated through the appropriate channels. Thanks.
what would have been better this?
they were notified within 30-45mins of the issue. Take the game down for maintenance. From there either roll back to a set point an hour or so earlier, or at worst, just freeze the game, figure out what the heck is going on, and fix it.
Instead, they allowed the game to continue on for 5-6 hours while people sold 100 ce for anytihng between 18k and 900k per 100. Then put out the blanket statement with no statistics to back it, to paraphrase 'no bid deal, most of it was rolled away neways, the economy is fine. carry on'
So, really? anywhere from 100s of millions to 1000s of millions were introduced into the economy, or more, and i'm expected to believe most of it was rolled away, and there will be no deleterious affects? And even if all of it was rolled away, that is still not okay. But i guess whatever takes the least effort is what they will go with. And the rest can be reasoned away with unprovable blanket statements.
How about letting us know how many fake crowns were introduced? What percent of that was rolled away? How many max, double max, triple max UVs were created? How many of those are bound, how many are being sold? How many items were purchased off teh AH due to this? How many items in the future will remain inflated?
How do we know that the CE market is really stable and there is not some sort of OOO price fix in on the short term to assuage public outrage? --"oh rommil that couldn't happen!!" but couldnt' it? we all know OOO said they'd never get involved in the economy, and then when shadow keys came out they were seeding them into the AH without a pip of admissions to anyone. Over and over and over again, they put up lots of 5-10 with a set min bid price and no buyout (all at the same times, it was too obvious). Meanwhile the community at large spent 100s of thousands of CE to try and unlock them at a 1% chance in lockboxes.
so lets not act like such things are impossible, or act like OOO acts in the best interest of the community at large.
Three Rings is the new Soviet Union! Nicee!! So, the EU, the USA, and former communist Russia are a perfect example of this game's economical status! The government (three rings) will prosper while the people aren't making enough to feed their children! Aweeeeesoomeeee, hooray for non-working class (f2p)!
Not sure if that guy (poster of comment #144) is a real alt of whoever did that to the market today, but if they are then there's your answer of about 500 mil crowns
and apparently they may be planning another one?
I am semi-new to this community, so Rommil, is it likely that 100's of millions of crowns were introduced and none of them have been removed? I think Eury posted something along the lines of some of them being removed. I really hope something is done about this situation more than what is being done now. I can only hope. And by the way people talk about OOO, I'm not having a great feeling about it.
And to all those who kept screaming,
THIS IS NOT A BUG DUHHH!!! YOU'RE JUST JELLY!
Where are you now?? =D
"Three Rings is the new Soviet Union!"
In Soviet Three Rings, meme bans you.
"pawn was perm-banned from the forums"
I saw his brief farewell and have it bookmarked. I may not have known him personally, and he probably had no intent of meeting me, but to be banned permanently from the forums just for pointing out the truth is disgusting, especially when people like Blandaxt are allowed back to the forums when their only activity includes breaking forum rules. Why does the repeat (every time their ban is lifted they immediately resume breaking the rules again) offender only get a month every once in a while but the person who helps the game get permanently locked out?
Now that I think about it, this is Mabinogi all over again. It starts with duplicating the common form of money (gold/crowns), then it gets to mods (at first only visual, but eventually things like combining armor stats to have infinite defense and being able to directly attack other players when there is no friendly fire), all while the host (Three Rings in our case) ignores all of it and pumps out promo after promo in hopes of squeezing all they can out of the playerbase before the ship sinks. Is that what you want to do? Spoiler alert, when NexonNA did that with Mabinogi it went into the dirt down to my house in hell. People only play that game to wear the pretty rainbows and what not NexonNA throws out in desperate money grabs. Is that where this game is going?
And of course, my comment gets removed even though it was much more civil than Pawns which I can still see. Stop trying to shut me up, I get enough of that in real life. You could have editied my comment to make it nicer, but noooooo "I'm jus gonna delete so no one will ever know".
If it wasn't civil enough, here it is again :
Don't be surprised and get angry when we call you liars. It is very hard to believe you when you are so secretive.
This is the final warning to all parties keep this thread civil. Please follow the forum guidelines. Thanks.
lol Serell, its like the time I got in trouble for using the R word on the forum and a week later someone else used it against me and it was never removed.
Wodanct: Couldja report (in-game, please) where that post is, please? I don't see a report about it from you in your support record.
What, you mean it doesn't matter if you see someone breaking the rules as long as no one reports it? Or did you miss the post?
don't say damn O.o
Pawn is my friend. Pawn was warned once for cussing during the energy depot rage (where he actively tried to seek a 1-2 suspension out of rage and frustration). He was warned a second time and suspended a for 2 days for bumping a certain thread where a screaming gremlin avatar said they hated bumps (he honestly didn't know you could get suspended for bumps, for real, look at the bazaar right?). And a final permaban for his post in this thread. AFAIK that is the history.
But if no one complains, i suppose do whatever you want. I have to say, your outrage is appreciated.
@Eurydice Well, I never reported it since I don't considering it a swear word even if I have a warning against myself for it and I the tread vanished into the pages below 1st page. Though since you asked I went back looking for the thread. I found the thread but it appears the forum account named Dalektardis either had their post deleted or removed.
I have one nasty headache though. Long day at work between customers and people just being silly. Also before I start my shift I usually do wash my hands.. some gentlemen didn't lock the bathroom when they were using it. I wasn't a happy camper.
You guys still arguing about this? OOO already said what they've done/not done.
I suggest we all build ourselves a bridge and get over it. Whether it to be quitting or not, although I do see someone quitting to be a bit melodramatic but I can't make people not be like that. At the end of the day Pawn broke the forum rules, and has done many other times before, whether he has been telling the truth or not does not matter, it's the way he says it that does. Using all caps and calling OOO liars without any evidence is not the way to go about trying to get more information upon this issue.
Anyway, pointless sitting here and arguing about something which more or less has little impact upon myself. Might as well act like any run of the mill forum goer and only care for myself ^-^ To Torchlight 2!
~The Mighty Cheese Knight; WeeGee
Good thing I've got Borderlands 2 to play while this game continues to implode.
I related what happened today to my ban story that happened to me last year for a similar kind of bug (arena raining invisible crowns). I had nothing to do for this happen and got stripped of all my belongings in the end. It's really nice how you removed the post stating I was making False Claims.. so it's OK for you guys to call me a liar, but we have to believe everything you say.. like that most crowns from today's bug are gone..
Now there's this guy in game claiming on the trade channel that he made 56m crowns and 30kce out of this bug (or whatever you wanna call it).. and bragging about it. But everything is fine .. no need for OOO to do anything about that.. it's only 1700$+ worth of Crowns and CE.
Is it true ? I dunno, but the GMs do and are not gonna do anything about it.. too much work.
Make up whatever you want about it.. GMs needed to take serious actions but didn't. I was treated harshly for something I didn't generate but when these people willingly took part in what was clearly some bug .. (exploit) .. NO Problem.
This is just plain Wrong
Someone hacks the game, I see it and am like "Wow, that's pretty bad...", then when I come back, it all gets worse.
But three rings did something wrong! They banned player x, when player y did something just as bad/worse!
What else should they have done? Made hundreds, or even thousands, of players leave? Seriously, having several people rant over what was done about a hack is worse than having the hack itself being executed. If someone does something wrong, just use /report and forget about it.
But it's still not-
Just use /report and forget about it.
But-
JUST USE THE REPORT FEATURE AND SAY NOTHING ELSE.
Honestly, if you are going to act very uncivil, don't act at all.
i've seen smaller companies do the right thing way better than OOO, what was going through your minds when you got this reported to you? to wait literally over 4 hours not doing anything?
you guys shut down the servers for small bugs but when people are taking advantage of a hole to make a boatload of coin you guys just sit there?
most of us players spend a good chunk of money supporting you guys, don't you guys owe US a valid explanation and an action plan? or are we just drones that give you cash while you guys do what you want?
i'm leaving for now, no one probably cares; thats fine, but this is ridiculous, get your act together OOO
and don't say i'm being impolite, i can think of a 8 letter word to describe this entire situation
... you guys can't even make a decent french translation of your own game.
I tihink I sodld one ce for 1ce?
@autofire no one should be suggesting that the people who took advantage of this should be banned, just rollback the servers to yesterday, fix said bug, filter out those who actually bought ce with REAL money ( aka give them that ce back) and bingo, give them all around 500 ce (it's hard to track crowns everywhere but it seems like a fitting price to pay) or a week elevator pass and boom problem solved.
they sat there doing nothing while they knew for hours, did they not? Then they should pay for that mistake, not us.
it always falls back to us.
@Bogga I related what happened today to my ban story that happened to me last year for a similar kind of bug (arena raining invisible crowns). I had nothing to do for this happen and got stripped of all my belongings in the end.
As per our Forum Guidelines, by discussing your ban on the forums you have waved your right to have us protect your privacy on this specific issue. Several months back there was a bug that allowed crowns to continually spawn in a specific location. Said issue has been fixed for quite some time. Had you run across the bug you're describing and informed us, or avoided abusing it, you wouldn't have run into any problems whatsoever. However rather than doing that you brought on an alt and proceeded to sit there for hours exploiting the bug for almost 20M crowns. This represents an egregious and intentional abuse of a broken game mechanic and is explicitly against our Terms of Service.
That's quite a bit different than someone who sells CE for the listed price in the market, even if it is oddly high. They couldn't know for sure if something was broken or if someone was just trying to buy a lot of CE. I'm sorry if you're unable to differentiate the two, but we feel the intention behind a person's actions is important.
In this case, the person who abused the bug to gain the crowns in the first place was dealt with as soon as it was brought to our attention by some concerned knights and we were able to locate the source of the crowns.
As a side note, thank you to all those who sent in requests regarding this issue. I really appreciate when knights report things like this so we can look into it as quickly as possible.
If I got all those crowns.... TRIPPLE MAXES EVERYWHERE!
yes, i spelled your name cHronus because you are such a G you are almost H.
@ In this case, the person who abused the bug to gain the crowns in the first place was dealt with as soon as it was brought to our attention by some concerned knights and we were able to locate the source of the crowns.
ok so cronus ( if i may call you that) that guy got banned, all fine and dandy.
heres what you do when you sit for 4 hours doing nothing while a select group of players profit and rage uv millions of crowns at punch's forgery and in many cases, just keep it.
- rollback the servers and fix said bug.
- keep in mind the players who BOUGHT ce with actual MONEY and give them refunds or their ce back, i know for a FACT that you guys keep databases, i worked in offices all my professional life.
- send a message to everyone explaining why all those things were reversed and give them some gift incentive to stay, perhaps 500 ce or a week long elevator pass, some stuff like that you know?
- stop trying to avoid players giving you guys good ideas and banning them from the forums, activision did that with the tony hawk community and look where that got them, want more info on that i can tell you personally about that.
accept your mistake and remedy the situation, you are making players angrier with your explanations.
THANK YOU SO MUCH HELIOS for intervening on a run the other day with a dear friend Spookeasy and giving her exactly what she deserved.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9HaiuznM6w&feature=youtu.be
Yer lucky Jade had chat muted. Pretty sure I was screamin at you then too.
Whatever happened to Spook, she clearly deserved it for being a dank !*@ [REDACTED].
yes
Millions of crowns out there gained by unfair means. You gotta admit, this little exploit guy sure found a way to distribute the crowns across the game.
And dont even say "forum population is only 5% not many had access blah blah blah". MANY were online at the time and it goes waaay beyond forum. People tell guildies. Guildies tell their friends, friends tell more friends, it probably ended up in trade/zone chat and before you know it every person online took advantage of it. So about 500 million crowns into the economy and people gained millions by not working. Which is a complete slap to the face for people who actually WORKED for their cr like myself, pawn, rommil, etc.
Many players are asking why OOO took an entire of FOUR hours or so to stop this problem. Why? The answer is simple and should be quite obvious, though I'm not sure why no one else has mentioned it. When 100 ce is suddenly selling for up to 10 million a pop what did many players rush to do? BUY ce packages with real money. OOO couldn't have designed a better promo package themselves. Why shut it down quickly when they're suddenly raking in the money? They can deal with a little outrage on the forums; it'll die down eventually like it always does. The question also comes to mind, though I admit it is somewhat of a conspiracy plot, was there REALLY a hacker? Or was that simply a scapegoat...
@ Largedongdong: So what your saying is....
> Three Rings causes the "bug" which throws about 500 mil cr into the market.
> Players notice this and take advantage of it, and some even buys CE with RL money.
> Forum reports and discussion starts.
> OOO blames it on a single player who found an exploit?
Seems unlikely that they would do that. The theory however, is interesting.
You guys seem really upset.....
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
