Requesting Art, anime-style
That's even worse.
Take a look at the sketch again. She looks courageous and determined in it. That was precisely the look I wanted. It somehow got lost in the coloring, and I want it back. :P
Hm.. "Bad girl" must have gotten lost in translation somewhere in my head. The reason why the expression got lost from the original sketch is because I made the hair partially cover the eyes. Would you mind if I put the eyes on top of the hair completely?
Eghhh slow responses are always slow.

Tell me any additional changes you want me to make, and I'll revise this during my free period tomorrow (provided I don't have more schoolwork to do x_x) And sorry for taking a long time with this, semi-realistic humans turned out to be far more challenging than I previously thought :s, but I will work closely with you to produce the final result that you want.
Thanks. I'm always nervous when criticizing someone else's art, even if I paid for it. :P
Alrighty. I think the two most critical issues with the picture is her hair and facial proportions. Currently, Gwen looks 50 years old. She's supposed to look between 16-21. Referring to your V6 sketch, I would say she lost her girlish features and became more rotund.
Maybe you should try ditching the more realistic features and go for an anime-style look. That involves leaving off the facial shading, replacing the lips with a simple line and chin (like in the sketch), and giving her chin angles slightly more pronounced.
In short, just color in the V7 (compressed V6) sketch and see how it looks. I love the sketch as-is.
To put it differently, bring up the sketch and try to follow along with my imagination here...
*The hairs in front of her eyes are thin white strands, bangs.
*Most of her hair is hidden behind the hood.
*Her skin is quite pale.
If you don't mind me asking Thin, can you show us all of your Gwen requests and commissions?
If you like, I can show you the stories where each of them appears.

Never officially on this site. But she has been used elsewhere.
Fixed up skin color and made her look younger. Not quite ready to abandon painting if I can make an easier fix :'D
Her face looks much better now. I wonder what it looks like with her former eye shape?
Now for her hair. Most of it should be covered and tucked behind the hood (or the shadows of the hood), except for a little hanging on her shoulders, again, much like in the sketch. The effect should look something like this, this, or this.
Speaking of which, the hood needs to be thinner.
Sure, but I haven't made any progress on anything below the neck. http://puu.sh/7lMXI.png
Also did more detail on the hair, which I will get around to shading more fully. http://puu.sh/7lMZL.png
I got a second opinion from my little sister. She thinks that Gwen's face is a little too bland and offered the following recommendations:
Try thinning her cheeks a little and "add a little bit of lipstick" (or, as I interpret it, color them a darker shade of pink).
Darkened the lips a bit more without intruding on the unity of the face, and also moved the lips and nose since those were bothering me -- could you ask your sister to clarify that this is what she means by thinning the cheeks? http://puu.sh/7lPjP.png
I can probably guess what she means - I was thinking much the same thing myself this morning in the shower, though not in as many words. Try including the upper cheeks in the new jawline (if they aren't already).
EDIT: Yes, narrow the angle of her chin a bit and thin out the cheeks. Jawline first so I can determine if we're thinking the same thing.
Most of the upper cheeks are hidden by hair. And I shortened the neck a little because it looked a bit weird after I angled the chin a couple of times ._.
Wow, looks much better. Still not quite perfect though; little sis thinks the eyes are off, and I'm inclined to agree with her. How would she look if the downward angle of the eyes were reduced a bit? (In other words, made a bit more level)
Maybe reduce the overall size of the eyes a tad too...
Yeah, I did look at it right after I sharpened the cheekbones, and thought the eyes would have been lined up funny relative to the cheeks. Made a few more adjustments~ http://puu.sh/7lRp3.png
That should do for now. Not bad at all. Now I'll need to compare it to the full body, but of course that'll have to be finished. :P
P.S. Little sis thinks the cheeks still need to be thinned out, but I'm reluctant to do so (and slightly inclined to disagree). What do you think?
http://puu.sh/7lSwm.png Thinned them out again ever so slightly, up to you whether or not I should this change (made revisions on a different layer so I could easily erase it)
"You can use this as a sort of help for an anime-style approach :
http://www.deviantart.com/art/Spiral-Knights-Sketch-Vinnydime-366425266
In the method of the link, the eyebrows are re-drawn ABOVE the layer of bangs, making them still visible. Realistic eyebrows are not recommended for that approach, as strands of eyebrow will be lost or conflicting with strands of individual bangs or hair."
T-This is embarrassing to see. I just showed up because I decided to lurk.
Oh glob. q_q
A-arcelle?!
OHMAIGOD
CAN I HUG YOU?
CANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANICANI?!
And yes, this is Vinnydime converted into another form. XD
A-aaaaah.
@Thinslayer: It's been a while since I drew it, and it's always embarrassing for me to revisit old pictures. ;____;
@Feline-Grenadier: Oh, hey! No, you may not.
Allow me to do it first!

I kinda gave up all games for Lent tho...so I can't extend an invite to you to play again or help you if you already are, but still...
Yo Thin. Another WIP for you, done without the chin revisions. Hair still looks a bit strange, I'll fix it tomorrow ;-; http://puu.sh/7lW4y.png
By the way, do you have a Skype or Steam or some other way I could message you? I feel like it would be a lot faster than just shouting over a forum thread xD
I have both, but Skype is probably better. I'll PM it to you in-game tomorrow.
Regarding the WIP, it just occurred to me that her cloak looks a bit bulky for her face...
Too bulky as in...? http://puu.sh/7lWGT.png Yeah I guess I could see where you're coming from
I suppose I could make the body a bit smaller. And I PMed you my skype name in-game just now.
Aw. I'm not playing again at the moment, but maybe I'll check out what's new and mess around with some friends, haha. It'll have to wait until after exams and stuff, though. ;_;
I like to lurk forums, though! :')
Hm, well, if it's the exams, then I have ten days or a little more cut down for me! XD
Yeah, that's kinda what I meant. Her legs and hands are wider than her head, and it should be the reverse.
I've contacted you in Skype. Let's see how well it works. ^_^
If only Shu saw this post sooner, and wasn't in an art slump... Keep up the good work!
I saw Arcelle did her own version of it, so....
Am I still working on this or not?
Yep. I would have said something if I'd withdrawn my offer. ^_^
Yo thin, I know I was never meant to commsion this, but here is something I come up with. The drawing is for free of course as it is probably not what you asked for.
Note: the man top left to Gwen is Diavolo and the woman (yes, it is a she) on the top right is Xindis, and I added some darksoul reference here and there.
It's done. I sent you a link to the full-sized, unsigned version over Skype. This was one was a whopper at 4500x3000 pixels. ;u;
So, I haven't drawn in about two billion years and happened to stumble onto this thread.
Thought I'd pick up a pencil again to see what I could do.

Judge meh <3
I would practice faces in perspective a bit more but for a two billion year old artist that's not bad at all.
I love how many people drew for Thinslayer anyways XD
He didn't ask for it, yet he got so many depictions, lol, time for him to start a Gwen Gallary. Or in other 'words' GG peeps.
Thanks all. ^_^
It's all pretty cool art in its own right.
