Does it matter if you max out the level of an item before you alchemize it? So, would a level 10 Voltech make a better mkii Voltech than one that's alchemized at level 1? Or does everything start from scratch after alchemy? Thanks.

This might, and likely is, be an obvious question.

While playing through the RANKS section of missions you eventually get to 'Time to get Crafty', which has you attempt to create Hot Edge and the Frost Gun with an Alchemy Station; since the Alchemy Stations require crystal energy, does this mean I cannot progress any further in the game due to this?
