Machinauts: Far Side of Cradle - A stat-based RP

((As of today, I'm implementing the Checkpoint system.
Every so often, there will be a Checkpoint. Any Machinauts that don't post after a Checkpoint are removed from battle until they do post. However, they will still gain Crowns and Heat, though the distribution of Heat may be deferred until their next move.
All you really need to do is post in the thread, even just saying "Checkpoint" or something along that line. And if you post during a battle, you can immediately enter the current fight as normal.
The next fight will most likely begin on Thursday, so I'll see you then!))

They could have simply lured us to over-extend and kill the diplomacy team while we are distracted and circumventing our objective for good. KV-103: "Ignem is a pseudo-machinaut too?!"
Me: "Pseudo-machinaut? Care to elaborate on that term?"
KV-103: "I have always thought the term 'Machinaut' is not just a general term you throw around, it is a term for advanced AI machines built by members of the Torchbellow clan who also serves the interest of the clan. Which is why all DFN units are considered traitor, whether their defection is noble or not. This also rules out Thyrnn since he is apparently a hybrid of xenos technology and that of ours, a mistake if you ask me... but his hybrid nature means he is more akin to a Isoran built pulsar than anything else. And don't even get me started on Maticlocker... who clearly never red the introduction and just chimed in WITH A 100% ISORAN BUILT AI ROBOT."
Me: "So, you are implying that Ignem is not a machinaut since she may not be loyal to the Torchbellow cause after all?"
KV-103: "Seems that way, although I can't meta game, I would have destroyed Thyrnn and Maticlocker on sight... and give PAD-103 mute a slap on the wrist for good measure. The missing of the Ignem's torchbellow's forge mark also raises some serious alarm. I won't go through the other machinauts since none of the writers actually cared enough to describe how they look."
Me: "Well, I guess I will just have to keep the head canon to myself in that case, now that I thought about it, if I was Doc, KV-103 would have killed more machinauts than the enemies by page ten."
KV-103: "Victory must be brought with blood, be it hundreds or millions, there is no price too high for the purity of machine. I am no noble knight, there is no chivalry in my code, no mercy in my soul, I am the sword of the Torchbellow clan, I am the machine god's wrath."

This wasn't the path to Dragonspire City, it was a hidden path to a Venom Edge fort that just went on for a ridiculous length of time. I remember having IS-M44 mention this wasn't the path to Dragonspire City, but might've mixed it up midway through, so...))

"Still, it does seem suspicious that they wouldn't attack the diplo team directly. Either they hate fighting Recons, or, yes, someone wants you- you in particular- out of the picture."
You follow IS-M44's direction, continuing your march toward the elevator. But is it just you, or does something seem... unusual?

You move along IS-M44's path, perhaps still wondering... what is it that's after you? But you're almost to the elevator. You can already hear the voices of the Diplo Team Machinauts, and another voice which, no doubt, belongs to the aforementioned Councillor Kirisia.
Then, the path stops where it shouldn't. There's a wall in front of you- and once you look back, a wall behind you. Your comlink goes quiet- but sensors indicate IS-M44 is still speaking into it. You just can't... hear it? And the voices of the diplo team are silent, too.
Then, before you, stands a Machinaut. You think. In every way save a shimmering reflective shield, it is nondescript. It makes no attempt to communicate, but simply raises a weapon behind its shield, and in the shield's surface you can plainly see your reflection.
What is this creature? It doesn't appear to be of the Swarm. What... is it?

I then turned to the diplomatic team.
"We lost communications for a few minutes due to a strange reflection getting in our way. At least, that's what I think happened. I've gone through a search of my internal database and I've found nothing. Not even a trace of any system infiltration." I said to them, trying to explain why communications to IS-M44 were cut unexpectedly.
(While the Mirror Knight retconning itself from the database might be against canon, I'd like to think Ignem's systems have a few security holes and that's how it got her.)

"Adjutant, we were attacked by some kind of doppelganger machinaut during the radio static," said KV-103, "My AI is not of ones and zeros, it cannot be wiped clean... I have memories, fragments, and I remembered what the knight said... 'data acquired'... we played right into their traps... the dracolisks were no doubt testing our abilities telepathically. Machinauts, stay vigilant, that was no mere hallucination, it was sorcery."

"And this was before Autosentience was recognized, so a majority were just... decommissioned." IS-M44 pauses for a moment. Is it a moment of silence?
"Anyway. It seems unlikely that the Dracolisks would have one. Unless..." IS-M44 sees the last bit of footage from the battle. "...now that's interesting. Seven Dracolisks- as many as there are Elders. And one has... strings attached. That could mean a few things, and I don't like either of them..."
"All things considered, this wasn't a normal Machinaut, especially considering the combat capabilities it had. This is way beyond any Owlite relics we've analyzed... Either way. Between this event and what we've heard from Kirisia, it seems like there's at least one Dracolisk up to no good. But at the same time, I don't think the Dracolisks are the only players in this game, so keep your heads up."
"I'm going to upload an info doc on all seven Dracolisk factions in just a bit. In the meantime, the techies are going to look through what references we have. If there are any locations to investigate, we'll notify you."

Elder Kirisia responds, "I'm afraid so. They're not very numerous compared to those that want to work together to blast the hell out of the Swarm, but they're there. The story they're giving is that you're here to hunt eggs, but that's obviously bunk considering your Advance Force protected Temparyx- and because they came under attack by hostile forces already. Still can't believe that conniving little wretch Spor-zin'tur is showing his face in the Dragonspire... I think I could name a few names if I wasn't sure the press would hammer me for it."
"Then, you are in favor of the joint action?"
Kirisia nods, stretching her wings. "The Swarm is a threat to everyone. It's obvious they need to die, it's only practical that we fight back, and we need all the help we can get. It's mostly Beastgrounds, where we've got livestock; We found some mercs running around down there that might be after you. We've got agents in place to stop the ones we've found, but you'll need to protect your diplomats if you come under attack in case we missed any."

There are two different paths to get to the city proper, and we'll be home free when we get there; Matik2002 and our other Machinauts will be more than enough to ensure their safety inside the city limits. But there's one final stretch before they make it there."
"Work on that document I promised is taking longer than we expected, so I'm afraid it'll have to wait till we get to the city." IS-M44 clears his voice-module. "All right, there's two paths. The northerly path is more jungly, and has large numbers of weaker Undead and Constructs being motivated by who knows what. The southmost path has a few run-down buildings hiding stronger mercenaries of varying types. Both will also have wild beasts that might fight against one or both sides."
"You'll have the aid of Matik2002 in the battle, but you'll have to protect the diplomats, who aren't quite as capable as you, but have limited Recon Cloaks for avoiding some trouble."

The diplo team marches ahead, managing to keep pace with you. As you go, you notice an odd few Dracolisks flying along the skybox, but fewer of them are about in this more overgrown area. And if the Dracolisks travel by flight, no doubt there's plenty of things hidden in this jungle. Even the occasional Wolver pack eyes you with concern, but perhaps they are wiser than the feral Wolvers you faced before; they keep a safe distance.
Then, as you pass by an overgrown, ruined old fort, you hear a grumbling ghostly voice. "...bled him to death, like that Vulture deserved, they did. Just as well, I be sick an' tired of standin' around with a buncha these pox-ridden insects tryin' to finish Viduur's accursed revenge quest! Aye, I dunno how he knew that lot of scurvy tinmen would go down 'ere, but I don't care, I wanna get on with whatever I got stuck with on the other side! The suspense be killin' me and I'm a ghost!
