"Indeed. If Kaan had just stuck with machines and engineering, imagine where he'd be now! Maybe we wouldn't have had to deal with this nonsense. But why in the world would the Apocreans oppose an alliance against the Swarm? I thought they hated each other."
"I think I caught something during Maledict's spiel." IS-M44 says, "He mentioned wanting a war between us to distract you from their actions. There's something here that the Apocreans wanted. Have you heard of an old dragon named 'Arvaken'?"
"Arvaken? Arvaken, the ancient guardian himself? That's who they were after?!" Galvaron's eyes grow wide. "I thought he didn't even exist! Thought him just a legend! If he appeared to you... Yes, you have what it takes." Galvaron moves to leave the area. "I just went here to help you fight, but since the fight is over, I should get to where Kirisia is and let her know that ancient Arvaken was targeted by the Apocrea. If Arvaken is on our side, we can rebuild, and this time, we can govern right."
As Galvaron leaves the room, Holt stares at you, his brother's Mirror Shield on his arm and the great lance Liberator against his back. He is still some kind of dark amorphous creature, but he no longer has any distortion around it. He extends his free hand, in an attempt at a handshake.
"I guess not all children of the dark are of pure evil..." KV-103 stepped forward and shook the hand of the creature. At the moment of contact, something changed.
KV-103's visual modules were stunned by a blinding flash of light, after the flash, another figure stood in Holt's place, a massive machinaut from time immemorial, bigger than even the fallen king armed with an ornate golden chainsword. They both stood in a resplendent palace with what seemed to be a massive victory parade outside the marble balcony behind them. The sound of a million throats cheered as metal feet stomped across the streets below all in perfect unison.
"I congratulate you on your fine work, our distant scion." the massive machinaut said, "but know that the war for cradle is forever, even if the swarm is vanquished, a new enemy will always emerge. Maintain vigil and farewell."
"I wish I could be marching down there with you," KV-103 said, with an strong sense of nostalgia, "I don't think anything I can do can bring back this glorious golden age."
"It is all in the past now, Fallen King." the massive machinaut replied, "it may be true that you cannot bring back the past, which is all the more reason to strive for the best future with what you have. And maybe one day, we will meet again."
The massive machinauts stepped back, a few other equally powerful and ornate machinauts stepped into the room and performed an unique salute at the Fallen King. An ancient gesture never saw by the living eyes in the present.
The illusion soon faded, Fallen King looked backed into the hands of Holt.

Holt shakes KV-103's hand, and returns his hand to his side. He gets the feeling KV-103 had some sort of moment, judging by the slight pause. After the handshake, he nods to Ignem, and then turns to leave.
"...ahem! Ah, there we go." Arvaken's voice can be heard again. "That battle was dangerous and my Sprites had to make themselves scarce before it heated up. Now, Holt. That spear... it's only strong against the Apocrea, if I'm correct?"
Holt nods, slowly.
"Then both us and the Machinauts will need to find weapons to combat the Swarm." Arvaken says, "I expect Holt shall be quite busy watching out for any Apocrean stragglers left in that Harvester's wake. I'm afraid much of my time has been spent guarding the rift, and I know little of such a weapon."
"As it happens," IS-M44 says, "We just got a few leads along that line from the Stark Citadel data. They point toward a part of the Almirian sector. I'll brief the Advance Force on it as soon as we finish working out what we've found."
"Almire... Yes, they were once a kingdom where peace and order was the norm- and order is the antithesis of the Swarm's Chaos. I've got a feeling you will have some luck there."

"That was..." KV-103, still stunned by the strange flash back, rewind the recording suite, only to find the footage of the past few minutes are filled with statics.
"What was that?" KV-103 speculated, "A part of the ancient technology that made up my system must had reacted to the presence of the Apocrean energy. Just as it can manipulate time, so did it manipulated my perception of it."
"The realm of Almire," KV-103 followed up on Arvaken's comment, "the eternal ever burning hell space where the vainglorious king vanaduke resided. Where can we find there other than smoke and cinder?"
"Well, the Citadel itself is smoke and cinder, as you say. But the outskirts should be less dangerous. If I hear right, they've found some lost treasures of Almire, few and far between though they are. I assume your friend refers to an area in that region."
IS-M44 says, "Yep. The outskirts are still fire-blasted ruins with no trace of the Almirian people, but they don't burn as harshly, and Undead are usually less frequent. The farther you get from the Citadel and Vanaduke, the less the curse affects the place, the more that wild Beasts and other creatures have moved in and plants have begun to grow again, and the more items that turn out to have survived the blaze. I've also heard that Vanaduke was slain in battle with the Isorans. Every time the curse of the Citadel forces him to rise again, the Isorans return and slay him, and return him to his rest."
"But there's one area in particular that isn't remotely a burning wasteland." IS-M44 says, "It's just an empty crater. There's no signs of fire, no signs of corpses, very few Undead... just a crater. Three things give that crater significance. One, near that crater, there's an old Gremlin artificer who lives on a hill, only rarely trading with the Great Colony; she's often crafting weapons and armor, so she may have some information on improving five-star weaponry. Two, you remember Karilius? We found some Owlite records on expeditions to the Candlestick Keep that were written by his apprentice, and they place Karilius right at that crater during the Fall of Almire- and the Owlites might have some information on the subject as well. But the big one?"
"Well, remember the sensor relays that woke you guys up? One of them is nearby. The data indicated that the Swarm tried to infect that area during the Shadow Lair incursion. They failed, but the sensor relay data doesn't point to why. If we find out what stopped them, we might be able to find it." IS-M44 says, "Failing that, we can always fortify the crater and use it as a forward base against the Swarm. 'Urban' warfare- for lack of a better term- would be the norm around Almire, and the crater would be the best alternative."

"Those Xenos slayed Vanaduke?" KV-103 questioned, "An admirable but ultimately futile effort... they should have avoided that area altogether. I remember old tales of Ultranaut legion launched a purging campaign in that area thousands of years ago. One thousand strong went in, only eight ever returned..."
"I guess now we know the fate of Karilius..." KV-103 commented, "But what peculiar place to bury one of high regard? In the middle of a crater... owlites sure had strange burial rituals."

I have a feeling the Apocrea might go after us since we thwarted their plot here, but for now Dragonspire is safe. Had he succeeded, the new regime would be writing the history books."

"So, our next duty is to investigate the crater near the remains of Almire." I said. "I haven't been able to use my espionage components since the coup attempt as that was a more urgent manner, but I'll see if I can intercept radio calls made by the Isorans and see what I come up with."

Me and Doctorspacebar decided to do an MST together. It was all written before Chapter 4 ended, so the only schedule slips will be my laziness and lack of memory, but hopefully I can keep to a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule. The rest of this week is going to be stressful for me, since I want to draw once a day, but I also have to prepare the MSTs for posting on the forums & my tumblr, which takes a while (especially the forums one, as it's an absolute mess of HTML tags).
And boy do things get crazy in that MST. I guess that could tide you over during Machinauts downtime, once I start posting the chapters. Fortunately, that's tomorrow. I'm trying to time it to make one joke in one segment of the MST make sense in the original context.

Ignem: "Hold up, so all those things I saw and heard...were just hallucinations?"
Gatrnerd: "Yup! They didn't exist."
Ignem: "That doesn't make sense."
Gatrnerd: "Oh trust me, that's the most sensible part of this all. The less sensible part is the content of said hallucinations does not translate to reality, because that reality is a fork we've cut off."
Ignem: "Uh..."
Gatrnerd: "Now, I get what you're thinking, "Gatrnerd are you drunk again?" and you would be correct if it was possible to get drunk on Coca-Cola Zero. So, there are trillions of alternate timelines and universes where things are different, but only three are considered fixed and will always remain even as others disappear."
Ignem: "Why would they even disappear?"
Gatrnerd: "Because tracking too many results in headaches, so it's better to just stop tracking them, which means we lose them entirely because they usually fall apart afterwards."
Ignem: "What."
Gatrnerd: "Trust me, it doesn't make sense to me as well!"
Ignem: "So all those hallucinations were a fork of this timeline you cut off. HOW MANY TIMELINES DID YOU DESTROY!?"
Gatrnerd: "Oh, just a little under 20,000. Let's say 19,742."
Ignem: "You destroyed 19,742 universes!?"
Gatrnerd: "Yep."
Ignem: "So why was I able to see that fork you destroyed, you madman?"
Gatrnerd: "Because I hadn't consider killing that fork at the time and only did it after I wrote those posts. The power of retcon has terrifying consequences when abused."
Ignem: "I think we have a winner in exterminatus here. Nothing else comes close."
Gatrnerd: "But we're derailing the topic. After you bruteforced that rar, Kaan attempted his coup with the backing of Maledict and got rekt for his efforts."
Ignem: "So where do we go from here?"
Gatrnerd: "Nowhere, as long as Doctorspacebar is still trying to get all the five-star gear out of the door."
Ignem: "...I seriously hope this doesn't mean I'm alone with you until he's done. If that's the case, I am so expunging this incident from my memory as soon as I can."

"Machinauts!" Boost rushes in, Alchemy Machine under his arm, and sets it down, gasping for breath. "I started... running this way... as soon as... I heard you won! ...And now I... need to catch my breath."
Boost takes a deep breath, then says, "There we go. Listen, I got my five-star recipes. And I'm sure you've found the ingredients to use them, correct? One thing to know: This stuff is top notch! The gear catches heat like normal, but we don't know how to use the heat to improve it yet. We Strangers are researching ways to use Radiant Fire Crystals on them like before, though, so keep picking up as much heat as you can find, because there may soon be a way to use it. Now, uh, M44... are they authorized for the..."
"Obsidian Weapons?" IS-M44 says, "If they feel it's necessary. Advance Force, Obsidian Weapons can be made from those shards you've been finding around Dragonspire. They'll deal Nameless damage that can pierce most defenses, but there's a problem with them. The Obsidian component, at the bare minimum required to change the damage type, is just small enough to make the weapon ornery. Occasionally, the weapon will resist your intentions, and while ten different failsafes are in place to prevent it from hitting your allies, there's a very real chance the weapon won't activate properly."
"However, this CAN be mitigated somewhat by Doom resistance!" Boost nods. "If you craft an Obsidian weapon, make sure you've got a little Doom Resistance. Of course, you don't need to craft them, I've got your normal reliable weapons right here... say, what's that noise?"
The Snarbolax Pup walks into the room, causing Boost to shout in alarm- but it does not move to attack. It looks at you, nods slowly, raises its tail in the air- and then it leaves. You don't pick it up on radar.
"By the Sleeper's spleen!" Boost says, "That was a Snarbolax Pup!"
"What do you think it wants?" Squad asks.
"Who knows..." Boost sighs with relief. "At least it isn't going to come back. The Snarbolax is terrifying."
"It is. And yet, it was one reason we were able to win the day. I suppose it understands that as well." IS-M44 adds, "It also understands we've set about activating some Beast Bells, so there IS that..."
"...whew! Well, without any further ado, go forth, conquering heroes, and spend, spend, spend!"

But before Ricky "Gatrnerd" Everglade can fix the fourth wall, the annoying narrator from the Clockwork Catastrophe remake returns to describe actions in this joke intermission.
Gatrnerd: "Ugh, not you again!"
Blame the man in the wall.

???: "About that, I have a spoilery haunting that's annoying me a lot. I can't say much or my clanmate will know."
Out of the broken fourth wall, a peculiar figure emerges, a Mesa-class Warframe.

Tenno Gatrnerd: "Yup. There's probably plenty more, considering how cause and effect fall apart when that moniker is brought up."
Ignem: "So what you're saying is, is that the Gatrnerd I've been talking to...is nothing more than his avatar."
Ricky: "That's the truth. I'm pretty sure my "admirer" is going to panic when he sees this. He needs to stop stalking me."
But at this moment, Ignem stops working. This revelation makes no sense to her.
Tenno Gatrnerd: "That dragon...was it Floyd Atacama or Lloyd Mojave? Don't say that around him, he's probably going to react very badly to that."
Ricky: "I haven't bothered to ask him for his name yet. Also, it appears Ignem is displaying a blue screen of death. I wonder what the error is...?"
Ignem: "A fatal exception TOO_MUCH_NONSENSE has occurred at CPU in Logic Proccessor. The current application will be terminated.

Ricky: "Oops. Too many Gatrnerds at once breaks that Machinaut. Keep it at one?"
Tenno Gatrnerd: "Nah, give her some time to reboot and realize this is the space beyond the fourth wall, so if anything makes no sense, it's because it's where logic goes to die. Just like my attempts to open all my Void Relics."
Unbeknownst to the three, Lloyd was listening in the whole time. The dragon is quite surprised to learn of his crush's identity crisis...

Ignem: "Okay, that was strange. I crashed from too much nonsense. I shouldn't think about that too much."

Ricky: "I should patch up the fourth wall. The real Gatrnerd couldn't fix it after A Knight's Tale and had to kick everyone out in order to alleviate the problem, which could've destroyed the fabric of spacetime if we loitered here."
Ignem: "But that hasn't happened yet! That only happened in the last two posts, which won't be posted until the 20th of November!"
Real Gatrnerd: "About that...yeah, I failed to fix it. I had to make some workaround error handlers to avoid having everything fall apart behind the scenes, which could've been disastrous and killed us all. Unfortunately, fixing it requires a major shift in status quo for it to work, which is either destroying a fixed timeline or..."
Ricky: "...NO, WE ARE NOT DOING THAT!"
Lloyd: "Sigh...I can't spit it out."
Real Gatrnerd: "It's going to happen in the future, like it or not."

"What's it doing here?" I asked in confusion. With no reply and the beast absconding from the area, I feel absolutely confused.
"But now, what to upgrade...?" I thought, changing my attention to the opportunity to craft.
"After all of the time Apocrea had threatened us... " KV-103 asked IS-M44, "Are you sure about using their weapons against our enemies? For all we known any of us could be the next mirror knight..."

I wouldn't approve them at all if it was a deal with the Apocreans, like the contract they gave the Mirror Knight. But the weapons only utilize materials... Still, if you can keep a good variety of weapons, you won't need the Obsidian weapons, as their main draw is the Nameless damage. It hits enemies through their defenses. If we could make a weapon like H's Liberator, that would be preferable..."
H scratches his head, and looks in the direction of the Stark Citadel.
"Stark Citadel... Do they have more than one of those? Actually, I'll have HOLM-35 look into it... A part of that spear is one of Karilius's orbs, though. Which leads us back to that crater."

((It's an easy enough inference. Using up a finisher causes you to use up energy so you can't do another one immediately after, and Wrecch would know this, being obsessed with combat as he is. He was aware that Ignem was just in a battle with an Apocrean, and she still had a finisher ready; he assumed she had beaten the Apocrean without the finisher.))

They aren't quite legal, but most of them are not remotely affiliated with Wrecch.
