You don't.
Either way, I hope you're not bringing that Magnus into the jelly palace : / do you think the alleged ability to snipe the three or four Silkwings you'll see before the boss makes it worth it?
You don't.

I haven't tried to do a Jelly run since I got the Magnus. I have an extra weapon slot though. Would I be better off using a sword in there for Jelly? If so, what's a good sword to have to compliment what I'm already equipped with?
The general consensus seems to be that you want a Vile Striker or Dread Venom Striker for Royal Jelly.
With that said, I've heard good things about the Toxic Catalyzer/Virulent Catalyzer/Biohazard line of guns being used against RJ.
Gunners have solo'd royal jelly. Use your shadow dmg gun. I don't think it's your equipment that's the issue, it's your strategy and your vial loadout.
@Repair
Whichever you are going to be using it for. Biohazard is Shadow damaging with poison, Neutralizer is normal damaging. If you need a gun for slimes get a Biohazard, if you want a gun that's great for kiting and has a nice AoE charge that you will use for everything, get a Neutralizer
@Eiin
As you can see from my current arsenal, I have actually made the 5* Venom Catalyzer (Biohazard) part of my personal loadout over the Umbra. After using the Umbra for a long time I really wanted something different, and as of now I'm saying that the Biohazard is the best gun for dealing with jellies, and the poison status is great for when the gremlin menders are around. I do miss the Umbra's quick bullets so I can hit some of the pesky gremlins, but it's not hard to get used to the slow projectiles of the Catalyzer.
@Pika_power
It's not very fun trying to gun the big ol' Jelly King. The only effective way I found was to treat the gun as a sword and go up close. The Royal minis will just block all of the bullets from hitting JK at a range, and I have been able to do well against him by using a Pepperbox, but it's about as useful as using a cutter for that matter. I tried using Biohazard, with and without charge it's quite difficult to get the damage you need. The poison from the charged explosions sometimes comes in handy, but a lot of times you will tag a mini with the charge and will need to aim for it before it gets clumped up deep in the pack.
What would be a perfect Gunslinger setup overall? With any UV's you want etc.
I thought about the Nameless set with Med ASI UV's on the guns, but I don't know if ASI is really worth it. Maybe just go Nameless with the best UV's I can find and then get Guns with VH vs the mobs I plan to use them on? Slimes for Shadow etc.
Also, are the new guns worth getting or are they all out damaged by for example a Nova Driver?
Hi guys!!
nowadays I obtained a pulsar, and come to the elemntal/elecrtic path.. Now I have a kilowatt, Its fun for me use it with shivermist,
and I have a 4**** gunslinger set... Im planig to go for the polaris 5*,
Question 1:
Now I obtained a "damage vs beast low" on my kilowat, do i have to kep it? or try to obtain a better UV ?
Question 2:
for these new guns (pulsar and catalizer), is more important the IAS / or the Damage bonus; obtained from gunslinger 5* armors ?
I made myself a kilowatt pulsar, and noticed something....
the far (expanded) shots deal blue damage on the lumber (and all other constructs)...
NORMAL DAMAGE?
well, for example, it deals 39 damage to them lumbers...
while my short shots deal red 45 damage per shot.....
is this a bug or something? because really, if those far shots deal normal, what was the reason i chose the elemental damage path of pulsar....
anyone can help about this?
I also have the killowatt pulsar, and in bug reports, a admin has confirmed that this is a bug, they have a fix for it, an it will be fixed in the next update we have.
Would Quicksilver make good armor for a gunslinger?
@Reactions
I don't want to sound like an elitist, but the weapon setup I have right now is something I'm very happy about. I wouldn't want to change much other than maybe have a VH CTR Shivermist and maybe VH vs Slime on my Biohazard (though gremlin is just as nice). As for the armor I'm still not sure what I'm wanting. It's either going to be Maximum Normal defense for both pieces, or Maximum Elemental on both (Nameless). I still need to do more testing to find out if there's a defense limit.
I think I've already gone over the new guns but I'll go over it again for people that are just skimming over some of the posts. I like the Biohazard enough that I would rather have it over an Umbra Driver, the splash damage is amazing in tight groups and it has decent DPS even without the charge. The poison is just a bonus on top of that. I do like the Polaris, but it's not good enough as support to overtake my Storm Driver. The knockback screws up swordsmen and it covers up a big part of the screen when spamming it.
@Nox
Damage bonus low is pretty small as it is, and since you have a Kilowatt it does elemental beasts resist your shots anyway. And on top of that it's going to be a chore trying to hit wolvers with the slow bullets. Honestly, that's the worst possible UV you could get on that gun in my opinion. Reroll for a chance at a better UV unless you just like having a UV for the sake of it.
The IAS bonuses on the Catalyzer and Pulsar don't do much. The fire rate is so fast that I can barely notice a change with the nameless set on. But If you are deciding between armor, get the armor with the defense you want, not the bonus you want. The Shadowsun is great for Royal Jelly Palace, since it has piercing defense and there is nothing there to deal poison or curse (unless using a Faust). But all in all, the Low damage bonus is too small compared to having elemental defense along with medium IAS.
@nox2go
Similar to what I said above, get the armor for defense, not the bonuses. I do believe that the Quicksilver is a good piercing defense armor, the shock resist is a good resist as well. If the speed bonus from the Mercurial set is what you're after, don't bother. The speed bonus is so tiny it's not going to make a difference, gunslinging or not.
@Revoler
I believe I've found a way to effective use the pulsars as support weapon, although this might be more applicable to the elemental line than the normal line (since the normal line doesn't cause status effects). Keep in mind I've only gotten down to Emberlight and lack the gear to go further.
When your swordsmen are getting up close and personal, act like a swordsman: be right up there with them firing non-expanded shots that still do shock and damage without knocking back or fililng up the screen (I believe the shots look identical to a prismatech alchemer's shots before expanding).
When you see your swordsmen taking damage and need some help, back up and give them cover by knocking monsters away from them. I've found that the AOE on the pulsar is not so big as to be uncontrollable, and I can easily keep multiple monsters at bay from wounded swordsmen with the fast fire rate.
I also enjoy how the pulsar's exploding rounds can do damage when they explode without actually hitting anything. It makes shooting to the left or right of a mob not a waste of a bullet, as well as allowing you to "herd" mobs in a certain direction instead of just "away from you."
Regarding the slow bullets of the catalyzer and pulsar, I believe that it actually becomes, with practice, much easier to use. because of the fact that you can fire a dense clump of bullets, you can actually cause Gremlins and Wolvers to dodge into the bullets or even into the charge shots if you do it right. Personally, once they fix the bug, the Kilowatt Pulsar will replace my Cryotech Alchemer Mk II just because Iron Munitions factory has made me HATE bullet ricochet (SWITCHEEEEEEEEEEES!).
P.S. I followed your advice and am now rocking a Toxic Catalyzer and Cryotech Mk. II, along with a Gunslinger Sash. I'm holding off on getting the magnus for now until my shield and helm are 3*. Thanks a lot!
How many charged shots can you have on a single enemy, using the catalyzer?
piercing armor defense? for JK runs?
Jk RUNS ? NOW? it dont do money now... since the last patch
@jp12365
A monster can hold an unlimited number of charged shots. However, they wear off after 20 seconds. So the maximum you can have by yourself on a monster is about 18-20 depending on how efficient your charging technique is.
HOWEVER, multiple people can stack up to n*20 charges on a monster, effectively allowing a 4-Catalyzer party to stack about 80 charges on a giant lichen colony.
Boom.
what kind of gun would you recommend for a mostly sword user using da/gf?
it could be a supporting weapon of some sort, or maybe something that would help cover a weakness?
That's not possible.
about 1 second to charge, 1 second to release/make contact.
more like 8-10 charges.
;/
Got two questions. First, how would a Grey Owlite with Max Ele be as a Gunslinger shield? Would you rather have Max Shadow/Normal?
(I'm planning to use Nameless set so maybe I already got enough Elemental damage).
Secondly, which gun does the most damage vs Vanaduke?
Is it Callahan or AP?
Here's a speculative question. What kind of gun do you think has an advantage in PvP, past or future?
Knowing most competitive multiplayer games, ranged damage is a huge advantage when fighting genuinely intelligent enemies. So I expect guns to see some heavy use in PvP once it is added, considering as well that in the preview Sentenza was very popular.
What do you think? Would the mobility, and sprayability, of the Antigua line be enough to keep it a dominant force when facing other players? Or Valiance/pulsar for knock-back? Or Alchemers for status effects?
hello
iron slug callahan
ive just read this:
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/15843#comment-90899
i got the 2 antigua weaps and a needle, so i really just wana say screw piercing, my ASI is maxed when im using guns
of course wondering which path to go, i play casually and was interested in the enemy attack interrupt
instead of opinions, recommendations and speculations i only wana know the facts aka. the differences, especially about interrupting differences
if u dont hav the iron slug yet, im willing to wait and ill keep checking in whenever the answer is ready
ty and nice thread (=
@timanth
That's actually a really good way of using the pulsar, this may take some skill as the swordsman could knockback the enemy making your shots explode also with them constantly shield bumping and what not. If your talking about literally being point blank then I don't agree with doing so, support from a range, being up close brings a whole different issue, especially as a gunslinger. Also, the 5* pulsars gain larger explosions and even bigger effects to cover up the screen making it even harder to deal with. I like your method of play, I may need to start getting used to it since I'm on my way to getting a Supernova myself.
Also that bit you're talking about the slow bullets, I never said I had problems using them. I simply said it will be a chore to hit wolvers. Gremlins aren't much of an issue since they usually dodge backwards, and since the bullets are slow enough they will still get hit. Wolvers on the other hand dodge sideways or teleport dig.
@Tenlki
It doesn't take a whole second to fire the charge shot, and you can start charging before the bullet makes contact as well so that shouldn't be a factor. Having med CTR shaves off a second or two, you can get at least 15 charges to explode if you can get the timing down.
@Reactions
I think for a gunslinger max shadow would be great. The biggest threat I have personally is devilites, they have a really strong shadow range attack that is really quick. A large group of them usually smash my shield into bits, as well as Kats that have a scary range attacks in T3, which is the main reason I'm getting a Blackened Crest. What type of armor you have doesn't mean anything, a shield is pretty much an entire different piece of equipment.
As for straight damage, a Blitz Needle will do the most damage. Between Callahan and the AP the Callahan will do a little more damage since it's pure piercing, which is what Vanaduke is weak against. Stun happens to help out teammates more than not as well. Though if you aren't experienced with Vana, it may be hard to use the Callahan. Once you learn the patterns and how to maneuver against him it gets easier to use. the AP is going to be quite easy to use, you can just spam it from a range while strafing.
@Thrull
Well I have no idea what PVP will be like in the future, the entire thing may turn out differently than anyone expects so it's too early to say exactly. If the PVP is very similar to the preview then you will probably want to be bringing a Sentenza. The reason it did so well back then is because no one had shadow or piercing defense, and since the Sentenza has good mobility you can chase down guys that run away from you. Though people will most likely bring mixed sets, shadow defensive or some mixed defense. Anyway, I'll probably touch back on this when it's actually released.
@BiggestLoser
You're going to need to be a little more clear on what you're asking. Iron Slug vs Callahan is pretty easy, there are much better alternatives for a normal damaging weapon, and Callahan is mostly used for fiends and wolvers which are quite dodgy foes. The extra damage is going to benefit much more, and the stun effect is a little bonus.
i wana know if both guns have the exact same power at suspending enemy attacks
Alright I need advice on which gun to go for next..
Right now I have: (only 1 gun)
Fearless Rigadoon Sword
Shadow Driver 4 stars Very High UV vs Constucts
Shivermist
Ash of Agni
Avenger
I am leaning towards the pulsar but I'm not sure if I should go the shock route or not.. I also am considering going for an argent peacemaker but i'm not sure.
Basically as of right now my shadow driver seems to be awesome for everything but the Fire Storm Citadel...
Also should I upgrade my shadow driver to an umbra? I heard the Umbra driver is not as good?!
@M_Yaa_M: It would help if you can tell us what kind of play style you use.
my play style usually revolves around me using bombs or my shadow driver as I don't really get hit much unless I pull out my sword.
I just got my virulent catalyzer. It seems too slow for anything but slimes! Are there ways I can compensate for it's slow speed? It's a cool gun. I wish it was better. What are your strategies with your Biohazard?
For gremlins, aim behind them (they dodge backwards). If you get them near a wall, they'll be trapped.
There are some monsters you probably shouldn't try to kill with catalyzers though:
Wolvers, devilites, kats.
You can hit wolvers if you bait the attack charge, but in t3, it's way too annoying to try to land shots.
In T3, shoot-shield can keep wolvers busy teleporting and since you can run behind your shots while they continue to dodge, you can use the time to switch to a sword or more useful gun, if you're a pure gunner.
-----
About the charge shot timing thing:
I counted some invisible travel time for the bullets (maybe half a second).
-----
Something of interest:
I made a normal catalyzer-line weapon (to pair up with my biohazard :D) and in the middle of upgrading, got CTR low (haha!); I just made it into a Neutralizer so when I get it to lvl 10, I'll post up damage values and stuff.
Very simple question, what guns have given you success with an increased attack speed bonus?
I currently have a Master Blaster for kiting and a Strike Needle for dealing with large mobs while my friends are around. I used to be using Wolver armor because I was an idiot and didn't understand that it was only good with melee weapons, but even after getting the Sunset Duster and Sunset Stetson, I honestly can't tell a difference in the fire rate.
I'm strongly considering moving up to the Shadowsun series simply for the attack damage bonus. I intend to get a Poison-line Catalyzer in the near future, and was wondering if it would assist with that either.
Thanks :D
Should I keep using the Shadowtech gun or change to Voltech or Pismatech line? Because the other tech lines looks more like all arround use.
@ NeonTiger: Most people try to avoid the reload of guns with two shots per clip by the shoot-pause-shoot method. With the increased attack speed bonus, shoot-shoot-reload is faster and more effective. You still have to be careful for the sake of shielding but it is worth it.
Increased attack speed works best when you shoot the entire clip of a gun in a continuous stream. You can use it effectively with the Strike Needle if you maximize your spacing and avoid getting surrounded. It can work with the Master Blaster as well but you have to shoot the full clip for the bonus to make a difference.
EDIT: I mistakenly confused the Shadowsun set with the Deadshot set. Poison weakness is a big deal for the Shadowsun set. Getting poisoned reduces your attack, reduces your defense, and prevents the ability to heal. Getting poisoned will at least partially counteract the bonus damage while causing other problems. Curse weakness can make dealing with Phantoms in graveyards extremely difficult but you can always choose Tiers that don't have possible graveyards along the way.
As far as IAS goes for catalyzers, I sometimes switch between a no IAS bonus set and an IAS:Ultra set-
It does affect the time your shooting animations take, so for example, with no IAS, if I release the charge and immediately try to detonate it, the charge will detonate on the enemy's left side. With IAS ultra, the charge will detonate at about a 10-o'clock position.
So, if say, you were a poor/cheap s.o.b. such as myself, which two guns would you roll with? (anyone may answer haha)
@Skaiwalka
I'm currently running two alchemers (elemental and shadow), although it can be a little frustrating with the constant ricochets (Roarmulus Twins).
I'm also a "poor/cheap s.o.b." that has near-constant energy problems.
I came upon a Needle Shot by pure luck from a crate. I was thinking of selling it and probably using the money for energy while it's cheap (15k or so from the Needle Shot -> around 300 energy). I feel like that would be a waste though, and that I should keep it for later.
What do you think I should do?
What are the best and most efficient guns for each damage type? Don't include double damage type guns so no AP or Sentenza.
Normal - Iron Slug or Valiance or Volcanic Pepperbox or Supernova or Neutralizer
Piercing - Callahan or Blitz Needle
Elemental - Nova Driver or Magma Driver or Storm Driver or Hail Driver or Polaris
Shadow - Umbra Driver or Biohazard
@Skaiwalka
Voltech Alchemer/Storm Driver (efficient vs constructs, undead and slimes)
+
Magnus/Callahan (efficient vs beasts, gremlins and fiends)
I haven't tested Pulsar yet but I think you can replace or supplement Storm Driver with Polaris at some point.
I was thinking along the same lines. Thanks fellas.

Just a note, but (correct me if I'm wrong, gun vets) the autoguns have the highest DPS, if you can get all their bullets to hit - and moreso if you end up with CTR. But as far as situations, the Magnus line is better for dodging enemies (gremlins/wolvers/devilites) since it interrupts and/or knocks them down.
@ Skaiwalka:
Just be aware that you will have trouble with that setup if you run into Quicksilvers. You can avoid Shock strata but they do appear in other places like the Ironclaw Munitions Factory.
Ya that's true.
I usually roll with at least one other friend though.
@Skaiwalka
For normal damage - Valiance. The knock back is good, 3 shots per clip. No immobility associated with the gun, which is very important. You have to stop moving to fire the Iron Slug, just like the Callahan, which imo makes the gun bad since any time you can't move, and can't shield, a devilite will spawn to throw a chair in your face.
Elemental - Polaris (pulsar) line is my favorite here. I just dropped my Storm Driver from my weapon line up completely in favor of the Polaris. In groups or solo the gun just dominates imo. The range is amazing, with easy to predict aoe damage. If you get creative you can use it's knock back in almost any direction you want, pulling mobs away from walls, off spikes, holding them in corners, locking them out of a corridor... Pulsar line has the BEST utility imo. On top of that, the 3 shot clip gives it the superior damage I believe guns have been NEEDING.
Shadow - I have an Umbra and I'm gonna make the Biohazard soon. I can't comment for sure on this one, but I'm taking Revolver's recommendation and trying it out. Alchemers I think are MOSTLY limiting with their 2 shot clips compared to these new guns. The shoot - shield - shoot you need to do to stay alive 90% of the time really caps their damage potential. These 3 shot clip guns allow you to fire twice while keeping your shield ready and fire 3 times when you don't which can really mean something.
Piercing damage - Callahan all the way. I love this gun. It is difficult to use... so be ready for some learning curve if you haven't worked with this gun yet. It is THE gun for wolvers and devilites imo, and can even be useful on goblin menders to prevent them from healing and running away with it's knock up. I use it through fsc on all the trojans and vana. The damage is high and when you inflict stun it can make things a lot easier (for it's duration at least XD)
My loadout is typically 2x guns and 2x bombs. Almost always polaris and shivermist + situational. Callahan / Umbra for 2nd gun and Agni / Voltaic for the bomb.
Hm, decisions decisions. I know for sure I'll get a Callahan. Kinda difficult to say which to back it up with. Thinking Storm Driver or Polaris will be my best bet. Unless I'm able to afford opening some weapon slots (and getting the other guns themselves). I'm pretty poor right now, just finished my Vog. So to start gunning I have to start from the beginning pretty much. haha
I just got the catalyzer after getting the pulsar first, and BOY is the charge fun to use. Before I even got it I stumbled upon the toxic catalyzer recipe in basil. I totally plan on upgrading. I have the killowatt and I love this one too. Now since I have an Avenger Silent nightblade catalyzer and killowatt pulsar, my freezing atomizer bomb is not getting used! Noooooo. I need a 5th slot!!
Oh Revolver, I don't know if you ever finished getting your data, but I have a lv 10 Biohazard and Neutralizer and compared their damage.
On neutral enemies, they deal the same exact damage with their regular shots (of course, Biohazard has a chance to poison).
The main difference in power comes from the charge attack. Biohazard's is weaker but has a chance to poison, while Neutralizer does a little more damage. I had a catalyzer general thread that I'm still updating silently, but here are some numbers for you:
Vs Construct (depth 19)
Oh, and a random piece of information that almost sounds obvious: Aside from damage values, the charge (after attaching) doesn't belong to you, or anybody, really. This comes as being obvious because other people can detonate your charges.
The important implication though, is that Damage Bonuses and Penalties don't affect your charge shots. So wearing Fallen Armor (fiend penalty v.high) doesn't affect neutralizer's charge damage, and having damage bonus UV's won't affect your charge shot either.
wow thx for that info Tenlki
Hey Revolver!
Great post.
Question regarding your item choices.
IF you were to adapt your standard set into an all purpose set for those of us that haven't yet justified the cost of upgrade slots, would you still keep everything roughly the same? IE:
Nameless Hat/Poncho
Dragon Scale Shield
Callahan and possibly....Storm Driver? Or would you still prefer Biohazard?
As an aspiring gunslinger I highly enjoy this topic.
At the moment, I have 3 weapon slots and am using:
Ascended Calibur
Cryo Driver
Toxic Catalyzer.
I also have a pulsar which I haven't used/upgraded yet. Which path should I follow? Obviously if I go for the Polaris route the Cryo Driver has to go, which I really like, but might end up being better. Supernova would be nice as a 4th weapon I think, or if I go pure gunslinger instead of my sword for decent all-round damage.
I'm leaning towards Supernova at the moment just because I can reliably do decent damage spamming it around (and it seems like the perfect weapon for running away from stuff frantically spamming shots into large groups). Anyone have any experience with it or both paths?
A swordsman covering you with his shield up. He should take care of enemies if they get too close.
How does one effectively gun the Jelly King, be it solo or in a group? I tried, but I got mobbed by the jellies in the corner and died when I tried it on my own, and we all ended up defeated when we did it as a group.
Also, people have a strange habit of quitting right before the boss, leaving me in a half-full party with no way of having others join.
I have Magnus, Cryotech MKII, Shadowtech MKII and Gunslinger.
