The size of the company
The size of the company betting its chips on a game is inversely proportional to the chances of any suggestions being considered by its developers. It has nothing to do with the number of developers, how busy they are, how many fans there are, how focused their voice is, how respectable or literate they are, or their ability to directly contact the developers. This is the trend I've observed.
I actually don't care that strongly either way about this initiative, but it's certainly not a bad idea. This should've been implemented long ago, or even with the release of missions. FAIL @ Sega.

You've lost nothing. New players get up to two Helm accessories, Eyes and a Height Modifier, if they so choose. It's all cosmetic. New players are not receiving preferential treatment. They just came at the right time. Imagine if new players made a 8+ rage thread asking OOO to rerelease the Rose Regalia events because they "are screwing new players over"?

LOL, I can't imagine what they'd be scared of. Eight pages of "we jelly" has no real effect on OOO. Maybe if a significant portion of the playerbase stopped paying and playing they might. Or, you know, if this "mistake" of theirs had any effect on gameplay or progression. Additionally, you don't deserve an apology because OOO has done nothing to you. New players get a minor cosmetic advantage? Is that really a big enough deal to demand an apology? "I'm sorry you came too early to the game and missed out a few things new players enjoy?".
I'm not a programmer but I'd imagine being able to recreate your character would be difficult. When people were raging over being able to change your player colour they suggested similar things, but the Personal Colour Paint was much better. How would you even suggest they make it so that older players can touch some of the unbridled privilege new players flaunt at you all day?

I joined Spiral Knights not too long ago, though I have to say that veterans deserve the new start content just as much as I do. They deserve it even more as I do, as they found and played the game much earlier and much longer than i did so far. Forbidding them the access to new content because of this seems complete nonsense to me.

When I first saw the announcement I was a little peeved, but then I got over it when I saw the accessories offered were pretty common. I have a fully accessorised Spiral Sallet which looks far better than I could make on Character Creation.
Whenever a new tutorial for a game gets released, know what I do? Make a new alt, play through the tutorial then quit and delete the alt if you can, or never use it again. Simple. You've still experienced it. And unless you're going to accessorise the helmet for costume, (I would say armour but there are much better ones available) you won't be needing the gear you start with. If you chose "ugly" armour, that's your own fault, but there is the Volt/Fire/Ice breaker series of armour which offers as a neat substitute.
As for eyes and height, if you've been playing long enough you can afford those within a few Vanaduke runs easily. Neither of those offer significant advantage to the game - it's more of a luxury which nobody really notices unless someone inspects you or has a look on the player lineup at the end of a Tier or mission.
And if new proto armour's getting released soon, let the newbies have it. If it looks good though I hope another "breaker" set gets released as a substitute.
