When I first started SK, it was the perfect game to me, and I was a die-hard OOO supporter for a long while. I invested a lot of money and time into the game.

Today, I find myself bored by SK, disliking OOO, and regretting my investments.
When the bad decisions started flowing, I thought it would get better, and kept my hope in OOO. Oh hell no.
Back when SK was at its peak, a promo had a 100% chance of giving a promo item, gates were actually used, the CE market was vaguely stable, and we actually had fun. The point of the game was to amass knowledge and discover all the levels and experiment with gear.

It all started with the accessories, and silver keys. As much as I like fashion, I must disagree with the current accessory model.
From then on, it only got worse. UV rolling, shadow keys, unbinds, missions, and vanity promos. Even worse when those vanity promos started giving you worthless UV tickets all the time. The point of the game changed to pimping out your knight as much as possible and farming FSC endlessly to gain money for that. It's no longer about the clockworks, it's about the accessories, a dress up game, a very costly dress up game. I'm definitely not the person you'd expect to say that, but it's true. I do enjoy my knight to look good, but this is taken too far.

The upcoming guild and haven updates and the danger missions are a good example of what should we do. We did have good updates, but it could be a lot better.

It's sad. SK/OOO were like a close friend to me. But then your friend grows up and starts doing drugs and going to brothels and ends up in jail and you regret borrowing him your money and spending time with him. :L
Please educate yourself on methapors if you want to complain about mine.

Don't get me wrong, I still think SK is a wonderful game and I am aware that the crew is working hard on the good kind of updates, but we are getting too much vanity shoved down our troaths and the clockworks are left in ruin.

Consider this though.

Too be fair, OOO is always working on things like Danger Missions or big content like the impending Guild update. Those take a long time though. Costume promos like this are really cheap (dev time wise) to make and add something new to the game. Also, since Sega bought OOO, they have had more say as to when and what promos are (like UV tickets in your boxes).

As for the CE market, it's stable, but undesirable. Don't blame OOO, blame the rich dudes who price wall it into oblivion.

@Choobski Face it, promos aren't as interesting as before, the costumes are just redecos of existing armor sets. Remember the Metal Sonic promo? To me, that one was interesting. The nemesis promo, with the Infernal/Heavenly cobalt costumes too. But the rest..... I mean, disregarding the OCH, when was the last time they added new swords, or new shields, or armor sets to the game? THOSE would be more welcome, rather than some useless acessory.

Yeah.....Lockdown.....a game where only the players with the most UVs, heart trinkets, and FFs and Polarises actually come out winning. Everytime I play a match, it's only Striker Skolvers or Vog Cubs I see spamming their FFs. Blast Network (sans lag) is a lot more balanced than that.

I am not saying they are not working on big stuff. I know they are. But the amount of vanity stuff is immense compared to the actual gameplay stuff. When was the last time we got a new weapon line? Long ago. When was the last time we got vanity stuff? Yesterday.
I think they need to focus more on community suggestions and gameplay content, over vanity fillers.

I am sure they are reading it, and frowning to it, instead of taking a second to think it trough. I have heard that some high heads in OOO think the game is not appreciated. This is not the case, I am not saying "OOO SUX AND SHOULD GO BURN THEMSELVES AND THEIR GAME IS AN ATROCITY". I am saying "OOO has made a chain of bad decisions and should think more about their future actions because they are kicking their wonderful game in the balls."

The Autogun doesn't have a description, as well as many other items. Some icons are misleading and outdated in terms of colors. They would take 10 times less than accessories to fix. Why aren't they getting fixed, hmm? Now that's what I want to know.

This is the reason I don't play LD. It would be fun if it was balanced, AND I COULD INVITE FRIENDS. We had a goddamn spectate mode but we can't make a match with our friends. Now that's bullresidue.

Hey, OOO. Words of wisdom from Rangerwill. Nicely bolded. Think on them please. Actually, think on this whole thread, please. I'd love to enjoy your game and support you again. Heck, I have money that's not being used, I'd like you to have it. If you return SK to its former glory, of course. I will do my best to announce it to other players who have lost faith, like me, who are waiting to give you their money. We all know you care about money a lot, you've made it too obvious.

You can be the person who doesn't look at the truth and keeps yourself thinking you're having fun, or you can actually open your eyes and see that this game sucks other then lockdown.

Even if Three Rings devoted all of their effort to what you regard as important content, we would still gobble it up faster than they could produce it. When we run out of content, we should take a break until there is new content.

Three Rings has given us hundreds of hours of entertainment for free. They have not promised us unlimited entertainment for free. All good things must end (at least temporarily).

Way ahead of you, I love the game and all but they really hurt the "fun" of it when they replaced my RSS with gimped weapons. I don't know how any bomber plays LD with those things, its not like you have many viable bombs to choose from as it is.

The silly costumes do seem weird to me and I wish they would work on other things but I didn't really let them ruin my experience with the game as I solo a lot or only do runs with friends.

Really? OOO was your best friend and now is a drug using criminal? If you actually thought OOO was your friend then you have a lot to learn about this world. They pump out the promos and switched the chances up because it makes more money and therefore is a better business model for them. A business's sole purpose is to make money and the player base has voted with their wallets. This promo style is here to stay unless it makes less money than the other ones. For future reference businesses are not your friends despite what the commercials tell you.

I suggest you start a non-profit video game company and give away everything for free if it bothers you so much. Until then I'll be in the back alley with OOO picking up 'stutes.

I am fine with the promos. I do, however, have a single gripe with it all.

The UV tickets.

I am fine with these being bonus items, but as they are now, they can actually prevent you from getting any promo-related items at all, making you spend $10 worth on nothing. Until you have a 100% chance (and no less!) of getting a promotional exclusive item, I will not be satisfied. Heed my words, Three Rings. Remove the UV tickets from the 'hog-spot' and you will find that players will respond to your promos much more positively.

Look, you're free to have your opinions about promos, but I gotta ask: Do you genuinely think this, or are you just being simultaneously melodramatic and insulting as a rhetorical device to rile the crowd? Because I can tell you, the SK dev team is busting their behinds on things players have asked for, like the aforementioned guild features. Those features take a lot of work and a lot of time. No amount of armchair project management will change that. No amount of insulting speculation will change that. The dev team is putting in far more than 10 minutes a day on content and features that will be enjoyable to players (old timers AND newcomers).

How long does it take to Develop an apology for mistakes made?
How long does it take to remove/fix Stun?
How long does it take to put back Elemental damage?
How long does it take to not break things that were not broken to begin with?
How long does it take to compensate those that used/paid for the thing that ooo broke.
How long does it take to penalize those that took advantage of compensation scheme?

Defend all you want, but until these issues are resolved, the wallet stays closed.
Over a month, and still no real response to these issues.

Rangerwill, as much as I respect you from various previous posts, you're kinda way out of line. As someone with some programming experience, I can tell you that coding is hard and time consuming. You can't just "set bugs = 0;" Sometimes you have to check each one of hundreds of lines of code individually for errors and even then, you may not even be able to tell what's wrong until your 10th runthrough. It's not simple by any means. Besides that, I never understood how people could compare SK to other MMO's with respect to update intervals and content. OOO is a relatively small company with not nearly as many coders as Blizzard or some other MMO giant.

So then, they have been working on it for more than a year, which is when we started asking for them? The stun bug must be really hard to get repaired then. Most likely 3 hours a day are spent trying to fix it and other 3 more with the guild updates. Man, I can't wait to see the perfect fix of that bug and the impressive amount of content in guild features that is coming!

Thanks Tersakaff for posting this topic and talking in such coherent way. :/ I am starting to find harder to chill when talking about the game, and don't want to finish up as just a rager.

When you're tired of the game, take a break. Even a short one will do. Or you will end up as 'just a rager'. Take a look at the gaps between content and tell me, do you think they're not working hard enough making it? Remember that they've got a much smaller crew than bigger MMO titles, bug-fixes and making new content is time-consuming especially when you don't have a massive crew like those at Blizzard and other hosts. Read over Ubernerd's post above. He pretty much hit the nail on the head regarding this issue.

And if you disagree with something, voice your opinion. Most likely it's been taken into consideration, but if it wasn't taken to the game, then there are either too many opposing your stance, or a future update might explain why it happened the way it did. Otherwise, you could always contact them yourself and ask why this wasn't done.

But going back to the points raised by OP. Well, I see you didn't mention the removal of RSS, so I'm not sure if I should take your post seriously. But I do like your metaphor about spending time and money with friends who ended up growing up doing drugs and going to brothels, then regret after the fact. Sad but true.

Now development takes time, yes. Development costs money, yes. As a result, developers need to pay more attention to what features to implement and the rationale behind these features. So look at removal of RSS as an example. The rationales behind the whole shard bomb fiasco are just wrong. To make things worse, there is a perfectly fine alternative that the gamer base would buy into and actually loving OOO (that alternative is to keep old RSS in a separate line from the new shard bombs and model it more like a frag grenade or claymore mine).

Is the shard bomb fiasco preventable? Yes of course. If Nick and all stop spoon feeding their philosophies into the gamer base and say in effect "look this is good for you, so pay up". When the people who actually use bombs on a daily basis already telling them "hey guys, you better reconsider what you are doing because this is not how bombers use bombs" or "Nick, we know you love swords and guns, but bombs aren't your expertise and you could use our expertise here".

So Eurydice, I hope you see both sides of the story. When the developers made mistake and asked the P2P to cover their mistakes with our money, you shouldn't be surprised that there will be a continuing resentment towards the SK development team. Question to you, as community manager, what steps have you taken to prevent enthusiasts turn into haters, as this is the concern OP has raised?

They screwed with the RSS. Their logic behind screwing with it was flawed. They shoved these bombs KNOWING they had bugs onto the live server. They turned the best PvP bomb into the worst PvP bomb (Which is ironic, because I believe theses were the only weapons to ever have specific LD testing). I think bombers deserve a better apology. Sure, bombers are a minority, but other people will see how you ignore them and think, "If they did that, how can I trust them with this?".

Rangerwillx knows it's not really 10 mins. I know it's not 10 mins. Everyone knows it's not 10 mins.

The point he was making--through hyperbole--is that some things are taking an awful long time coming, so long that it seems like the devs must only be working on them 10 mins a day. Stuff like a fix to a major status bug known for over a year, or simple damage tweaks to weapons long known to be stupidly weak. That is the real point, and it's a valid one.

Any response to that?

So now that the shard bomb patch is live, are there any initiatives (at all) to consider the effect of re-inserting old RSS back (with possible some tweaks) and evaluate its impact on game balancing?

From what I have been reading from the COO's response. Game balancing seems to be a BIG thing to SK development. So can we have some words on the possibility of a game balance evaluation of adding old RSS back?

I'm not asking you to apologize. I'm asking you to look at the damn game balancing you are so passionate about and then I can tell you how much further funding I'm willing to provide to you. This is fair game, yes?

I do know that developing a game is difficult.
I also know that a product of this nature is nothing without a PAYING customer base.
I further know that if a company ignores/insults that PAYING customer base, they do not last long.

I love this game, but like Tersa, have become more than a little disappointed in some of the recent decisions.

This is my only complaint about promos.

He was exagerrating, obviously. Everybody knows the dev team is putting a lot of effort in the content we want. I respect them deeply for that. However, you are putting a curtain over the hard working devs with these vanity things. I enjoyed the danger mission very much (even if I had 5-10 FPS all trough it), it was very well done and the game is fantastic. Management decisions make it leave a sour taste in my mouth. Money-grabbing promos, ignoring the public opinion, undesired changes...
I am not saying OOO should stop doing things to bring them money, but sometimes it is taken too far, to the point it agrravates and actually removes the desire of a potential customer to throw money at the game.

Really, hmm? I am very unsure about the new proto sets being enjoyable to both. The simple act of swooping the petition under the carpet is a huge kick in the balls. I am afraid old timers will not have access to them, which is by far the worst decision taken. Correct me if I'm wrong. A yes or no will end this silly nonsense and ease me of a responsibility: keep the petition in the first pages of Suggestions.
It's an open discussion, by the way. Not a suggestion.
This is another thing that bugs me. It's easy to swoop it away but hard to post a simple "No." or "Yes." or "Yes, but we don't know how yet."

I just started my college courses in Java programming :D

I can tell you for certain, that Eury is in fact underreacting, even if it was sarcastic.

Java seems to have a way of finding new errors when more code is added, and especially likes to make it hard for you to find out where and what the problem is. not to mention you have to make sure that the logic packages you are using cooperate with eachother :P

I patiently await the improvements planned by OOO that are yet to come for Spiral Knights.

The redeeming factor to this is that all of these are avaialable to us veteran players as well, albeit not for free. Now, if they got something like Extra Tall/Short as an option, or one of the many other eyes that are not distributed by Vatel, then yeah, that's pretty bull. But the accessories for the helmets are common enough that it shouldn't be an issue.

OOO is going too far with this

When I played Ghosts in the Machine today, it felt THE SAME AS THE TEST SERVER. Seriously, I ragequitted once I saw that no surging bombies were removed to make it a bit easier. I got furious. Really, OOO? This is how you make a new danger mission? Make it the same difficulty as the Test Server? Come on, actually make something that won't make me angry about it!
