What?

I absolutely LOVE Ghost in the Machine! It is atmospheric, good difficulty, and a wicked boss to boot - what is not to love? That said, you are entitled your own opinion on the matter, but my advice would be to practice it more. It's not obscenely difficult, really. Besides, it's available every day for a week, so you have plenty of time to practice and get better at it.

@Derprules
As far as I know, these new styles haven't made it to the live server yet. I confirmed this earlier by attempting to create a new account - nothing new. When the day comes, though, I will rise to fight for our right to either purchase or trade our existing proto gear for the new ones at will unless they are made available to us through conventional means, as these are currently not available to veteran players.

I think the difficulty of GITM is a little too much, but it's a DANGER mission. I don't think it crosses into impossible. Essentially. If we take the lag into account, it's a keyboard smasher.

I think all the danger missions are as they were in the test server, lol.

This was fun, I was able to do it with a group on the first try, we did need to rev but only used mist and for a first run, we did pretty well. I like it how it is, and Ters, How you doing?

Okay, then why did they bother to create these forums for? Is it not to learn our thoughts on the game itself? Hmm? If we complain, then it's obviously because they did something wrong. We complain because they know what they did wrong but didn't even try to fix said mistake. And we will keep complaining until the ACTUALLY fix said mistakes.

Don't get all smartaleck with us, you're getting nowhere with your arguments.

Zeddy, they didn't really

Zeddy, they didn't really *add* anything besides the extra constructs in the boss fight. Almost all the arenas were exactly the same from the test server. There were only slightly changes made to a few things.

However, they did speed up the cable attacks from the boss and the rotation speed of the electric orbs during battle.

Honestly, OOO should hire more people to actually release more content. Have a small group work on main additions and have another group work on releasing new levels. The thing is that OOO needs to release more content at a MUCH faster pace than what they're doing. I mean I understand taking the time for quality control but it seems kinda wrong that it takes OOO a whole month to release a 1.2 depth level that uses existing assets and enemies.

And, no. Having the same enemies just retextured doesn't count.

@Diamondshreddie
What you're describing is most definitely not a problem unique to Java, but rather a general programming problem. In fact, Java is very strict about having everything neatly packed into classes exactly to avoid such problems.

Try importing a bunch of third-party libraries in C++ and then tell me Java is bad at this.

How long does it take to Develop an apology for mistakes made?
How long does it take to remove/fix Stun?
How long does it take to put back Elemental damage?
How long does it take to not break things that were not broken to begin with?
How long does it take to compensate those that used/paid for the thing that ooo broke.
How long does it take to penalize those that took advantage of compensation scheme?

Too much of this complaining about OOO stuff
  • Since when did what they did with the game become not their choice? They can run the game into the ground if they want to (not that they are).
  • Here's what promotion means "Something devised to publicize or advertise a product, cause, institution, etc., as a brochure, free sample, poster, television or radio commercial, or personal appearance." - These prize boxes fit this definition perfectly, it doesn't matter what's in the box. If you want to make sure you don't get a UV ticket with your CE then buy it when there isn't a promotion going on. If you gain more than you would normally, then it's a promotion.
  • SK is Three Rings'/Sega's game; not yours. Make your own if you want whatever you want.
  • Also

  • Disagree with me so I can disagree back! :D

    Why? Because!

Well, when you criticize game elements, mechanics, and all things game, that's fair as it is an expression of opinion or critique of the current state of affairs of the product (hereby referred to as Spiral Knights).

When you make assumptions about the work habits of the developers responsible for the product itself, I can see how anyone under the employ of OOO might take offense.

Couple that with ignorance to what it takes to actually build & code content for spiral knights, and you have a perfect storm of Wrongness.

Not that I'm taking sides, I'm just simply calling it as I see it.

It is only reasonable to tolerate so much. Any obvious mistake that can be undone, should be undone. If I see a mistake that affects me, I'm not going to just 'get over it' and sit idly by like some passive wimp when I see something that genuinely disgusts me.

"I respect all of your opinions and so do OOO but making it public like this doesn't help at all, honestly."
It is everyones right, if not their responsibility, to make their opinion public when they can.

"Couple that with ignorance to what it takes to actually build & code content for spiral knights, and you have a perfect storm of Wrongness."
Oh, because game developers are gods. Programing isn't incredibly hard, I learned java in a few weeks. Though personaly I do more 3D work. Go join a robotics team or something and play with labview or scratch.

    Now Now,

I never suggested that developers were gods, my opinion of them is certainly far from it (though it could change if they drop the price of the shadow key by 75%) What I meant by the 'perfect storm of wrongness' quote was in regard to people's assumptions of what the developers do. Regardless of the ease or lack-there-of of programming java, they do have to manage the personnel, and I have no clue how large the OOO studio is in terms of staff, so I cannot make any safe assumption as to how long it takes to create new content for the game.

I certainly won't disagree with everyone's reaction to the shardbomb debacle either. It sounds like OOO really dropped the ball on that one, or more accurately, they decided internally that these game mechanics needed to change, otherwise why would they bother with 'compensating' those who already had these bombs before the update?

All I am saying here is: anyone who accuses the development team of SK of not working on the game probably has no idea what's going on at OOO internally so the chances of them guessing the work habits of the Dev. Team being correct are probably very small, and hence Eury getting involved in the discussion & defending the devs.

    Whoa, whoa, everyone's so angry!

Are you trying to warm yourself with RAGE?!

Okay, BitF link aside, I don't see what's so bad about the promos. They do drive the CE down, and the graphical team probably works on them in their spare time (you know, when they're done but the other programmers are still finishing up); the graphical team can't program a new sword, they can only program a reskin or something. Also, fun is subjective; I know I'm still enjoying the game, though I certainly ain't grinding FSC every day (good ol' Elevator Pass comin' through for me when I want to go in the Arcade).

However, your other points are more or less valid. The FSC mission's payout does need a nerf... and maybe the FSC in the Arcade can stand to lose a little payout since it gives out those Almirian Seals. Then, in the process of "pimping out their knight", players would have to run the Arcade- keeping one aspect without eschewing the other, as the Arcade is always changing.

As far as the Shard Bombs go, yeah, the changes were terrible. Eek5 explained it better than I feel like explaining right now.

@Rangerwill, i think you got EDIt; Oops. i was gonna say something but forgot to finish it. Fail.

Finally, a message to Njthug: the only game you deserve is on the... Philips CD-i!"

But seriously, you're helping as much as the ragers. Yes, the Shard Bomb update was bad; I really think you only support it because of the UV tickets, as you haven't given any other reason. NOW STOP POSTING INNUENDO AND FLIRTING WITH USERS WHO DISAGREE WITH YOU!

I never knew Eury would react like that. o.o

Though it's not out of line at all. There has been too many saying "The devs need to do their jobs instead of sitting around." Do not say that till you have had sometime working on games YOURSELF, please. Until you know what that's like, don't go saying that they are slow. I am learning how to make games, and actually I've decided that until I can get a good experience, I'm not going to say such a thing.

Java is also a hard language. Don't expect bugs to be found real fast. Actually that's why I'm making Cradle Bound with C. I am most likely going to be the only person working on it, so I need to be able to slay all the bugs BY MYSELF. Java is actually easier, though, if you are porting your game/program to systems A, B, and Z, though. If you have 3 different versions, you need to update all those at the same time, lest you won't be supporting everyone. Just think: OOO would have to take 3 times as long to make ONE UPDATE if they did that. Java can turn that down to one version, so that's why you make a big game like this in Java, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE IN A SMALL TEAM. *cough cough*

Oh, and Orangeo, there is an issue with your logic. Leaving America? Well, that costs a LOT of money, unless you go into Canada/Mexico. Even still, it is harder moving to a whole new country that might have a different language than just switching games. I would be putting another comparison up, but everything I can think of has some hole. :\

Hmm, if OOO could answer a question, it would be appreciated: Why do you like to be a small team, anyway? Isn't it limiting? I'm really curious. Being I want to go into game-making, I think it would help me a lot if I can get some understanding.

And on one last note: NJthug, are you a boy or a girl? I, um..., have had a hard time telling.... o.O

The only reason I think the guild hall update is happening is because they had that on their To-Do list since the day SK was released. I've seen alot of people complaining about how waaah they can't fix this bug or waaaah they can't fix this mechanic and then saying "If they can make new danger missions, they should be able to fix this!!!"

Take this from someone who has experience with coding and game design...

Its a LOT easier to create new levels and such then to fix bugs sometimes. To make a level, you have all the assets, all the code, most of the models... you just need to put it together into a new level. To fix a bug? You have no idea where it is, what's causing it, and how you can fix it. Does that really sound so easy? A game like Spiral Knights more than likely has millions of lines of code, and they will have to sift through ALL of that. Its not THAT easy. OOOs doesn't just want the game to be broken forever. It would only benefit them to fix these things for us. But they also have to release new content, or the game will get stale in the time they're trying to fix said bugs, and its alot easier for them to do that then identify these little problems.

Do you remember when they released the danger missions Heart of Ice and Compound 42? Upon their release they added that danger mission to be the current danger mission so people had access straight away. But the mission would switch over at the end of the day, which apparently meant Europeans didn't get a shot at the mission for a few days until it cycled back in. Asukulan raged a lot each time. A few others agreed with this point of view. So what did they do when they released Ghosts in the Machine? They made it available everyday for a week. Everyone gets to play it as soon as possible. Clearly OOO has both acknowledged and addressed this problem. So unless you are another fool who's trying to use hyperbole to make a point, pull your head out of your arse and stop being a fool.
