I know some French...but not a ton.
Bonjour, Markus-Aurelius. Quest-ce que tu a fait hier soir? Moi, je n'ai rien fait. Très simple, n'est pas?
Tea time with Zeke and Markus
Based on the horrible translation that is google translate, my response is... I played a lot of video games. My sister also returned from a two week trip out of the country, so it was nice to see her again.
We should try turning the pool into a dunk tank :P
Awesome! I volunteer to be dunked first!
*sits down in anticipation of getting dunked*
Well you're in luck, for a new shipment has arrived
/watches the truck dump a whole lot of teabags into the pool
/walks off in shame
Awesome
*flings a teacup at the Dunk target and watches Markus fall*
*Enters the room and finds so much horrible, tea-related drama.
AAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!
*splash*
Oh My! That water is a bit cold! Haha, this was actually quite fun. I think I'll do it .... Oh Schnapps! I wore my "dry clean only" suit....
Oh dear! How about having my shifty-looking butler go get it dry-cleaned.
/jumps in the water
Brother-Zeke, I found the rest of you
You've actually never been looking at me, I am the blue snipe out of the picture.
*water instantly turns to gelatin, trapping Markus and Ima*
... Anyone that can eat stuff? This ghost body doesn't really help me in that department.
Oh dear, that's bad. Now we can't get our teacups back.
What? Oh, Markus and Imagremlin will be fine, hopefully.
Then how come you were fighting for the monsters in that other thread, Zeke?!
I'm sure there are worse fates than being trapped in gelatin, at least...
Atlas! Thou hath returned! *clears throat* Sorry. Want a marshmallow?
@Imagremlin Thank you, but I don't think that will be necessary since I have several more at home. Plus, I brought a change of clothes with me as well.
@Sonosuke A semi-rare moment of madness, I presume.
Aahhhh!! Gelatin!! I Love Gelatin ♥
Well, it looks like the only way out is to eat a path to the side of the pool.
*squeal*
This will be so much fun since I love gelatin ♥
Still doesn't really explain why you're wearing a suit.
/gets a giant blob of jell-o and puts it on the pool, starts adding more eventually a mountain of jell-o forms
Oops, forgot qbout Markus...
I feel a bit evil right now...
My mission was to be formal and try to convey the sophisticated and elegant side of me. Of course, all of that went out the window when I took my first sip of tea and burnt my tongue... Followed by me spitting the tea out and spilling the contents of the tea cup all over my suit.
And then there was the jam and bread incident. And of course the sugar cube juggling. And who can forget my attempt to pull the table cloth out from under the 18th century tea set.
Mission Grade: D-
Nah, I think that would be mean to give you a D-, how about E-? We don't know what it is so it could be good
I think E- might be worse. It lies between D and F, so it must be worse that D-.
I have a tolerance level for how formal something is. Highest I can take is Casual Formal (button-down w/ tie and formal pants). And then you come in all suited up, ready to tackle anything before burning your tongue.
Yes, it was much too ambitious of me. Normally, I cannot stand wearing anything near formal attire; I almost always dress causal.
@Sir Pi
Your previous comment had me cracking up :D
What movies have you guys seen recently?
Has anyone seen Guardians of the Galaxy?
I don't watch that many movies. Last one I saw was a month ago, The Fall of the Roman Empire--it was great! Know what else is great? I managed to log in and post here without 408 error!
Hmmm... We need an interesting topic to discuss. Actually, forget interesting; We just need any topic.... Somebody help provide discussion material!
Uh... Has anyone participated in the whole ice bucket challenge that is going around?
What's that?
The ice bucket challenge is part of a campaign to raise money and awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which is often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
If challenged, you can accept and pour a bucket of ice water over your head and then donate money (I think it's $20 or so) to the ALS Association (or another organization that helps those with the disease and/or is searching for a cure). If getting an arctic shower is not something you want to do, you can decline the challenge, but you must donate $100 instead of the smaller amount required of accepting the challenge.
After completing the challenge, you then challenge three people you know who have not yet participated. They are supposed to accept or decline within 24 hours. The ice bucket challenge has been consuming social media and has raised over $50 million.
Irl, I have not been challenged. However a guildie did challenge...not actually me... And I won't do it even if it was me, nor donate. I mean, I feel like this is a sad way to raise money, especially how the challenged are "forced" into donating if they do nothing.
P.S. I don't have a facebook, instagram, twitter, tumblr, or any social media. Well, I made a facebook to talk to people from Latin Academy but I rarely use it anyway and isolate it from my...nearby friends.
Yeah, I can see that. It tries to force the person's hand. On the flip side, it is for a good cause and has been bringing massive awareness to the the disease and those with it.
I haven't been challenged yet. If I am, I will probably do the ice bucket. I'm not sure if I'll donate though; I don't really have any money right now. Maybe I could find a sponsor or something....
Really now, it's either get dunked and pay $2, or refuse and pay $10. *eats a teacup* +Ice or -$8, your pick.
The thing about the videos is that they encourages people to have short attention spans about serious issues. Everybody donates a few bucks to ease their conscience then move on.
Sure, more money is going into the foundation, but that's just going to pay for all the overhead that goes into research and helping patients (assuming it's a reliable non-profit). Unlike buying mosquito nets for people living in malaria country, for example, there is no tangible result when you donate to the ALS foundation. Unless the foundation is in debt or lacks the tools needed for cutting edge research, all that extra money isn't really going to do much. You can't buy knowledge or time with that money. Knowledge and time is what's valuable in medical research.
Human compassion is free. It just needs a bit (or maybe a lot) of coaxing. That is where I think "raising awareness" should come in. By showing people how horrible the disease is, you can get them to be more sympathetic toward those who are afflicted. Perhaps they will be more inclined to volunteer at a local hospital. Perhaps it can convince someone in medical school to devote his/her life toward fighting it. It sounds ridiculous, but for genetics related diseases, one breakthrough may be all it takes.
The ice bucket challenge does not invoke human compassion. It encourages people to donate some money to charity in return for entertainment and fame. Sometimes the ends justifies the means, but I personally don't think it does in this case.
@Deleted-Knight
Excellent post. I do think a lot of people are doing it for entertainment and fame. While many people will just donate "a few bucks to ease their conscience [and] then move on," I also believe there are many people who will go beyond just throwing cash. I also think it depends on the person though. For one person maybe donating money is the best way they can regularly contribute, while for another donating their time is a better contribution. Despite this, I think our culture vastly prefers donating money over time.
New Topic: What is your opinion on the.... wait for it.... platypus.
Boy, we're really digging into the deep stuff here...
They're weird and creepy and probably came from space. There we go.
That mysterious figure looks a bit like...no, it can't be...
What is your favorite genre of music?
I personally prefer Rock and Orchestral/Classic (yes, there's a difference).
Platypus: It is an amazing creature. It also kinda looks like a mash up of a couple different animals.
Music: my favorite genre would be rock. I also like some metal. Classical/orchestral is also nice; however, I don't listen to them much.
I don't particularly have a certain taste in music, but I quite like classical stuff and some jazz/swing.
I saw Markus actually in game today! I snuck into his Guild Hall and lurked around while he wasn't looking.
Ahh, yes, I saw you were online, but I never saw you around. Probably 'cause I was AFK most of the time :P
I saw Atlas once after I friended him (accepted days later), told Markus to log on and saw him, saw Pi and he friended me, saw Sono and we're friends, yeah.
Ah, good times. Although, I feel this tea party is a bit small for only 5 regulars and the café owner.
Welcome, Popoixd! My apologizes for this über late response. Here is a hot and fresh cup of tea. Pastry tables are on both sides of the room --help yourself to whatever you want!
Personally, I do not have much knowledge regarding anything French. But feel free to introduce discussion topics!
