Boost bows slightly, then begins to walk off, one of his Snipes staring at your party as its perch leaves the hallway. "Careful, now. The Clockworks are more dangerous than they've ever been..."
The way forward is simple enough; maps on the walls of the complex lead to the elevator, and hostiles have already fled the area in fear of MZK-000. Eventually, the Machinauts reach an elevator with a terminal that displays the mark for "Clockwork Tunnels: Slimeway."
Each of the seven was built at the request of a prophecy. One day, a terrible darkness would put all life on Cradle at risk... and while the Torchbellow clan has lost its former splendor to invasion and war, its probes still spotted the darkness, and brought the Machinauts to life.
Their numbers were low. Too low. What would have been a mighty army was lost to theft, corruption, and disrepair. But the Machinauts were not forgotten... and with the promise of more allies yet to be repaired, the seven Machinauts marched on.

Of Knights and Knaves
Slimes are a strange kind.
Some are loose, spherical globs, while others are more rigid and cubic. Some have the intelligence and sentience of an insect, living only to feed, while others are sentient and have a wide range of IQs, and a few, as with most peoples, can rightly be called ingenious. Yet they all retain an odd, cell-like structure. Why? Biologists- Gremlin, Isoran, Fiendish, even Slimes themselves- simply don't know.
Many hostile Slimes found in the Clockworks are the non-sentient kind; those that are both sentient and hostile are often working for what many circles call "Slime Tyrants," enormous despots that, like the non-sentients, are motivated by gluttony, greed, and almost nothing else.
The Royal Jelly and the Ice Queen are the most notable and well-known examples, but they are not the only examples. Some Slime Tyrants have a different air about them, less regal... more criminal.
The Jellafia is a criminal empire led by an entire family of Slime Tyrants. Don "Mercury Poisoning" Electrocuto is both relatively small compared to his family and is so hot-blooded that he gets his goons into lousy situations on a daily basis, and thus is one of the lower-ranking Jellafia Dons.
Similarly, Muyōburobu "the Useless Blob" of the Viskouza, a similar organized crime gang situated in a completely different sector, is known for his relative small size in comparison to his colleagues, but unlike Electrocuto, he's unmotivated to a degree that most of his underlings do his work for him, and so Muyōburobu is a low-ranking member.
Both of them ended up in a high-depth location to get them out of the way of their colleagues' business. As luck would have it, it just so happened that they ended up in the same high-depth location, and ever since, they've been at each other's (entirely metaphorical) throats... much to the chagrin of the Torchbellow Clan caught in the middle of their schemes.
Two members of the InterCradle Justice Brigade, Agent "Patchwork" Silk and Agent "No-Spikes" Hubert, came to try and stop the organized sliminal, err, criminal activity in the area. Now they're fleeing from a bunch of Electrocuto's cronies... and as luck would have it, they run into a certain squad of Machinauts that you might know about.
"Dang it, H! Ooze faster!" A Silkwing in what looks like a suit and tie and... a fedora?... fixes up a de-spiked, also-suit-and-tie-and-fedora-wearing Ice Cube's spike wound mid-flight. "I can't keep turnin' around like this, man!"
"Glorp, shlrrp!"
"What? Oh, hey, look!" The Silkwing sizes up the party at a glance. "Sweet, Machinauts! 'Least, I thin- HEY, WATCH IT!" Agent Silk flies off to the side to avoid yet another Quicksilver spine. "Dang morons! Yeah, you Jellafia scumbags are legally obliged to get reduced to chunky salsa if ya don't clear outta here right... the heck... NOW." The Silkwing pulls out an Alchemer and points it at an incoming group of Quicksilvers, Wolvers, and Drouls. "Yo, H. Your gun."
"Shlop!" Hubert draws his own Alchemer. (How he actually does this is never explained.) "Jiggle shlorp gulp glorp!"
