IDK about others, but personally if I were thin– or anybody else really– I would accept the app since we need more active character
Clockwork Heroes RP [discussion][APPS CLOSED]
but it's also Colray, if nobody noticed.
YAY!
App accepted. Be advised that joining in the middle of a game will present difficulties. I'll do my best to work with you through them. :)
This battle is unique for reasons not yet revealed. Please limit yourselves to one enemy at a time, don't power play them, and don't assume that you can see anything that I didn't specifically describe to you. Normal gameplay will resume after the battle.
Also, it's okay to let yourself get defeated.
Already waiting on a response via active movement from Amaria. Also did you like the Quote I made xD.
Did anyone realize there is a new fixed thread on treasure vault by the mod? It is a pumpkin carving contest– If any of you missed it.
Anyway, @Thin, If by you saying that, then we can't actually determind the action of the monsters as of now? Currently, I am at lost of where I should do. If I were to follow the commotion then I would end up in the center with you guys, however this betrays my last post when Chael specified that he want to go 'Somewhere with no knights around' so he can use his bombs to the fullest. Of course I did not put this for anyone to tell me what to do since that is MY problem not any of you guys. But yeah, if you can–and if everybody done with their business– can you post something to advance the story? Of course I didn't meant to rush you or anything, but I feel like this is dying too much- and I ain't want another RP delving down to inactivity again.
And I ended up making walls of text. Hooray me!
Well, I find it hard to follow Thin's order under your char's stats, Spirals. He's a bomber, he has to take on more than one enemy.
But if you wanna stick with it, I suggest you lead Chael to another area of the camp, maybe one of the borders with the sentry-bots still in their boxes. Then , I dont know, a Retrode closes up on you and the fight ends with you having to bash the construct's head with your bombs.
Doing this would also create another scene other than the wounded tents that everyone else went with, so maybe the other tech-savvy characters could join up with you.
((Excuse the series of long absences; I've been swamped by college work. I should be able to post more often after tonight.))
Crud, player interaction destroys the gimmick of this battle. Oh well; it's better saved for a more climactic moment anyway.
You may all resume normal play.
Well we need to get people posting again, that or start the post more often.
I don't want this to die either. Somewhere in my busy life, I need to make time for you guys. It hurts to be left hanging.
just a little slow to post because of school. However I try to check the forums everyday and work on a post for more of Grael's tinkering.
I tend to think of this as a collaborated novel then just an RP. Sure it takes time, but if there is too much time in between then the novel is kinda broken. Then again I get home around 5pm EDT [-0400 UTC] (about to start using EST{-0500 UTC}). Yet I am but one person and it takes a group to feed this monster created for our entertainment.
Oh, that reminds me. I've been meaning to harness your tinkering subplot and merge it into the greater story, but I'm sort of at a loss as to how. Can you offer any tips for me?
My main kind of idea was that the Mecha-Knight brain would hold information about the battle, because you said that it was important, maybe the brain might have locations or something that could lead to where to go next in regards to the Valkyrie and the cause of the attack on the Rescue Camp.
Ah, I see. Yes, I think it would be quite interesting to find out what the mecha knights saw. The trouble is, I haven't fully figured it out yet. This battle was originally intended to be a Swarm fight, in which everyone's perceptions were twisted by the atmospheric Swarm Seed. Everyone sees everyone else as a mecha knight, so when a "mecha knight" attacks you, it's actually another player, and when you destroy a mecha knight, you've wounded another player. In order for that to work, though, I need to moderate everything. I didn't properly set that up beforehand, so the battle became a mess of contradictions and impossibilities. Hence, I abandoned it in favor of introducing the Black Valkyrie.
That's a very cool idea, but anyways, maybe when the darkness fell, the Mecha-Knight couldn't see anything, then it turned on infrared and saw the Black Valkyrie shooting through and taking out the Mecha-knights and gutting Mundy. Then we could rewind the footage to where the Mecha-Knight was deployed from, and we could investigate that area?
Huh. I hadn't thought about where they're deployed from. These ones were probably re-routed from their patrol routes on the surface.
Gotta get down to my imagineering to make this story interesting.
As stated by you in the main thread, Amaria has handled (or rather it was hinted at) Valkyrie before. He might be able to give an id if possible assuming the recording thing happened.
Side note: Wouldn't the Valkyrie at the camp have ire for Amaria if what I understood is true about him and the siege?
The nature of Amaria's encounter with a Valkyrie was a sympathetic one. Amaria was part of an elite squad on the Spiral side. The Morai army laid siege to their own city of Va'Ilsol, which was overrun with "insurrectionists," and Morai assassins were given the job of sneaking in and killing everyone from the inside. Things were so desperate in there that Spiral command eventually decided to send Amaria's squad in there to rescue the survivors. Meanwhile, a Valkyrie trapped inside worked tirelessly to keep the survivors safe. She was skilled, but so were the assassins, so her job was nearly impossible. That she survived at all earned her the nickname of "Tigress." I bet you can guess who I'm referring to.
Amaria arrived right as she lost all hope and screamed.
Well from that I assume by lost all home she gave a scream.
Tigress....it does strike a ting on the old bell, but memory seems to be lacking.
Maybe that woman Thin used in that RP about the Morai war a year ago, can't remember the name...
Talking about pulling characters out of no where.
Not to pester anyone, but months ago, I posted a guy here and never got a word on it since. Just curious, I'd like to know your opinions. Yes, I have read the "joining in the middle of the game" thing, but anyway, I'll be willing to hear your opinion.
Thanks in advance.
As long as you've been keeping up with the story, I have no objections. We could use some new players.
You start at Rescue Camp with the others.
@Darkwatck: Den's injured. Mind having Amaria treat him?
So, are there no stock battlesprites left after the crash, or...
Are you also telling me to take a hint?
okay sorry i had to it's a catchy song
it only has one line in common, but otherwise is completely unrelated
sorry
There are definitely some stock battle sprites left. Skyla won't find more than one, though, and that one I'll control.
I figured Skyla could use a second set of eyes.
The rest of us may or may not acquire sprites in the future.
Well, crud.
I have two characters, Skyla, and Lyra.
Skyla is the preset AI for the chassis, and Lyra is a secondary that I'm not sure if I should keep as a personality switching gimmick, or find a way to get another body.
Skyla promised to get Lyra freedom, so I'm kinda torn.
Do I wait the whole story, or make it an active goal?
Never miss an opportunity to make the plot more gripping. ;)
If worse comes to worse you could, and mind you this is an idea drop not a do it now thing; find one of the battle sprites, take it to a bio-tech. get them to wipe the AI and implant a new one...of course I did have a bit of an idea for a bio-tech.
[The following is just speculation and in now way is related to the lore of the Spiral Knights, History of the Spiral Knights, or in anyway related to the main understanding of their technological advancements as it stands.
]
For the sprites to be it seems the run off of a mix of biotic and abiotic parts to make a artificially living creature. This would also help explain some of the situations in which case the sprites have evolved and adapted to the environments they where dropped in. If Charles Darwin has shown us anything then it's that in the wild when you have to survive then it's literally "Adapt or Die" in every situation. However adaption takes many generations to take effect, meaning that if it was a fully biotic/organic creature then it would have taken many years to change form for the environments they are launched into. Those that wheren't and somehow stayed safe would also start to adapt to life on cradle based on their owners.
This is where the Abotic or inorganic parts shine, perhaps the fact they can eat anything is related to them able to convert matter to energy LOSING NO ENERGY in the process. As stated by Albert Einstein “Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.”. If this is the case here I can only assume there is a module inside the Sprites that somehow converts matter into raw energy with no waste, the exception being extra heat (which happens when humans digest food as well, you ever start feeling hot about ten to twenty minutes after eating?[Not converting energy but breaking it down into smaller forms of energy that is still matter]) and recharging the sprite on the field.
As for brain power, lets look at this more like a computer. If all the right parts are there then yes it would be as simple as taking a scan of your, mine, anyone's brain and implanting that onto the sprites brain. The difference is that the Sprites brain is organic and would have cells to help store information, which means that its ability to learn could in fact be infinite if the owner desired. It would still suffer some of the Organic needs mind you, air, Nervous system, Food, ETC...but it would also have the access to weapons built in or 'modded' in by the owner. Since this is a simi-living creature its body and brain would automatically start allocating energy to it meaning it might need more food.
The big thing here is it's look or body. If it is biotic, that means whatever form you make it, that's going to be the tendency it will take, or traits it will take on the heaviest. Just because we are human doesn't mean we ignore our tendency's or Trait's. In-fact I would say that as humans we do these tendency's that relate to our instances without us even knowing. This would be the same with the battle sprite, make it look like a Dragon, it will start to take up tendency's of that 'TYPE' of Dragon. Make it look like a Wolver, it will start to take on tendency's of that 'TYPE' of wolver. ETC...the list goes on and on. Being sentient we are able to stop or ignore these tendency's and carry on, the same would be true of the Sprite, but being closer related (As in physically and mentally as the physical body would start to effect the mental state) to that creature in question would make it more like its creature look alike till there was little difference outside of it being able to talk to you and hold a conversation about what ever.
[This has been speculation time with Dark, come back next week for more weird idea's and trips through his mind.

Some events are coming up that require more than two or three players. Who's still watching this RP?
I check everyday for the most part, at the current moment I am free of homework and/or projects but that's probably not going to last long. However that's not the point so...
I'm here!
I'm here?
Between school, games, and personal projects, anyway.
I am here, and I try to check this whenever possible. However, I wanna ask: Do you mean like we have to be present on the clock or simply available to participate?
Well, for example, Magmaul-Ace hasn't posted in a while. I need to know who I can count on to reply when stuff happens.
Ha! A novel's worth of comments. That would be the day =P
Anyway, Thin, are we going to play this by ear? Or do you have something more specific in mind?
@Hexlash: It'll be a little of both. I need a player to be "the target," another to "do the deed," and at least one to be "the friend." Mundy was the original "target," but he's out for the count for the time being. I haven't quite decided who will be who, which is the part we're playing by ear.
Here's the OOC thread!
So,urm. Can I join or something? Do I have to give another character app?
Well obviously post an application then go to sleep.
Name: Grael Dium
Gender: male
Gear: Mining Hat,
Padded Armor,
Plate Shield,
Spur,
Stunvolt Gun,
Pickaxe-shovel.
Accessories: Round Glasses (Colorless).
How it Works: The Stunvolt gun is a heavily modified combination of a super stun gun and a zapper. While normally set to stun, the pistol can be charged to launch an electrically charged bullet.
Additional Info: Grael is a mechanically inclined Knight, and likes to tinker with weapons and gear. The Stunvolt is his own invention (and first success), and he was tinkering with his spur when he went into cryo. His personality is a little eccentric as he treats his tinkerings more like people than… well.. people. Horrible at swordsmanship, and would much rather lob energy discs with his spur than actually fight with it. On this new world apparently made of machination, Grael knows he's going to need help exploring, and surviving, the alien planet.
