Pfft, I'm not excited about some new UI; that has NEVER crossed my mind for things that I would want released/changed in Spiral Knights. Three Rings, no one is excited about that! Jeeze! And you're probably right, I don't know much about programming or computers, so I'll just quietly back down from starting a petition, or even a riot in-game to make that drawing into a reality in Spiral Knights. I know (actually, I think) that there's a lot of stuff that's already been created in Spiral Knights, future updates with actual playable content and some nasty awesome weapons and enemies/bosses, and so on, and they, the company, are choosing dates on when to release what on what date. Either that, or Nick has lost his creativity, and they are having problems with what content that they should make for us, but I honestly do not know anything, and I'm basing this on personal experiences.

I'm just an artsy-fartsy that he got to make a few things for him.
And don't worry too much about the new content. We've got a lot of incoming goodies (Battle Sprites, mob monsters, the opening of the Lab, and now a new UI among other "secret" things) so just be patient for a little while longer. OOO likes to do infrequent gigantic updates as opposed to just lots of little ones.
There is assurance in that they almost always do something for April Fool's and the Spiral Knights Anniversary, which is coming up very soon. So you probably don't have to wait that long for something new to play around with.
If you're the curious type there are certain venues that you can find out a little bit more about what's coming... Can't say more than that though...

That's what I immediately thought when I read the title.
They're releasing a UI update because that's what their art guys could do while the base mechanics of other stuff are built upon. I'd recommend waiting until April or the summer to give them a chance to make another large patch.

I agree you Zaffy, especially with the update probably near a state where they can ship it out. Let some of the playerbase mess around with it so we can provide feedback on it. We really don't need another Shard Bomb or Chaos Cloak fiasco...
Maybe we should resurrect your thread where they were actually talking with us for once? I know it was just the GMs, but maybe we could make it popular enough for Nick and the others to get in on it a little bit. It's worth a shot, I think.
And if that fails we could always try to bribe them with cake or art or something...

Well, Fallconn, I say "selfish" because we, the players, have been wanting new playable content; it's been almost two years, and 3 or more for beta players. What's going to be the next big thing after Vanaduke? or Darkfire Vanaduke? Other MMOs I've played give new patches of new dungeons and new bosses/enemies to fight, but here in Spiral Knights, we mostly get accessories and re-edited content. But, I shouldn't really call OOO "selfish" since I do not know the situation or circumstances that they are facing. I know that the staff is a small team, and it's not as if they have a huge skyscraper building of their own for their company. I know little of their marketing skill; haven't seen them advertise their game both through the net nor in reality.

It's been two years, that's the problem. It's not about the new content itself, but the progress... the progress that has not gotten here...
Earning crowns, that is all that we look forward to in Spiral Knights. That is why everything takes forever to get; gear, heating, crowns, tokens; it's irritating to me. It takes days, weeks, and months to get what you want. For me, because I have a bipolar disorder, I loose interest by the time that I have what I wanted.
This slow progress is to keep players busy before reaching end-game. Accessories are for the veterans waiting for new content... we'll hunt for more crowns...

You are not an accurate and complete representation of all the players in Spiral Knights. Boss health bars and enemy indicators on the minimap are things that many people have been asking for, for a long time. Just because you didn't happen to want those things at the time, doesn't mean that OOO aren't listening.
They are working on new player content; the battle sprites and new swarming enemies are evidence of this.
Until then, tough luck. You can't always get everything you want at once.

When I first joined, the first big update was the shard bombs being remade. Do you actually think people liked it? Hell no, they just decided to remake it. Next was the guild hall update which was fun for 1 week.
Closing the year of 2012, we celebrated Winterfest.
They do listen. Lots of pet threads were suggested. OOO tried to make pet ideas better. They saw a bunch of them and decided to add pets in a different way. So don't complain. Thank you for reading.

Those things have never even crossed my mind! I have never met anyone in-game nor any of my friends who have cared/suggested/had complaints about the current interface. I have not seen anyone hold a conversation about this, which was a surprise to me when I saw the patch notes discussion thing. And yeah, I should have said that as my personal opinion, I apologize.
Do not worry, Skyguarder, this is not a complaint thread, sorry if it may seem as one.

im sorta with you lyle, no matter how many people want boss health bars dots indicating monsters on the mini map,im sure theres ALOT more who would want new content you know a new boss or 2 something related to the core ect, what i really want this to be is an april fools joke and that they wont really change it and tho pets are nice it seems like itll only make the game easier, but still new content such as a boss is something id rather have then pretty much all updates we have had til now and im not trying to complain i just wish they would do more things for us older players.

Guys, guys, guys, stop acting like the update to the GUI has made all developers completely halt all progress on everything for several weeks, because it hasn't.
The GUI update is just a minor patch that took one of the developers 2-4 days to cook up and add to the large amount of patches that we are getting in the near future. It's the "cherry" to the top of the update cake that you are getting. Stop complaining that it's glazed.

Like Hexzyle said, I'm not sure why the community has the assumption that OOO stopped everything to work on this GUI update. Given the large amounts of GUI additions, one or more of the art directors had finished their part in the other upcoming content, battle sprites and the swarm mobs, and figured they would improve the rather outdated GUI we have now. How you consider producing a free update selfish as opposed to something of the OCH or SL nature is beyond me.

Thank you for giving me this information; I did not know of these. My lack of knowledge = my reason for making this thread.
Not sure what you're asking for exactly...
If you want all those new Troikas in there, that would be a lot work for OOO to do. Lots of new models and textures for all their various levels, then giving them unique stats, balancing them out (hopefully), and so on.
If you want Tdlob added in as an NPC, that would be some work too. But would be really awesome.
