((LV-909 shot out the Grenadier. And there's a central path that has to be blocked; if it weren't, the Thaargan would just run past the tower.
Your enemies are in range of the Sniper Perch, which means they can easily turn to finish off your enemies. (Speaking of which, guys, you'll be able to hit next turn.)
You kinda did get screwed by the dice this turn. But if anyone else had been in that position, they would have died- look at all the dudes there with Normal and Piercing damage (3 Shredders and 3 Rabid Wolvers), and only one grenadier (who can smash you with serious Elemental damage) that died from LV-909's Finisher when it tried to charge up. Everyone else has less Normal Defense and Blocking than you do. If this were an actual video game, I would have the Fallen King haul butt to that point too, and hold out as long as he could.
This was meant to be a tough fight. There's going to be tougher fights. I tried to get this to be the moment where the Machinauts really banded together and stopped bickering to, as Pholy put it, "Open up a 24-pack of PUNCH OUT", so please don't let me down.))
(-.- well, my original plan is that, if you look back at post #533, KV-103 wanted LV-909, you and DSN-001 stay on the nest, D-07 get its own gelato set up in the nest before moving to my side and put its hatchet to good use. That would leave 3 ranged machinauts in the centre, me and D-07 on the left and colbalt on the right with pholy, or colbalt join me and D-07 follow Pholy instead, either way would be fine as long as KV-103 does what it does best, soaking up damage. But instead, KV-103 was forced to fight alone with virtually no support and took a crap ton of unnecessary damage.)
