Story Thread
The original Return to Cradle

[Edit] Let's be clear about something: this roleplay takes place before the events of the original Return to Cradle.

[Edit 6/29/13] And it takes place before Cradle's formation.

The situation on Isora is quickly deteriorating. The Morai government is becoming increasingly corrupt; it is spying on its own citizens, bankrupting the treasury, taxing every detail of life, and causing friction with the neighboring countries. The Spiral Order, once the vanguard of peace and justice in Moras (singular of Morai), has become disgusted with being the tool of slavery for the government, and has organized a revolt. In response, the government formed the Triumvirate, an organization led by a panel of three members tasked with defeating the rebellion and restoring Morai control.

Meanwhile, the neighboring countries of Valhalla and Almire are preparing for war. Almire is currently the seat of the White Council, a group of seven powerful and prominent individuals who have taken it upon themselves to defend Isora from evil, be it domestic or foreign. Valhalla is a nation of angels, renowned for their powerful female warriors known as "valkyries." Moras and Valhalla are envious of Almire's prestigious position and angry at its policy of interference in foreign affairs, so they have begun a secret correspondence to arrange its demise.

Does this RP, (if it even takes place in the same universe as the original RTC) occur before the events of RTC or after? If its before, then Ikaros did not even know she was a valkyrie; in fact, depending on what time this is, she may not even be alive. I'm guessing this roleplay is prior to RTC, so Ikaros' mother, Astraea, would fill in the position of the Valkyries' queen. If my reasoning is correct, I shall procure an application for Astraea at once.

So, i shall ask this one more time; if this is in the same universe as RTC, does it occur before or after?

Appearance: A thin man with black hair that only grows longer on the right side of his face and brown eyes.

Arsenal: A Dusker Coat, Elemental Hood, Nightblade, and a Despairblade (It's a knife).

Abilities: Nuh uh, no abilities for him. Just his wits and his blades.

Personality: Cheerful and a joker, but that doesn't mean he won't get his hands dirty.

Bio: Born into a poor family he would steal to provide for them. He was caught from time to time and suffered the consequences but he carried on with his trade of theft. But when he tried to pull a dangerous heist (Alcohol was used so that might be the reason why he did it) that involved Gwenyvier the former Archangel and some of her valuables he was caught red handed by Gwenyvier's guards. But she was impressed by his handy work. Travid had been able to steal half of what he came for and drug multiple guards without being seen. It was only because of Snipe alarm that was hidden in a one side wall that he was captured. Gwenyvier gave him a chance to work in espionage and if he refused, he would be executed. So he did what any sane man would do, he accepted and soon became her right hand man. Travid works in targeting Military Capability and Counterintelligence.

I do hope I got this right. It was a bit a confusing when it came to the Faction part. So, please, tell me if I got it right or not

I'll clear up the factions promply. The Snarbolax House is not an independent faction, though I probably should have clarified which one it belongs to. Snarbolaxes are part of the Great Colony. They are not a playable faction, nor Snarbolaxes a playable race. Travid will have to be another race.

@Quexi: Since an "access denied" problem deleted my previous attempt to write up this roleplay, I had forgotten to re-add the restriction that being factionless is not allowed. Since your character is a valkyries, his faction is locked into Valhallan allegiance.

Also, the inhabitants of Valhalla are generally called "angels." "Valkyries" are a sub-type of angels trained and equipped for battle.

Appearance - well, it's kind of obvious, a two headed knight with mecha knight pipes sticking out of his legs. Nah, he's a Snarbolax.

Arsenal - he has DBBs on his sides where he can drop off and detonate at will, he has BBS armor covering his back, and he has his teeth. He can burrow underground and shoot his back spikes up while he's burrowing.

Abilities - bomb dropping, biting, burrowing, and extreme speed.

Personality - sharp, serious, brave, and he will always enjoy a good story.

Bio - when he was born, he was already strong enough to give vanaduke a piggy back ride, and he always put others before him. He had a good life, until a rouge valkirye picked a fight with him. He won, although he was badly wounded on his back. He has to wear armor at all times now to protect his back. He joined the white council to help end rouge valks.

Appearance: tall with short blonde hair (looks like Ruby's from RWBY) and dark green eyes. She has a scar that resides just under her left eye. Her wings are white with golden highlights, and they each span 5 feet. When not in her Uranus Gear, she can usually be seen in a sleeveless hoodie and jeans, an outfit that annoys the other Council members, as most of them believe that Astraea must always look "presentable" because of her position on the Council.

Arsenal: Divine Avenger, Grey Owlite Shield, Uranus Set from the first RTC (being Ikaros' predecessor as Uranus Queen, it's only logical for her to have the appropriate gear), and the Divine Bow, Artemis.

Abilities: Astraea can fly at superhuman speeds. In fact, she was once clocked at nearly Mach 5, although she is like a cheetah: she cannot sustain such high speeds for extended periods of time. In addition, she is very strong and once subdued a Skolver with her bare fists. She can also go into her Uranus Queen form at times, during which she can utilize Artemis' full power and fire beams of holy energy from her wings. However, her weakness is her undying loyalty to her comrades and hot headed personality.

Personality: unlike her shy daughter Ikaros, Astraea is bold and proud. She is fearless and will not hesitate to do what she thinks should be done. Like her daughter, she has a very strong sense of right and wrong and cannot stand the sight of injustice being done. She is a loyal friend and has a talent for blaming herself when something goes wrong. She wears her heart on her sleeve and feels a need to protect her friends with her last breath. She is hot headed and a tomboy, and enjoys soccer along with baseball. Once, she challenged Feron, a seasoned soccer veteran, to a match. She lost, obviously. Fun fact; she hates swimming because of the fact that boys will ogle at her in her bathing suit. Lets just say that Astraea's chest is rather... Enviable in size. In addition, almost every time the Council calls a meeting, she tends to act like a rebellious young woman (which she is) and will not show up; she has no interest in boring meetings when she could be "Picking a fight with someone". As one can see, she has a passion for the heat of battle and will pick a fight with anyone who annoys her. She has a very crude sense of humor but is deadly serious when she needs to be. She doesn't think she is better than anyone else just because of her position and is a fair, just leader (when she's not busy sparring with the other Valkyries). She also seems to make a habit out of brushing Sir Snarble's coat every day, but the beast doesn't mind.

Biography: born and raised in the heavenly kingdom of Valhalla, Astraea was brought up to be a warrior. Her parents were what one would call serfs among the other Angels, so they hoped that by joining the Heavenly Legion, (in other words, the Valhallan Armed Forces) she would be able to support the family. At the age of 13, Asteraea joined the Legion. She quickly rose through the ranks, and on her 16th birthday, was revealed to be the Uranus Queen. Without her approval, she was immediately appointed to the White Council. From there, she met Kirito, (might as well make an app for him too, since he's my character) another Angel who was on the Council and quickly befriended him. From there, this role play begins.

@Topozariane: Winter was lost after the knights crash-landed on Cradle. In this RP, Cradle doesn't even exist yet. The Swarm does not exist in its current form.

@Archemiday-Thebard: Double-check your character's gender. xD Also, both the Spiral Knights and their enemies (the Triumvirate) are considered "Morai" because they all live in the nation "Moras." Hence, listing "Morai" as a faction is not specific enough. I think I know what you mean though, and your application is accepted, but I recommend making the corrections anyway just for clarity. ;)

@Dreathuxy: App accepted! I was half-expecting Seatus to claim Sir Snarble, but he snoozed and lost. Ever since Seatus's portrayal of his character in the original RtC, I've always perceived Snarbolaxes as being very powerful beings. Thus, if you don't mind, I would like to modify your application a little:
*Abilities: invincibility except while stunned, teleport burrowing, spike burrowing, spike burst, vicious tracking bite, minor shapeshifting

So after what Top said, I guess I can't be accepted, right? Unless my character is a total nobody? It seems like Top completely ignored my latest post in the Initiate Protocol 13 Thread.

I was going to apply with one of Nathaniel's ancestors, which would give more detail about how Nathaniel was born with a 'neutral' soul, but seeing as to how Top completely 'denied me' in front of everyone, I guess I really can't apply, right? :P

If you're wondering about After Cradle, I wasn't the only one who became inactive after Quexi somehow talked to Raechal in some weird realm and said that he was the only protection against the swarm.

If you're wondering about Initiate Protocol 13, I felt your addition to the story with Top and Winter being reunited was more of an ending(a really heartfelt one, which was awesome), but didn't fit into the story at that time. That's why I got writer's block. It also removed an important story element from the story: Top not liking Nathan because of his resemblance to Nathaniel. But they didn't have a chance to communicate or go on adventures with each other.

And just because of these things, Top is already 'banning' me from joining any RPs, and saying I left them to die. I guess that means I'm not welcome here because of some bad story elements entering the two RPs I've previously joined. :P Nice idea for an RP, though. :) If I could join, I would.

When I say 'I guess I really can't apply, right? :P' I am indirectly asking Thinslayer whether he is following Topoyozariane's idea that I should not be accepted into this RP.

When I say 'If I could join, I would', I am treating Topoyozariane's idea as the most prominent one, as Thinslayer will probably follow Topoyozariane's idea.

Therefore, because your bolded texts have no relation whatsoever to me being sulky or trying to get pity from others, your argument is invalid.

@Ultimaknightz: Your explanation for your absence appears reasonable. You are free to join.

Regarding "pity," it is not possible for anyone to point out "one sentence that implies you are inducing pity" because it is determined by the tone of the entire post, not just one sentence. Individual sentences often seem mundane, but humans are smart enough to pick up undertones that are only obvious in the greater context. Try this example:

"Okay, do what you want. You win. I can't fight this kind of battle. There's nothing I can do about it."

I challenge you to pick out one sentence that sounds depressed. The first one sounds like giving up. The second is a simple statement of fact. The third acknowledges the limits of one's abilities. The fourth one is a type of prediction. None of them are "depressed" sentences. But taken together, they sound like someone who has become depressed by defeat.

Also, as I recall, I never said my argument sounded depressed. In fact, Seatus was the one who accused me of being sulky and trying to induce pity. I only said that it was an argument of mine that was without anger and hate expressed towards Topoyozariane. So I guess it would be easy to get mixed up between arguments. :P

So firstly, as I did not have an 'idea' in my argument, your argument is already proven to be quite invalid, as you simply ASSUME I made an idea. Wrong.

Secondly, even if I did have an idea, how would my statements there show that my idea is lesser and that I need help? Perhaps it would cause YOU to take pity, but not others for all I know.

And just because it induces pity into you doesn't mean it will induce pity into others.

When I try to reach for a compromise, you pull it out of my hands. So why don't we just get over with this argument because it no longer holds any value in this RP discussion thread. In fact, I wouldn't even call it an argument. So let's just get along swell! :D

I wasn't saying that you sounded depressed, either. It was an example, intended to demonstrate the idea that the entire context, not just any individual sentence, judges how we react to written ideas. And yes, you were writing about an idea, namely "that you should be allowed into the RP." If it helps, the term "idea" is almost synonymous with "concept."

You and I (and my mom, too) both seem to struggle with controlling how our thoughts are conveyed to others. It's not Seatus's fault for thinking that your post was a pity party; it's your fault. If you intended it to come across differently, it should have been worded differently. Of course, since communication is a two-way street, it's very difficult (if not unfair) to try to control how others respond to you, but you can't just sit back and expect them to read your mind, either. Communication is an art, which you (and I too) aren't particularly good at.

Also, refrain from generalizing about people's faults, like in your earlier comment "When I try to reach for a compromise, you pull it out of my hands." It puts them on the defensive, and sabotages attempts at reconciliation (which you tried to do in the next sentence). If you must do so, try to word it so that it comes off as merely your own opinion, and not fact.

Feel free to disagree with me! Debates are awesome for ironing out differences and poking holes in unsubstantiated claims. :P

Of course, let's not get too carried away with it, lest it detract from the RP. :3

Well, first you have to know what 'Return to Cradle' is. It's a really old RP that has lasted for an extremely long time, in case you were wondering. Anyhow, I don't know many details about that RP, as I was not in it. :P

Right after you 'correct' my argument. Therefore, that 'thesis' of your argument is invalid.

I wasn't writing about an idea. And even if I was, it wouldn't be "that I should be accepted into the RP." Forsooth, it would be that "Top is bias against me." That is far more appropriate. If you look through my argument again, thou would quench thy thirst for flaws.

Technically, it's Seatus's fault for thinking that my post was a 'pity party' because it was his opinion of my argument, not mine. So as it was HE who thought that my post was a 'pity party', it was HIS fault for thinking that my post was a 'pity party'.

Do you know what you do about people's flaws in their arguments? Exploit them. And anyhow, Seatus did still continue arguing even after I offered an end to the argument. I felt it was only natural to state what he did.

Sure thing. Let me make a sample roleplay for you, with Player A and Player B:

Roleplay AB Plot:
The apple died. You have to stop it.

Player B's 'roleplay' post:
I rested on a tree.

Player A's 'roleplay' post:
I ran to where my heart told me to go. Then I saw someone on a tree. I called to him.

Player B's 'roleplay' post:
I heard someone calling to me. I fell off the tree.

It's like that, except you have to make paragraphs instead of sentences(or sentences inside paragraphs, if you will). Do you get it? It also goes on until the end of the roleplay(unless the roleplay somehow dies).

*sigh* You're not getting it - the entire post was referring to a fake example. I wrote a fake example "depressed" series of sentences. I asked you to play my game of picking out "depressed" sentences from my fake example. I then explained what I was trying to teach you from the fake example.

I even told you outright that it was an example. Go back and look.

The Crystalizer malfunctioned again, and technicians rushed to the device to inspect it. The Valkyrie commander, Gunnr, tapped her foot impatiently. Takiza would make good on his blackmail threat if she failed to deliver the machine on time, and goodness knows how her Majesty Astraea would react if she found out about her collaboration with the Morai. "Stop rushing, you fools! Every malfunction wastes precious time. It's better to spend the extra time to have it done right than to take shortcuts and waste time fixing malfunctions," she bellowed. Naturally, the technicians grew irritated at being berated for something they were already kicking themselves over, but they knew better than to express their feelings.

Description: A heavenly piece of armor handed down from one Uranus Queen to the next.

Artemis: it's the second one from the left
Stats: 12 bars elemental damage, very slight chance to cause purge status effect (similar to burn)
Description: The most powerful weapon known to all Valkyries, this divine bow makes quick work out of demonic enemies.
