I have a HUGE list of things that OOO should add, remove, buff, nerf, change to Spiral Knights to make it more interesting. The purpose of this forum topic is to discuss what you want to be added, what you want to be removed, and so on. If you have any ideas or feedback, it'll be greatly appreciated! (GM's, please note this is a discussion thread, not simply for suggestions. I want people to discuss how to make your game better)

List of things that should be added to Spiral Knights

3 types of updates:
Quick Fixes - requires little to no effort, usually only requires a small amount of editing
Small Projects - More time consuming, but shouldn’t take much time
Big Projects - Usually starting from scratch, may be more difficult and more time consuming

Quick Fixes:

    Guardian Shield Buff by 30% (or whatever is enough to survive 1 GF/DA combo) and buff healing to 1hp/sec
    Missions can only be played in NORMAL DIFFICULTY
    Brandish charge nerf (5* 3 explosions, 4* 2 explosions, 3* and 2* 1 explosion)
    Revert DA charge (nobody cares about FSC wheels)
    Polaris shock rate and slight damage nerf
    Iron slug damage buff
    Don’t take away health revives
    UI option
    Mad bomber buff (ex. Damage high on both pieces, make negative resistances low instead of med)
    Barbarous thorn blade “red trail” in low quality
    Reduce graphical effect of Vanaduke’s Ceiling fall (cuts my FPS in half)
    Remove hall of heroes (detrimental to recipe selling)
    Slight damage buff on Wild Hunting Blade
    Increase poison chance for Dread Venom Striker
    Lockdown Loadout Glitch
    Unable to BIND a certain Star weapon until mission (instead of unable to equip in general)
    Delay LD spectator mode by 3 minutes
    Sticky toggle for AT (instead of holding it) as an OPTION
    Shield Bash for guardian (they have the CHOICE of using it or not, don’t say that it’s “useless”)
    Auction house “marking” to keep track of items
    Teleport knights that have been afk for more than 1 minute to the party button (much like a dced party member)
    Increase Friends List limit
    Make GH open toggle permanent (not change when I log off)
    Make NPC's more interactive with the players
    Add searching for UV’s on the AH

Small Projects:

    new BN and LD maps
    Bring back RSS old version (keep the new shard bombs but buff them a tiny bit)
    Un-nerf monsters for “Hard” and “Elite” difficulties (tracking, group greaver spawns, etc..)
    Remove the timer for bombs in LD for enemies (keep the outlines)
    OPTIMIZE. THE. GAME.
    5 star Win Million
    More Gremlin story missions :D
    More weapons
    LD 1v1 map [I'll be drawing the sketch soon] (only for custom games)
    Ignore chat types including: Guild chat, Officer chat, Regular chat, etc.. NOT PRIVATE MESSAGES (restarts every time you log off)
    More shields

Big Projects:

    Custom LD and BN lobbies - 200cr entry fee, NO KROGMO COINS, NO RANK POINTS, toggle AT, UV’s and trinkets, map choosing, 1v1 to 6v6, “kick from lobby” ability
    Core content - For example, the surface of the core. Surface of the core has many difficult monsters, is stuck on “Elite mode”, and is only accessible through the core. Crown and Heat drops should be buffed
    [removed lab suggestion]
    “Per weapon type” invincibility frames ⇒ Guns won’t stop swords from doing damage, haze bombs won’t make Guardian Shields immune to damage, etc... However, people cannot get 1 shotted with blitz (because blitz is a gun, and there are still gun invincibility frames)
    Surface of Cradle - You can take the elevator above Haven to explore the surface of cradle. Monsters there are weak (tier 1) and constantly spawn. “Free Roam” map style, just like Haven (except with monsters and awesome maps).
    Lockdown Training room in Guild Training Hall (or a specialised LD only training hall). Includes all shield types, “free for all” playing.
    Monster Training room - A training room where you can choose which monsters you want to spawn, the amount, and the tier. They obviously do not drop anything. Includes Bosses, but not shadow lair bosses.

SUPER DUPER IMPORTANT UPDATES:

    NERF HUNTR - GIVE HIM CTR VERY LOW BOMBS
    NERF FELLER - LOWER HIS “RAGE INCITE” ABILITY TO LEVEL 2
    SWAG INCREASE UV’S - MAKES YOUR KNIGHT WALK WITH MAJOR SWAGGALICIOUSNESS

When you say that there should be a delay of spectator mode of 3 minutes, games as they are now, are only 6-7 minutes long so I think 15-30 seconds delay is more reasonable. Since I'm guessing that you're referring to League because there is a 3 minute delay when you're spectating.

I do agree most of your list, especially the one with custom LD lobbies and LD Training Hall. (Though "Free-For-All" mode sounds very hectic.)

I think adding an option to search for a certain UV type on the Auction House would be pretty cool. Which could definitely help finding what you need (UV wise) instead of looking through the 13 pages of Wolver items with Variants.

I agree to most of them although many have been ultimately rejected already. "Too linear" and many other things.

And will the swag VH UV allow you to, like, booty bump zombies or something?

Oh hay, this thread again.
I would love to see more player/npc interaction to make it feel more real. For instance, if a player in full azura walks by a stranger maybe have them salute as the player is meant to repersent (or at least the armor) the best of the Knights.
Maybe also have the hall of heros shop keepers salute you or do the /thanks thing when you buy something form them.
Make gremlins in ember light in some way respond to players, weather it be throwing a bit of rubble at them or turning to face them to look away.

MAKE IT FEEL LIKE I AM REALLY AROUND THINGS THAT ARE ALIVE.

Good, bad, and ugly suggestions. I like the list overall:

Guardian increase by 30%: With healing and ally coverage, it is strong enough
Brandish charge nerf: Buff was an idiotic idea in the first place, agreed with this
DA revert: Make FSC lamer than lame? Nah
Polaris: shock rate is fine, just needs a damage nerf (90% current dmg)
Iron slug buff: Yes
Health revs: Neutral. Good for heat, bad for noob parties
UI option: Agree
Mad Bomber Buff: Yes. Right now, you are an F'IN MORON if you use get mad bomber over chaos
Vana ceiling? Could be better i guess
HoH removal? Once again, moronic idea (like AA), but too late to remove
WHB buff: Yes
Sticky AA toggle: Nah
Shield bash: Guardian could use this move, agreed
AH marking: Meh, so so
Teleport knights: Definitely

LD and BN maps: Always nice
5* winmillion: Good idea. Never happening.
More weaps: Mmhmm
Ignore chat: That would be nice
LD 1v1: YES
Custom Lobbies: Yup
Per weapon invincibility framez: Uh, no. All you need is striker, FF asi vh, and a Sentenza asi vh. Switching woukd be ridiculously fast, OP.

Swag UVs......AGREE

Fixes:
- Asian/Pacific server? No? :c
- Let us NPC the useless mats in the Guild Treasuries.
- Fix Antigua line hits not registering at point blank.

Moar interesting:
- New PvP games. :> Tower Defense mode?
- 2v2 GLD.
- Spontaneous events. Eg. Sudden monster invasion in Haven!
- More towns, places to expore. Not ones like Moorcroft and Emberlight, but more like Haven with unique NPC's that we don't already have.

Since most the ideas here are moderately good, I'm just going to reply to the ones I disagree with.

Revert DA charge (nobody cares about FSC wheels)

Shooting DA charges through walls, impassable gates, and various other obstacles is dumb and broken. No thanks.

Iron slug damage buff

I'd rather be patient and wait for whatever buff Nick has in store for it.

Mad bomber buff (ex. Damage high on both pieces, make negative resistances low instead of med)

No. Doing this would make Bombastic obselete. Cut to the source. If a loose nail causes snags, hammer it in.

Slight damage buff on Wild Hunting Blade

Both WHB and DVS need a damage buff.

Make GH open toggle permanent (not change when I log off)

No. This is to prevent squatters. If they want to hang in a fancy guild hall, they should get their own.

Bring back RSS old version (keep the new shard bombs but buff them a tiny bit)

If you're not going to suggest a fix for how broken they are, then your point is moot. And current shard bombs don't need a damage buff. They need invincitinks removed.

Un-nerf monsters for “Hard” and “Elite” difficulties (tracking, group greaver spawns, etc..)

This is already happening. You should know that.

More weapons

Congratulations on originality. Anyway, I disagree, we have plenty weapons already. We need more shield choices.

Just a tiny bit of nitpicking. I think the negative resistances are high.
(Oh and, does that mean you'd still want them to be low, or would you have it changed to medium?)

i7 quad core 2.2 turbo to 3.2
8G ram
Nvidia 2G discreet

More than enough to run the game. I run MINECRAFT with higher frames and less frequent drops. Don't tell me 1000 creeper explosions is less graphically demanding than 2 polarises.

Teleporting knights allows being to AFK and get Cr with no worry, esp people with the elevator pass, join a lobby, go down, afk til kicked, rinse and repeat, I like the add but I would add this to it *TELEPORTED KNIGHT RECEIVE NO CROWNS OR MATERIALS FOR THE LENGTH OF TIME THEY HAVE AFK'd* and allow a vote on the character to initiate the AFK timer earlier, when an action is taken the timer stops, so people can't harrass people with it, but the AFK runners would have to sit at their computer pressing keys anyway, so it'd be more obvious if they are AFK running and for the Party Leader to kick, and THEN on top of that alow the PL to be kicked by vote aswell

Laptops draw power from certain sections of the system to fuel others in times of need. 1000 creeper explosions is simply RAM re-arrangement and a few polygon redraws. RAM is often built in... oh right, we're not in the 20th century anymore... RAM is always built into graphics cards, which means there is no bottleneck.

However when you're playing on Spiral Knights, a game where objects with both location and vector (direction and duration) are being sent through the network, (along with many other variables, Spiral Knights needs a pretty wide bandwidth clearance to operate at maximum potential all the time) that's kind of taxing on your laptop's power, and draws it away from other things, like your graphics card. You lose power on your graphics card, you lose power on your graphics. Simple as that. Even if you're on the charger, a transformer just can't compare to a desktop's power supply unit.

I haven't played much RuneScape since the combat update, but have a go at that and tell me if you get any framedrops. Even if you don't it's probably not a very good indication because although Runescape is an online game, the reclienting system is very well made, (something that Spiral Knights DOES need to improve on) and resource loading takes jack all because it's not exactly "amazing" graphics) so lag is nowhere near as obvious (You used to get a really horrid framerate whenever you rotated the camera: you don't get that in Spiral Knights when you zoom in or out)

So, word of advice, if you want to get serious about gaming, get a desktop. Either that or don't complain about bad quality gaming. My desktop isn't as powerful as your laptop and I don't get any visual lag whatsoever in the game.

How come I can play a 3D space shooter PvP game with 15 other people in huge maps with jetpacks and pretty great graphics, yet this game I play on lowest settings and still lag. Is there any reason besides the space PvP game (freefall tournament) using C++ (and a few others) as its base language and SK using java?

HoH killed a large portion of the recipe market; what's the point of getting basil recipes and selling them, if people can now buy them from HoH?

Seriously? Bash is barely damaging (around 70 damage in PvE, if in 1 pip 40 hp, that's 1.5 pips of normal? damage), easily telegraphed and not controllable at all, so you can't curve yourself into skolver's face. 3 seconds stun I doubt will make any difference to skolvers, who can use boost dash, and recon and guardians are slow anyways

@Hexzyle my laptop can run high settings of wow at a solid 60 fps. Also it has a shared memory system that used the main ram (DDR3 sticks installed, should mention the Xbox one has a similar arrangement save for the 32 mb cache) in a unified fashion. Also I can tf2 on almost maxed out settings. Sk starts to drop in fps when CPU load hits 100% which it always does. In fact because I have a multi core, I can run alts with barely any fps drop on the same machine as sk is single threaded mostly. Should mention it's an older MacBook Pro.

I like the HoH. It's a reliable way of getting the gear I need without going bankrupt. The system proposed by the OP would drive prices through the roof, and would benefit rich players at the expense of poorer ones (unless you believe that T2 players will be diving down to depth 18 or so in 1* gear to get the recipes they need, rather than being forced to buy from richer and better equipped players). And there is still a point in selling basil recipes, as many of then are exclusive to him.
-1 to HoH suggestion, +1 to the rest.

No, the only recipes that are Basil exclusive are boss recipes and the graviton line. Also, the recipe market BEFORE HoH was very balanced. It wasn't like people were moving prices up a good 10k. OOO said they wanted a free market controlled by the players, the HoH ruined that completely.

@Gzilla: getting rid of the HoH will still drive prices up, and given the cost of those recipes for low level players under the current system, making gear harder to obtain will only make it worse. Plus, removing the HoH will also reduce the volume of recipes available, and will also eliminate a lot of the diversity afforded by the HoH (as players can get anything from the hall, but will be limited in choice when buying from the AH).

And don't whine about basil only having boss recipes. Those items are some of the most commonly used endgame items. You will never run out of DA, GF, polaris, and peacemaker buyers. Why do you want more? The only other recipes that you'd be able to profitable sell would be needles, wolves coats, and maybe 4 other items. Remarking the entire SK economy to give recipe sellers 6 more products sounds like such a great idea.

@Klipik-forum: I didn't know the exact depth that basil sells what recipes at. Given that he might only have ONE 4* recipe at depth 13, I think my original point still stands.

At least recipes gave the clockworks some use. Now with missions and the HoH the clockworks are obsolete. Also, I'm pretty sure polaris is the only real endgame recipe people buy. Whenever I go on random runs, I'll always see them. But with the DA? Hardly. Same with the peacemaker. The brandish line really did away with the DA since it was really only used for it's charge. And with the peacemaker? With OOO changing it to pure elemental a while back, people stopped going to it for FSC. The half piercing was for Vana, and now that it's gone people don't use it. Blitz is the most popular gun for FSC by far. I see some Fausts from time to time, but still not as common as they used to be.

Yeah that can be pretty hard. If you're a professional programmer you'll probably do so mostly as habit. If you're working with Java it doesn't matter because you can't do memory management and such on your own regardless.

Bottom like, Java sucks.

But since this is a suggestion thread I have one for you: quit the game if it's so hard for you to bear those points you listed. You're one of those players that will never be satisfied either way, so why stay?

Instead of removing the HoH completely, how about putting only one line for each piece of gear. For instance, Echo could sell the Skolver Set and not the Vog Cub set.

@Onekone

If the guardian class is buffed by 30% more (OP wanted to buff guardian shield to 30%) along with shield bash, that would start to look like guardian is OP. Unless of course, when shield bash is used in the guardian class, the shield bar would drain to 50%. Not sure if OP will mention that.

listen to me i'm very important ('-' )

please don't bombard me with negative comments saying "this has already been said before stfu", i will ignore those ♡

OOO needs to add a 4 star version of swiftstrike buckler to the game. just a little more health and normal defense is all i'm asking. the design should be the 3 star version, with a bigger swirly thing on it and make it prismatic (*o* ). they should also implement a balancing system for lockdown; this way there won't be a team filled with nobs vs a team of all pros. they could do this by making portfolios for each player; recording each players highest damage, most caps, and most defends. they could also give you exp for doing well in matches and then move you up in leagues. (<-- please give suggestions on this)

my input on the ideas above:

~ the whole striker line needs buff imo
~ i think they need to nerf a ton of stuff but won't even get started on that
~ more events! they actually make me want to do PvE
~ tracking certain uvs would be great, and to make it even better, certain uvs on certain weapons and armors.
~ 1v1/ free-for-all/ custom matches in lockdown would be the greatest thing ever. i have some ideas { v }

starting with the 1v1, give each player triple the health (for longer lasting fights), no health pads (so the matches aren't forever), and give each player a set number of lives (3 is always a good number). for the free-for-all it could be along the same lines with he extra health for longer lasting battles but i do say there should be some objective in these matches. you could bring in the capturing from standard lockdown, but make the cap time shorter to about 3 seconds or something. ALSO, gvg, 1v1, free-for-alls, and custom matches, you and others should be able to bet on players/ teams. make everything more interesting, and safer than saying "if i win you owe me 10k and if i lose i'll give you 10k" [these players cannot be trusted ('-' ) ]

i agree with what @redblades said about the custom matches; letting the players choose what weapons and uvs and trinkets everyone or themselves will be able to use. that way, the poor spiral knight players will be able to show their skill on an even playing field. no krogmo coins would have to be provided; it would be just for fun (that's the only reason i play lockdown anyway)

People can just 1 v 1 with an alt, so in theory people could keep raising their LD score just by going up against Also if we got a 4* swiftstrike, it should only provide a medium universal ASI. Swiftstrike is kept at 3* for a reason, the universal ASI is awesome, but it needs to have drawbacks.

i know there are already 1v1s and stuff like that, but for that takes a lot of patience with others standing around watching and joining in on 1v1s that aren't for them and just being disruptive. that's why putting a system in place would be so much easier for those who hold tournaments and such. the whole "league" and "exp" thing isn't the best idea, and there probably would be a boosting problem, but that's their own fault because the system is only there to put players in matches vs opponents who are the same skill level. and with the swiftstrike upgrade, i said nothing about changing the ask. it's fine where it is. maybe they could nerf the 3 star to be asi low/med and then when you craft the 4 star it will become asi high. thoughts on that?

No, a swiftstrike with a higher defense rating but still with universal ASI high? That's a bit too OP. And how is it LD players faults for boosting that someone else is doing? 1 v 1's won't work. At all.

i'm confused now. we must be thinking about two different things with the 1v1 subject. and it's not really that OP at all? lol swiftstrike is only normal defense. nothing fancy added to the 4 star man. and who cares if it's OP, you can only use in PvE not PvP so it wouldn't be hurting you at all? you don't have to purchase it if you don't want. and besides, they probably never will add an upgrade. but i'd like to be able to last at least three steps on spike traps ('-' )

At first, I saw "~ the whole striker line needs buff imo", I thought you wanted to buff striker in LD, but then I saw "line". :P

A 4* swiftstrike buckler isn't necessary since it already has ASI high. Unless you make swiftstrike buckler have ASI low, then the 4* could have ASI med and the 5* version could have ASI high. But it'll probably be useless anyways and that would never happen.

I don't get any visual lag whatsoever either. However, on my old DESKTOP, I could play minecraft with stable >60 with rarely any drops (maybe 100 creepers). However, SK lagged like CRAZY for me (especially the vana "ceiling fall"). After about an hour of playing, I would get constant stutters. Thrillhaus' tweaks helped me alot, but still did not solve the problems. Also, if Thrill, who is no expert at java, can make this game run smoother, the devs can probably do it with ease.

I understand that he's just allocating more memory and basically giving it more horsepower, but it still helps alot. Tuning for this game is needed.

Also, serious about gaming? since when was SK a competitive game? slashing cartoon zombies doesn't seem like a competitive game to me.

If RSS is broken because it "serves the purpose of a gun", then polaris should be changed into a sniper rifle instead of a GRENADE LAUNCHER. Also, nobody uses RSS as a gun. Sure, it shoots 8 bullets at a time. However, my choice of a gun wouldn't be a gun that has to be CHARGED for each shot, and can only be shot in 8 directions.

+1 to the invinciframe removal of shard bombs, but wouldn't it be hard to change the entire mechanics of the game for only 1 weapon? people will want blitz invinciframes removed, as well as drivers, hammer, FF, well... everything.

I use the 3* one in nearly every run. I have completed shadow lairs using the swiftstrike buckler. why do I choose to use it? because it's on par (maybe even above) with the other shields in terms of usefulness. it gives a universal high asi boost, what else can you ask for?

About your 1v1 suggestion, I like it, but I want to give people more freedom. People will have the freedom of whether they want health trinkets, uv's, etc.. and how many lives they want. that's why I put the custom ld lobbies suggestion

@Redblades Looks like we're on the same line here. 107 days played, over 2 years of activity. Your thread is half about removing features and unrealistic nerfs. Either way, rolling back updates made. For all that I care the other suggestions which actually are about adding content are completely unrealistic and for someone who's been here for 2 years you have a terrible grasp of OOO's work here. But let me take it point by point and try to cross-reference with the general philosophy of this game:

"Surface of Cradle - You can take the elevator above Haven to explore the surface of cradle. Monsters there are weak (tier 1) and constantly spawn. “Free Roam” map style, just like Haven (except with monsters and awesome maps)."
-Spiral Knights is actually meant to be one of these online games you don't and can't hardcore grind. Such field of opportunities for botting and infinite payouts is just completely unreal and potentially lethal to the game.

"Lockdown Training room in Guild Training Hall (or a specialised LD only training hall). Includes all shield types, “free for all” playing."
-The first intent in PvP is certainly to bring players out of their well established guild routines; the current Lockdown population is fairly low as of today; I'm not even mentionning Blast Network's; that would just overkill PvP as a whole.

-How does one takes any risk in this game if he gets to train beforehand on any clockworks theme? On a game which you certainly find easy since you're 2 years old here how does this make the content any more interesting? It rather sounds like it would spoil it, a lot.

I should probably also say that a suggestion deserves some rationale if you're gonna want them somehow heard. I don't see any reasons provided for what you've given here. This is barely debate material, bad quality moreover.
Either way back to my original point being if you want the game to be the way it was, this is clearly not gonna happen, thankfully. Last of all making the game better is a lot more complicated than making it better for you. These are not suggestions to make the game better. These are things you want changed about the game without a slight concern for wether this would make the game better for everyone or not. Learn the difference :D

I'd like to see you're reason for going from "several people agree with us" to "we represent the views of a majority of the players". Worknplay makes several good points regarding what SK is about and the likelyhood of OOO rolling back long established updates(which are about on par with the odds of hitting a flying pig with a snowball, in hell). I agree with many of redblade's suggestions regarding weapon and gear balance, but just as many of these ideas seem pointless (hey, let's destabilize the economy for no apparent reason!) or are designed to make SK more like WoW (I have nothing against WoW, but if you want to play a game that has the same signature features as WoW, go play WoW instead of turning this game into a WoW clone. The world is short on originality as is).

i know all of the ideas aren't perfect in any way shape or form, but i was defending the creativity of people like redblades. people like worknplay are the ones who ruin creativity, and like it's been said before, this is the suggestions page, not the "perfect ideas for old school spiral knights players." just let people feel free to think outside the box for once and stop being so condescending towards them lol. it's really bothersome. and i never said anything about world of warcraft? and i don't believe any of my suggestions were related to world of warcraft? and i don't think that my suggestions match the gameplay of world of warcraft? but then again i've only played that game once for like a minute, so how should i know. but i will tell you sir, that my intentions of my suggestions were not in any way to make the game more like another game, specifically world of warcraft. maybe redblades has something against spiral knights and is really trying to undermine the foundation of the game by offering suggestions that would turn the game into world of warcraft? he must be leroy jenkins!

Yes. I'd also like the charge to not be totally useless when backed against the wall. It's that annoying, niggling bug which caused me to stop using it entirely.

Polaris shock rate and slight damage nerf
Worst suggestion for a weapon I've ever heard. If you nerf the gun even further it'd be useless. Had you said "knockback nerf" I'd have agreed.

Iron slug damage buff
All of the Magnus line needs a damage buff, not just the Iron Slug. The one minor advantage of slightly more damage and about four disadvantages (2 shots, stand dead still while firing, slow firing rate and occasionally deals no damage on a direct hit to its target) compared other guns gives little to no incentive to use it.

Mad bomber buff (ex. Damage high on both pieces, make negative resistances low instead of med)
That'd make it too OP, keep neg res on Med.

Reduce graphical effect of Vanaduke’s Ceiling fall (cuts my FPS in half)
Agreed. I call it the Lag Attack.

Remove hall of heroes (detrimental to recipe selling)
The idea behind HoH was to give players a reason to do missions and earn the right to buy recipes at their actual price rather than one costing 10x the amount because a player got greedy. Boss reward recipes aren't available at HoH so go for those.

Slight damage buff on Wild Hunting Blade
Cutters don't need a buff, they need less knockback on the second hit of every strike. It really affects the DPS if they aren't backed against a wall.

In short

You asked what we wanted to see added to the game. That's the point of the entire suggestions forum.

@Sky: If you don't remove it entirely, it would make sense to only have the basic stuff in there. That's the Cobalt, Jelly, Skelly, and Magic armor lines, the rest of the "standard" set, Combuster and nightblade, haze bomb(stun), prismatech, and shadowtech. Maybe flourish.

Actually, I like the idea of getting rid of the HoH entirely and keep the missions giving you the "standard"/cobalt stuff for free. That way you have a reliable and cheap way to get through the game, but if you want special gear you have to go searching.

I agree with all of these and

I agree with all of these and every idea sounds good but the guardian buff.... Guardians are already too powerful have 2 or more and you have a group that is pretty much invincible ( I hit one the other hit me I try to hit that guy but shield blocks me and I die.) Also they tank so much of my damage and with self healing its already too good but the bash for it is fine.
